I think this song is about Steve's career on Broadway, more specifically Steve's role in the play Cats, which we see in ep. 3: The first verse is about getting ready for a performance: Brushing hair, reading lines, putting on make up, putting on a show. The first course is about him moving up in the world; the heavyside layer is a reference to Cats, being the place all the Cats want to go to. The second verse mentions being "old deut", referencing the character of Old Deuteronomy from Cats, the character we see Steve play in ep. 3; however, this is immediately followed up with the two lines "now he's old deut, I've lost he part", implying he was dropped in favor of someone else. This is followed by the second course, mentioning going down to the center of the earth, I believe representing a decent into depression. I think Steve's time on Broadway will be important later on in the show.
In a way him dressing up as a clown and while not serving the best burgers but still being able to provide a smile to people might be what makes his Burger enterprise special. Steve can still put on a show.

This certainly hits different after the season 2 finale
How do people know its the finale?
How do people know that@@JackNapierRisus
Its all coming together omg..
so what i'm getting here is that some songs not only tell the lore of a character, they're 100% literal
Losing my mind at the old deut lyric it was there from the beginning 1:09
my word he HAD THIS PLANNED FROM THE BEGINNING AND WE DIDNT EXPECT IT
You know, at first I thought it was interesting that Cesare's theme implies his backstory pretty much to the letter. i thought it was an interesting choice bc it seemed like Steve's theme was more nonsensical and using Cats symbolically.
Turns out UP was also 100% literal.
This hits different after the latest episode
I love how screams/ yelling is just casually part of this and it fits so well god
Why are there so many CATS references in this song?
G1ngerbred Maybe because Steve had a past in theatre and lost the part of Old Deuteronomy? I heard someone say that, and it seems backed up by a scene in the latest one :)
@Jack Ahess in the first chorus he says "Up up up to the heavyside lair" and in the second verse he says "I'm old deut, now he's old Deut" (as in old Deuteronomy)
I literally dont know.
"back on broadway yet again"
@@remnantofgrief Don't worry Steve, I won't call the fire department! *Sweet Penny face* ^_^
LOOOOOORE, it was HERE, ALL ALONG!
I'm luvvin that bass , 64 yrs young, still rockin.
Waddafuk Runamok !!!!!
Mmmm... That bass is crunchier than how I like my home fried potato chips.
Nice. I don't even need salt to make this beat tasty.
The start of this song almost sounds like a Radiohead song, which is one of the reasons why I love it so much.
Radiohead is my most favorite band of all time💚
Wouldn't it be wacky is Steve started his truck because he threw up eating a zomburger making him lose his audition, so now he battles the terrible food with good food.
HOW IS THIS ENTIRE SONG STEVE LORE
After the latest episode, this song now makes sense.
