Hey Alexa, are you still living in your physical work area? How has your employer been with remote work? I'm curious because I want to move outside of Chicago and I'm hoping companies that are lenient on WFH policies would make this transition smoother.
Hello, hello! I have been working remotely since around March when the pandemic was in full force. We are planning to slowly go back to the office as it becomes safer to do so. As of right now I think it's expected that a majority of us will go back to the office but I know working from home in this way has helped many companies reevaluate WFH systems that could be more flexible in the future. I know some tech companies have publicly announced they would be allowing employees to decide. I think Twitter announced this and maybe Facebook? I would double check though before quoting me on anything 😅 Hope that's helpful!
Like always your content is sooo good! Thank you!. I am currently a UI Designer but I want to get a position as a UX designer but most of my project pieces are based on my UI experience. ?? Not sure how to get started with UX more. I would love your feedback :)

Great video Alexa, one question, what do you think of the idea of someone with no real experience using their idea for a simple video game as a case study? The idea I have is not a game based on graphics, but rather its mostly pressing buttons, so it would benefit more from the ux design process than from regular games.
Thanks! Hmm I'm not sure I'm following your question. Are you asking if designing a simple video game would work as a UX Design project for your portfolio?
@@HelloImAlexa Yes, I have an idea for a game, and I think the format of the game would benefit from the ux design process, which isn't the case for most games.
Good question! I think you should make that call for yourself but I could see it working either way. I think when it comes down to it, it's more about the story you are telling. So if you are looking to use your e-commerce website to get a Product Design job, make sure the story you tell about that project emphasizes the product part of the work rather than the marketing. What do you think?
@@HelloImAlexa I like your point about story because e-comm sites are both marketing and product, so it's about the emphasis on one or the other. What aspects of an e-commerce site would you say fall into the product category? For more context, this would be a site redesign for a healthy ice cream brand. I assume the cart, shop page, individual product pages, and checkout experience could be considered product-but what do you think?
@@davidluft Oops! Definitely missed this. Yes show the buying experience would definitely qualify. I would focus on the checkout experience and stay away from the home page or anything that would feel more like marketing of the brand. Hope that helps!
*exactly* the video I've been waiting for, thanks Alexa xx
Yayyy! Absolutely 💙
Ahh this was super helpful! I have a problem with making my projects wayyy too broad in scope, so this is exactly what I needed to hear haha
Yes! Sooo glad to hear. Yes, it's so easy to get caught into the trap of trying to make absolutely everything better through a redesign.
Alexa for the win!🚀🔥
👏👏👏
I never knew Alexa is this gorgeous :) Alexa: I love you, haha
Great video! Thank you! I’m putting portfolio together and these are really helpful.
Yay!! So great to hear :)
It's so helpful and informative
Thank you 😊
Good luck everyone who watching this 💪
Yessss! 🔥
whelp I did two redesigns to start off with... wish I saw this video beforehand.
Well hey! This is just my recommendation. And now you know :)

Oh thank god, I started this vid waiting to hear you say I need to toss out what I’ve been working on, but it looks like I’m on track
LOL, yesss. Keep going 🔥
Should I avoid e-commerce website design projects in my product design portfolio? Even if it's an opportunity to show real-client work?

Is it okay to present a project that is from a UX course? AKA not an actual real project
Yes. It's totally fine to use student work or personal projects for interviews!
new opening sequence??? i love the editing!
Yes!! Thanks so much, glad you like it
Wait, did you work at Curran & Connors?
Negative.
