    Easily the best how to skate videos on TH-cam for me. I'm 49 n getting back into skating since I was 19. These explain the "how to" and more important the "don't do". They explain how it's gonna feel and how to compensate to get it right. Everyday TH-cam should give people one or two gold thumbs up to give videos that you think really deserve it. It would mean more than the endless thumbs up available. These videos would get a gold thumbs up everyday.

      Thats right Mike. Only a real thumb up when meaning it !!!
      I myself too stopped from age 19-20. Now for a year been I started up Skateboarding into sessions of on lesson for adults in Utrecht- Netherlands what rally helps to not get overexited or broke to fast.... Really wanna try a few lessons on the one and only wooden vert ramp in Indoor skatepark in Den Bosch (Netherlands)

    I've been wanting to learn these basic vert skills since I was a teenager in the mid-80's, but never got the opportunity to do so. Now I'm starting to learn at my local skate park, and it's going well. Thank you for this helpful video, I will be practicing the grabs!

    I’m 44 and loving the skateboarding experience. We’ve got all kinds of setups . Park , street ,cruiser using various trucks and wheels combos . Soft , hard , krux, ace, Indy , thunders , baker , flight deck , Re-issues and thank you and welcome boards . My 37 year old wife and 9 and 13 year old sons love the skateshop “ the Boneyard “ in Opelika Al . ThNk you for your instructions and God speed all you fathers making an attempt to connect with your children through skateboarding! Have a smashing day !

    John seeing your posts are great, what with your videos and my daughter and her boyfriend skating regularly you've helped me get back out and start riding again at 58yrs. My confidence is shot to pieces but I am really feeling buzzed by being back on my boards. Trying to progress slowly it is frustrating not being able to fly around as a younger man as my body reminds me that time is gone and to just enjoy rolling, watching your videos gives me hope some of the shadows of the past may catch up to me yet.

I’m itching to do some vert, too, or in fact ANY ramp… Our local park is a nice concrete one, but while it does have opposing 3-5’ quarters like 30 meters apart, it doesn’t have a half pipe or pool, so pumping back and forth that is a bit of a task :)

    You are amazing. Your progression is incredible.
    I've just turned 50 and have always skated but no where near enough in the last 15 years. Every time I skate I find my body just isn't flexible enough anymore and my bottle has deserted me. I was doing full runs with head high airs and fast lip tricks when I was 18 when I had a vert ramp a five minute skate from my house in Bracknell. Unfortunately I haven't touched a vert ramp since 2005 at Playstation in London when I was just about managing ball high airs and 50-50's.
    Pretty much all I skate now is a local bowl and a pump track.
    You've inspired me to make an effort to find some vert and I'll invest in some knee pads and a helmet.

  • @AndySo2000
    @AndySo2000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dude you have serious balls. You just go for it. You progress quickly, it’s impressive. You should try to get into more flatland tricks? Like split your time between skating transition and then also street skate? I find learning all the basic flip tricks and skating ledges etc can really tie it all together. You can gain a lot of style and board control having street tricks on lock. Just skating transition can also slow progression IMO. Just a bit of advice I never hear in tutorials. Like not skating at skate parks. I’ve progressed a lot with this techinique. Plus just doing lip tricks on ramps gets old. You’re skating is rad and I like the enthusiasm. Keep it going!

    46 and about to spend 3 days at Woodward where there will be real vert ramps. I do ok ok 6’ miniramps but when I get up the wall above 5’ I start to get scared and kick turns get loose on me. Front foot feels like no grip. Anyone else experience this? I may have to try doing these.

      I usually find if anything is not quite right in a manoeuvre it’s at least one of the following ;
      A bit more knee bend,
      A bit more speed
      A different line in
      Shoulders are wrong
      A bit more commitment
      For me it’s usually all of these at once 😂

    Man when you knee slide you have to lean back so you only use your knees, no hands or elbows. You always trying to save yourself with your hands, just don’t do that. When you bail just lend on your knees and lean back so you slide on your knees only.
    Unless you facing the ramp then you slide on your knees and elbows at the same time.

    • @JonBishopSkate
      @JonBishopSkate  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, just showing the progression in the video, so the early ones have less commitment and then the better ones are just knees? I use the elbows for coming down backwards, I saw that tip in an Andy Mac tutorial and it works great. As I explain in the video I’m still rehabbing my knee so as the flexibility returns this will become easier!
