  • In this video I try running the Brooks steam car on compressed air. It's the first time there's been any attempt at running this engine in anyway for at least 10 years.
    I wish to again thank Steve Theobald for allowing me to acquire this vehicle.

    These videos are a record of my exploits and experiences during the enjoyment of my hobbies and I hope others find them interesting or inspiring. I have spent my whole adult life making and restoring things, including cars, motorcycles, steam engines and models. If any of these things interest you then all of these things will be appearing on this channel in due course.
    My videos are not intended to be tutorials. They are just my exploits, doing my things, my way on the equipment that I happen to have and using my own assessments of risk.I don't recommend anybody does any of them. Some of the things I do are undoubtedly dangerous. When you do your things, do them your way, using your own assessments of risk and protect yourself accordingly. Hobbies are supposed to be fun, so have fun and stay safe.

    Great to see it fired up on air , definitely be more scary firing it on steam for the 1st time . See you on part 3.

    I grew up around the old model A and model T Old cars are cool .Steam ones must be tough to work on. Good luck and restoreing the old girl

      Thanks Harry. Funnily enough, once I get these cars done, I quite fancy a Model T. They're a bit more affordable and easier to use.

    Could hear her filling up with air. The wheels are going round Tea is allways good. They probably rusted out. How many gears does it have or does it have any at all. So it just has forwards and reverse. Ah I see better to put the one in mate. Cool I like the old water pump. Liked watched twice and shared

    • @workshopgeorge1078
      @workshopgeorge1078  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, single speed so it will go as fast backwards as it does forward. I wouldnt want to go very fast backwards in it though. Thanks for the share Ali and thank you for watching.

    I think you are the chappie I drove down from the Interior to the coast in Canada.

      It wouldn't have been me. The lad that brought the thing from Canada to the UK was Jeff Theobald so it was likely that it was him. Did you happen to know anything about the car or were you just transporting it?

    The Boiler looks like an original Brooks, all welded with oxygen-acetylene, they machined a collar in the bottom tube holes and acetylene welded tube to collar, top of tube is expanded Brooks original tubes are 17/32nds OD. I owned a Brooks for 25 years and rebuilt both boiler and engine, then drove same for over 2000 miles. Is that from the Theobald collection? Richard

      @@workshopgeorge1078 Wow, I figured they must be rare! Must be one of the last steam cars made over there.

      @@CruiserMac Brooks were late to the game, by the time they started production many other steam car companies had already stopped or were very close. For example Stanley, which seems to me Brooks were largely copying (Very similar at least, ceased production in '24 I think, precisely when Brooks started. The writing was on the wall I would have thought.

    Im guessing the steam enters the cylynder via a piston valve same as my steam roller rather than a slide valve?
