    AVAILABLE HERE: www.rcgoing.com/flywing-fw450...
    Jason flies the FW450 for the first time...and on a less than ideal day...which was no bad thing because we show how this GPS enabled RC helicopter uses GPS to assist new RC helicopter pilots.
    Out of the box the FW450 is super easy to assemble. Click the boom\tail into the main body\fuselage ensuring the latch clicks, then screw on the blades ensuring they are graphic on top. You will need to remove the flight battery from the nose. This is done by pushing down on the latch and sliding it out on its tray. Leave it attached to the tray and charge it up with the provided charger. Put 4 AA batteries in the transmitter and then you are ready to go.
    Switch on the transmitter (hold down both power buttons). Ensure switches are at STOP and GPS. All other switches should be in the up position. Plug the battery into the flight controller on the helicopter and close the nose hatch. Stand a safe distance back from the heli. Click on the UNLOCK icon on the transmitter for 2 or more seconds until the icon changes. Flick the switch on the transmitter to START and the tail and main rotors should start spinning. Wait until the rotor speed has stabilised and then gently push up on the left stick to take off !
    The transmitter left throttle stick is self centred rather than ratcheted and this takes an experienced pilot like Jason a while to familiarise with. In GPS mode this is ideal for a beginner as you are not directly controlling blade pitch like on a regular RC heli but just the up an down movement of the heli. We will explore return to home, inverted flight and the circle and figure eight flying patterns in the next video.
    In 3D mode the aerobatic potential of this heli is unleashed. In GPS mode you cannot pitch or roll to inverted. In 3D mode you can pitch and roll over so you need to be familiar with inverted flight and the stick movements needed to maintain it.
    Jason used GPS mode for landing and flicked the switch to STOP to spin down the blades.
    IMPORTANT NOTE: Prior to flight we switched off 'low battery protection' because of the cold weather. Voltage detection does not work well on cold days and this heli will go into automatic return to home if it detects low voltage. For this heli it would climb to 10 metres as part of the return to home process. If you do this please ensure you time your flight to minimise chances of damaging the flight battery by taking cell voltages below 3.7 volts.

    I have the FW200 GPS bird, an in the last 2 years of consistent flying her, I've only ever bent the tail boom which was cheap to replace. What I absolutely LOVE an wish more helis had, is the sacrificial nut on the motor an shaft. I've saved I don't know how much money just replacing that ONE item, rather than the whole head assembly. Best of all, I have an .stl file that let's me 3d print my own!

    Looked crazy on film with the blades motionless. Looked like it was hanging from a string. Pretty cool features.

    Enjoy the videos. To you need to program the compass calibration using a computer like the version 2.5 requires before you fly?

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope. No calibration. We just flew it.

    Thanks for the video.
    I love RC Helis, but am useless at flying them. I know the traditionist will probably hate these out of the box solutions, but for people like me, they are great.
    The drop-down canopy to access the battery is great. It used to take me ages to apply the canopy after connecting the battery.
    Do you think we will see this technology being applied to conventional RC Helis?
    I'd love a SAB Goblin that I could fly out of the box.

    Hi, thank you for providing link of where to buy and informative video. Can I add navigation lights and plug them into one of the ports. Will it cause any issues? I don't want to mess up the GPS function, thank you.

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t see why not. Easy to draw power from the flight controller or just direct from the power lead. It wouldn't cause interference. Magnets are the only thing that would do that in my experience

    Heli can do inverted flight in GPS mode and can do figure of eight in an inverted mode.

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, inverted in GPS mode but only after software change to allow it. Did not know it would do figure 8 inverted. Will try that ! Thanks

    Question please if anyone knows? I have a brand new 450L V3 not flown yet, I'm not interested in 'auto invert' type things, and the manual says to install tail, blades etc. then get ready to fly, wait until GPS is locked, then fly. It's says nothing about doing a 'compass calibration' before flying it in the manual. Then the last 2 pages, says about unlocking or turning on the 'auto invert' function, and doing a 'compass calibration' It's not clear, but seems to me we don't need to calibrate the compass unless we want to use advances settings like auto invert. Why does the manual tell to set it up & fly, then only mention compass calibration at the end in the auto invert enable section? When new, can we just fly it in GPS & free fly mode without doing a compass calibration? I can do a compass calibration, but reading the manual, it doesn't seem I need to unless I wanted to later unlock the advanced features. Other than the manual, I can't find any info on this, thanks to anyone that can help. In another video, it's different, shows the green light on, then the guy holding the heli turns 360* and if the light stays green, the compass is calibrated, and then OK to fly. That's a lot more simple than downloading software & hooking up to computer.

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No compass calibration needed. I only did it later after uploading the firmware on the flight controller. Just charge yours up and go fly it.

      Did you have to calibrate at the field?
      How often do you calibrate the GPS?.

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not done it. This was first flight out of the box. My understanding from the manual was that it was not a mandatory step and only needed if experiencing problem. We tried Return to Home in 2nd video and only missed the take off point for 1 metre if that so I'm not inclined to do any calibration.
