      Thanks Mike! It’s right around the corner. Been seeing a few geese myself, just not in areas I can hunt them..

    Good job so far Thomas. Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs, the Titanic was built by professionals!!

    Man 8x3 is pretty tight. We were going to make one 8x4 that way we could use a single sheet of plywood for the floor but even that was too skinny so we went 8x6 and it’s perfect

    • @HokeOutdoors
      @HokeOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah in hindsight I would’ve made it 8x4, just didn’t realize how tight 8x3 would be. That said I’m going to make a little roof and platform off the back to store gear or cook. The main blind will be really just for shooting. I’m hoping it’ll be just big enough, we will see

    Getting it square can sometimes be a little frastrated. I would cut first the plywood for the 4x4's to fit to the plywood. Then use that as a guide to drive your 4x4's. To get it exactly square. You will need at least three men to hold your 4x4 post. Take your measurements with a tape measure. Put your tape on the outside of 4x4' s. Then from there go and measure across the other and read your measurement on the outside of the other corner post. Then you do the two other 4x4's the same way. Now each measurement should come out the same. If your a 1/4" are 3/8" off I wouldn't worry about it . Just remember to measure in a crisscross. Which is an X formation from one post to the other.. good luck hunting and maybe building another blind. If this is on public land. I would suggest not driving your 4x4's in the ground. Just start about six inches from the bottom of each 4x4's. Then after finishing your blind. Seal it with a good caulking that dries hard and stays waterproof. That way you can float your blind to where the birds are flying.

      I need to build a floating blind in here for sure

    heck of a blind build a lot more classy than the blind I built last year on my hunting club pond free pallets and about $50 worth of 2x4s.

    • @HokeOutdoors
      @HokeOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man. I almost went with a pallet design, just decided I wanted to build something that I felt like could be used for years to come

      Virginia Outdoors Unlimited being in that specific hunting club we never know if we will get the lease every year so wanted something cheap and pretty easy to build.

    Cool build. Bad location. The mud will settle and the posts will sink over time and make the floor uneven and eventually break, maybe sooner than later. Suggestion: pull the post out of the ground, chop off the 36ins that were in the ground. Set the bottom floor frame directly on the ground and use some sort of water treatment or water seal. That way the whole build is solid on the ground and has no where to fall to. And it will distribute the weight on so it dosnt sink when the bank gets soggy and wet. Trust me, as soon as you add weight the posts will sink and ruin all your hard work

    • @HokeOutdoors
      @HokeOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get what your saying but I just find it hard to envision those posts sinking enough to really mess up the build. At this point we're far enough along that I think we'll just stay the course and hope we don't have these issues. I do appreciate the warning and suggestion and have no doubt you're talking from experience, and if we do have issues I have no problem with you saying "I told you so"

    Not sure if I missed it, but is this 3'x8' for two or three people? Looking to build one for three people with a little more space.. was thinking 5'x10'? Any recommendations?

    • @HokeOutdoors
      @HokeOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s 3 x 8 for three people and it actually not cramped at all at that size. 5 x 10 would be good for a little more space though

    Just be careful Incase if flooding mine that I built flooded so bad it lifted the floor off the ground and broke my posts

    • @HokeOutdoors
      @HokeOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Damn that stinks. Luckily this pond is very unlikely to flood, it's mainly spring fed but also has a very small creek that flows into it
