Hazel Park or Madison Heights for that price point, Detroit west side, McNichols to 8mile Livernois to Lasher you can find a place that is in the 100k range.

Hi, empty nester and thinking about moving to Detroit. I visited for a week last month to drive around and just look. I didn't leave with any clarity. I'd like to find a relatively safe neighborhood in transition that I can buy a house for 100k, put in a little sweat equity and in 2 years, (market being relatively the same), see some appreciation. I'll go back during Easter break. Any neighborhoods you'd recommend? Thanks

Midtown. I worked in the city for 38 years and midtown is by far the rising star of Detroit. You have WSU, DIA, the DSO, tons of restaurants and stores. You can hop on the train for free and take it from Midtown to I don't know if you can get a a house for 100k or not. You can hop on the train (for free) and take it downtown. I will be honest with you here. Do not think you are living in a safe space just because you love the city. There is crime. Lots of it. Both my kids went to WSU and I ALWAYS told them to stay in at night and not walk the streets.

Ann Arbor’s main issues is the rising land prices leading to gentrification in its next door neighboring city Ypsilanti and the public schools in Ann Arbor are facing a budget shortfall. I will agree though that the green spaces are a major plus and my personal favorite is Bird Hill in the Westside.

Royal Oak is a good blend of traditional vs liberal people.

Madison Wisconsin is another city that may rival Ann Arbor as on of the better college towns in the nation. Slightly larger than AA but is not close to a large metro like Detroit.

Most of what you chose are overpriced and over populated--traffic always----I will take the smaller towns north any day

Northern Michigan is great too. The reason 50% of the population lives in the lower part of Michigan is due to the job markets.

I grew up in Farmington Hills. I’ve been away for a few decades. I spent this past summer in Michigan. I was alarmed by the rampant morbid obesity everywhere. Michigan will be great once again after the trio of authoritarian politicians are gone. The Governor, Secretary of State and Attorney General..
