How Much Weight I Saved By Swapping Fox Transfer With DT Swiss D 232 One Dropper Post...

  • XC bikes get heavier and heavier each year. They come with wider rims, wider tires, dropper posts and it becomes more difficult to get a fully, that weighs 10 kg. Mine got close to it...

      What's the weight of a DT Swiss dropper with same amount of travel as the Fox ? Or better would be Fox with only 60 mm of travel. Let's compare apples to apples. Cheers !

    I just like to say „thank you“. I love your Channel and i took lots of practical Tips from you and your Experience. You are a Perfectionist like no other.
    I am a simple Worker and buying used Bikes because I could not afford new ones or better speaking I love used quality instead if cheap new ones.
    This Year I collected more than 10.000 Kilometers with my three Bikes and do everything on my own. I learned from you to love my Bikes and take care of them. And do this many little steps to let them feel every Day like new ones.
    I am from Germany but my Roots are from Poland (Elblag-Elbing) and I am not so young like you but I love my bikes the same Way. Greeting from Hamburg, Germany

    Yea but it’s not an accurate comparison between a 100+ mm of travel to a 60 mm travel dropper. With that less of a travel, of course it’ll be lighter. If we were to compare 2 distinctively different brands with similar travels. The weight shavings would be negligible.

    Leave the post resting with the end on the clamp and the saddle on the rear wheel> fix cable on the remote> proceed with both hands installing the post and guiding housing. 😉

      I didn't quite get the "saddle on the rear wheel"...

    • @Phlizz
      @Phlizz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cannondany turn the Post 45 degree so the longer side of the saddle rests on top of your rear wheel (or any object nearby like a second stand or board). The lower end rests on the seat clamp with the housing already in. If you pull on the cable it will actually press the housing firm into the cable stop on the post. Fix the cable and you’re done with worst part. I hope this time it made sense 🤔

    First to confess i really like your channel. Ok...now we can go to the point. Let's consider that we talk about XC, right ? For lambda xc rider, it's mostly an accessory to compensate their lack of technique. Let's be honest. For competing racers, it depends. It mainly depends if the course has some difficult down-hill sections (drops), and if it will be competitive to have one. Lighter version of course are good, although i would NEVER recommend a DT Swiss. They are making great wheels, hubs but thats all. Their suspension are not really amazing, and their aftersales is horrible. I heard Poland is the only place where they do the right thing. I remember Fox changed the game a couple of years ago offering an almost maintenance-free product, reliable and with an excellent aftersales. Now it changed. They are not alone anymore. I really doubt that a 60mm will change the game for non pro riders. Other brands offer light seatpost too, and i guess fox will come with one soon or later, same as for the Stepcast fork (maybe a mechanical version vs hydraulic). I actually use a Dropper, and sometimes i remove it because i know the courae will be more or less flat. By swapping your inner 30mm inner rims to 26 or 27mm, you could drop another 100 grams too. This Merida of yours looks really great. Pls continue with great videos

      On my side, I found a KS Lev Ci in very good state as 2nd hand. Not so much heavier, and much more travel (I have the 100mm, and the 125mm is 400grs).

    • @nestserau
      @nestserau 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tip toeing a bike on a descent is never a proper technique, it’s too compromised. Dropping a saddle by 60 mm let’s you grab the saddle with your knees to become one with the bike, and that’s exactly whats needed on a technical section. The less weight you have on your hands, the more precise your steering becomes.

  • @robin1987100

    I like that it can be serviced, you can replace the upper body and the key (to stop it from rotating). I think its a clever idea but i gotta be honest, it does not look good. I'm guessing they use the same upper part for the 27.2mm model and have created this stepped lower tube (?). The seat post clamp, the matte bit, the thin shiny bit and then the bulky bit on top.. it's so messy.

    Saved even more weight by scrapping the front derailleur, chainrings, shifter, and front brake! At 61 let's face it, I'm no longer fast enough to need a front brake on the flat trails around here! Dropper post would be pointless.

    Hi ! Nice video because I was looking for example of installation to see if me was the only one having problems when fixing the wire into the trigger, and putting the drop inside at same time you are getting out the wire from the front... I also had to do it 3 or 4 times... Think dt swiss should improve by screwing that "quick release..."
    Anyway, I wanted to ask if had the same problem than me. Sometimes when I'm riding it dropps alone itself. Have you had this problem? I reduced a little the tension from remote adjust and got better... but then I have also a problem that I see you have. Once you press the remote lever and drop it again, it doesnt goes back to the total starting position...
    Also, I noticed this drop is full range or if not, is not fixing, I mean you have to reduce all the 60mm to get blocked, if you reduce only 40mm for example it doesnt block. Have you got also this situation?
    Thanks friend, hope you can solve some of these doubts !

    • @nestserau
      @nestserau 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s either dropped or not, that’s true. The rest is most likely due to incorrect installation. Dropping on its own means there is too much tension in the cable.

      If it helps, I moved from a 125mm to this DT Swiss 60mm and tbh I find it more than adequate. I do have slightly longer legs than the average 1.82m person but for XC, even technical downhill, it works really well for me.
