As an Australian myself I think Nicole is a class act and one our best exports.

As far as I know, she was born in Hawaii, USA. She has spent a lot of time in Australia but she is not Australian by birth.
I love this interview. It's so honest and very funny. They are both very witty and fun to watch here.

I remember watching this interview on TV as a kid when I was 8 years old and it was just one month before 9/11 happened when the world still felt somewhat "normal".
It was always abundantly clear that she was too good for him. I don't think he ever experienced the same connection with another woman.

@@tubby6339 Amy Sedaris, Mary Tyler Moore, Terri Garr, Bonnie Hunt, Cher, Connie Chung were all great. But Nicole's shyness and funny awkwardness to Dave's intimidating questions makes it all the more hilarious.
Their rapport was awesome.

I come back to this even however many years it's been. When she first burst onto the Hollywood scene in Days of Thunder (at least that was the first film I saw her in,) I thought she was just Mrs. Tom Cruise, riding his coattails. But after I watched her in The Others, I realized how much of an acting talent she really was! After seeing her in this interview then I realized that she was as genuine as she is talented. I loved the crack about wearing heels again because I have been in relationships where I've had to play a silent partner, and it's such a liberating feeling when one finds the strength to move on.

He was a really obnoxious interviewer, the badgering intrusive questions then yelling over her answers. Glad she gave it back to him "how was your divorce?"

Call me crazy, but she reminds me Arthur Fleck in his Joker attire in that interview. As if she is going to shoot Letterman any moment. She is so tense here, probably the most awkward interview in her life. She was after the divorce from Tom and had not healed completely, but wanted to act cool.

At 34 years old, she was in her physical prime and exuded a lively energy. While her speech may have had a hint of a drink, it was clear that she was enjoying herself and adding to the atmosphere of the occasion. She was a joy to watch.

She did. She was making a cute dig about her ex husband Tom Cruise being so much shorter and wore lifts in his shoes. She let him shine. Once she was out on her own is when she blossomed and really showed her skills. Adorable personality

Dave had a knack for putting a spotlight on the big pink elephant in the room, and sometimes it was a kind gesture, like I think this one was, and sometimes, he was being a stinker.
If you ever saw the photo of her leaving her lawyer's office after the divorce, her initial reaction to his question makes even more sense.
