Twinspark Reviews: 2005 Lexus LS430 - Is a luxury barge a good car for young people?

  • Yes, it's a day late, shush, we were busy. I was at Goodwood and Joe was doing his actual job like a sensible adult. But today, even if it is late, we have this wonderful piece of mid 2000s Japanese engineering, but the question is: is it hard to live with if you're inexperienced behind the wheel? Come find out with us!
    If you have a car you'd willingly let me review, please hit me up on instagram at @MrTwinspark and we can organise it! I promise not to intentionally crash your pride and joy!

    I just got a 2003 ls430. The attention to detail is incredible and it was ahead of it's time. Working on the vehicle isn't too difficult and the cost to own isn't terrible if you're willing to get your hands dirty. I'm now a Lexus fanboy

      NEVER sell it even if you're "Homeless...). I've had an LS for 24 yrs. of joyful ownership. BTW, it's "its" not "it's".

    I love how the LS 430 doesn’t squeak. Even though it is a 2005 model. Very well built!

      Honestly the build quality was fantastic. The Aircon needed regassing and the drivers window was a little temperamental, everything else worked perfectly, and at 190 odd thousand miles, it squeaks and creaks significantly less than some brand new cars I've been in

    One of the best cars ever made. 0-60 was 6.3 seconds on this particular facelift model. Pre-facelift models were 6.7 seconds to 60. Also, I drove a 1998 LS400 model 13 years ago. The most refined car I have ever driven. Considering I have driven previous shapes Range Rovers made from 2014 and equivalent S-Classes of the same time frame. The mileage on the LS400 at the time I drove it? 212,000 miles....and everything worked. No clunks, no rattles, no squeaks!

      I’ve had both ls 400 and ls430, now driving a Lexus is300h FSport, my brother had a ls600h. I will never forget the first time I drove the ls 400, I was absolutely blown away, what refinement what engineering, no German marquee can match them.

    I’ve owned several cars, 2019 Charger Scatpack, 2021 BMW M340i, 2023 Lexus ES300h Luxury and also currently own a 2004 LS430 with 140k miles. In my opinion, nothing compares to this car in terms of ride quality and comfort given that it is a 20+ year old car. I seriously love driving it. Great cars if you can find a well maintained one!

    You can turn the smart key feature off and use the plastic key for starting to save potential battery drain. That's a good idea when you're parked for days such as long term airport parking. Smart key ON also turns some other nice, but also batt draining near- field features such as the outside door courtesy lighting that sense your approach to car, etc. If you like to keep the smart key feature on, you might use a trickle charger to maintain full charge when it sit's more than a few days.

    • @alextwinspark8289
      @alextwinspark8289  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That does make some more sense then. Even the owner couldn't quite tell why the key was so weird

    An incredible car. Took the risk of buying it as my first car and so far I haven't regretted it once.
    Yes, we can complain about the size, fuel consumption and design that objectively not passed the test of time (compared to the analogues of those years). But all the complaints disappears shortly after you get inside & take a ride. Lexus make a brilliant product those days.

    • @michaelmichaelagnew8503
      @michaelmichaelagnew8503 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fuel consumption sounds about right for that year of an engine. Doesn't have all the modern tech that activates and deactivates certain valves to give it better gas mileage. My Acura TL which is a V6 gives 19 miles a gallon in the city and its 3 years newer. Usually people who drove those types of cars had the money to never ever worry about gas prices. My father has a Lexus just like this one same model and year I think. I would take it over my Acura any day and I would take it over the current LS model because the latest model doesn't have a V8 engine.
