I have this model and I am proud of it because i have thought that steelseries isn't a good merch for keyboards but this keyboard made my to love more and more the steelseries company

Thanks for the review, I wanted to see if its worth it to get the apex 5 over the apex 3 (even though I already have a decent keyboard xd)
I’ve had this keyboard for a couple months now and I can’t really recommend it, The keycaps feel cheep as dirt so if you purchase the keyboard I recommend getting a set of different caps. When I went looking for a keyboard I thought I would enjoy a clicky tactile switch however the sound is extremely obnoxious which makes my friends always complain while we are in discord calls, and it is impossible to record or stream because they are so loud, The RGB is pretty dull and the embodiment of the word “lame”. The OLED screen seems like a goldmine but it also doesn’t hit the mark like the RGB. The only good thing about this keyboard is the Multi Media keys those are extremely helpful. Also if you want to build up a collection of grime and miscellaneous stuff, under your keycaps and between the switches is the perfect starter environment. So at the end of the day this could possibly be the worst mainstream brand keyboard available in this price range. This is all my opinion these aren’t facts so don’t completely change your mind on whether or not to buy the board.

The quality of this video is actually so good; not only were the transitions really well done, no details were spared, and there's a great level of excitement that adds a lot to the viewing (rather than the listening) experience!
This is going to be a bit of a strange request, but I'm a huge fan of Steelseries' products. On Aliexpress, there are people selling the Steelseries Sensei Raw "Optical V2", which was apparently a refresh of my favorite Sensei design from back in 2016-ish, but with an optical sensor. There have been no official reviews of it on TH-cam yet (none in English at least) and I was wondering if you'd do a review on it!

does the switch can be replaced or not?
Looking between this and the Romer G switches, a lot of reviewers will talk about the key press and feel but you go a step further and actually strip the thing down to show what’s happening inside, great for the review and helping me decide on the apex.
Not mechanical switches - man that's sad :( though at least they use standart stems but man steelseries really love their non detachable cables. You can feel mushiness of this keyboard from sound :D a4 tech is quite well know company when you travel through poland - their keyboards are spammed everywhere there
Dude it is called membrane ! :D that thin sheet is membrane! It is sucks because it is hard to make n key roll over wth kb like that. You see it first time because you dissambled membrane kb first time - you can see identical one if you dissamble any cheap logitech membrane keyboard

@@TheTechne yeah it is still better than simple rubber dome membrane keyboard, but lack of pcb sucks because device is more dependant on pc and less on his own. Electrocapasitive is praised because they have pcb and very high quality rubber

@Techne, Hi, bugging you again. Thanks to your review, I have had this keyboard for a few months and I generally love it. However, some of the keys started developing a scraping noise when pressed. Sounds like tiny mouse squeaks. The Backspace key is especially pronounced and it is driving me nuts.
I suspect that it is the switch stem rubbing against the switch housing in some crooked way. Could a dab of silicone based lubricants applied to the stem solve this problem? or would I ruin the switch if I do that? Thanks.
you won't ruin the switch, just start with a tiny amount

Not a bad review, this. You saved me $100. For the same price you can get a REAL mechanical keyboard from Glorious, Keychron or Redragon.
With the keyboard how long does it take u to save the colour cause I just bought one and it takes like 1day to save any tips

i bought a crappy 20 dollar amazon keyboard a while back, and now some of the keycaps are faded and i accidentally broke a piece off of the keyboard, so i have been looking for a replacement and this has everything i have been looking for. My son has an Apex 7 keyboard which is very similar to Apex 5, after using it for 3 years the key switch "D" is not working properly (sometimes it works). I have cleaned all the switches but "D" still not working. Do you know how to get to the PCB area to check the soldering and try to fix this problem?

Using the word TEARDOWN in this video is clickbait of the highest order. A quick montage that doesn't even show screw locations (when it's evident they''re hidden under the keys, but which ones?)

Nice Video i love the Apex 5 i get this board few days ago, for the last 1,5 years i used an Roccat Vulcan 121 Aimo and dont miss it the Apex 5 is an awesome change for me
Their previous flagship keyboard the m800 had one of a kind keys, they promised they would last, they keys broke and they would not provide replacements for them... i won't be trusting steelseries with proprietary equipment unless they give a 5 year warranty on it and produce replacement parts. I'm not throwing away a £150 keyboard after 2 years because their keys break all over. Just an honest review
if you still see this, how did you manage to completely disassemble it? One of my keys isn't working 100% and I wanted to check if somehow something got underneath the panels or maybe shifted around. Is it fixed with just the screws or are there 2 special screws among them that I didn't get out?
Got mine yesterday and for what it is, it's great so far. Sounds like a "serious" board, feels good to type. I use it for work - on MacOS. So I switched out the WIN and ALT keys, adjusted those in my keyboards' settings and besides some symbols like []{} being not correctly labeled (Macs are different, you know…), it's all sunshine and rainbows.
Followup: the left ctrl key stopped working after 6 days, so i returned the Apex 5 and got a Apex 7 with real switches. That has been working for 2 minths now

I have the Apex pro with a scroll wheel. I guess you where it's intermittent or a plane. Just doesn't work when you're scrolling. It will go up and then it'll go down and it's just inconsistent so for the most part it doesn't work
Any thoughts as to what could be going on? Or did you look into what type of switch that is?

I loved this keyboard but the keys started getting flaky and not always working after only a couple years. My control key barely works anymore...

Thats what I thought then I realised it would probably get really annoying after a while and because im quite a fast typist i just went for the Apex 7 TKL brown switches

I'm just a casual gamer and mostly play fps games: apex, cod, destiny etc. so what i haven't understood from any reviews is how much different does it perform compared to apex 7 or any other mechanical keyboard for that matter?
@@KapucciMane well we both play the same games (I also am a casual), lol. the main diff between this one and the 7, is this one only comes in blues. I've decided to go with the apex 5, I live in Europe and the prices are quite different over here, the apex 5 is 130€ and apex 7 is 190€ which is pretty big difference.
I'm coming from an ancient razer lycosa (membrane) keyboard rn and i believe the apex 5 will be a huge step up from that :)

I need a new keyboard, my old Razer Blackwidow Ultimate I bought back in 2015 is on its last legs. The lighting is completely busted, and depending on the position of the wire, it won't work at all. Six years for a keyboard is nice, so I have no complaints there. But I do want proper RGB, since my keyboard only had the color green.
The Apex 5 is perfect for my budget / price range, but I don't want to pay that much for what is essentially a membrane keyboard... But the Apex 7 is noticeably more expensive. So I'm kind of torn.

I don’t get it I unscrewed all the screws in my PCB did not come off
The deck flex test are meaningless. I raged and slammed many different keyboards over the years and not one of them broke and I slammed these things HARD. It's funny because I have a ROCCAT Alumic mousepad (3mm of aluminum) and I bent that thing with one exceptionally hard slam. I never made a dent in any membrane keyboard.
I use mechanical keyboards nowadays and they ARE sturdier but unless you're the HULK, it won't make a difference. Mechanical keyboards should be considered for all their other advantages like the actuation point consistency, key wobble, and whole slew of other features

At $100 there is absolutely no excuse for using membrane "switches" (and I use that term loosely). Absolute flop in my opinion. Use actual mechanical switches and you can get away with asking for $100 for a keyboard.
