tails doll can be found in pinball carnival act 2
A small correction, sonic in a bubble originated in the 8 bit sonic games. 1 or 2, i believe.
And the hud looks like its from xtreme.
@@DJ4461 the bubble was from S2 8 bit.
@@FinalHopeTrio thanks. I was actually just about to check, so you had perfect timing.
At 1:55, the fake capsule one is also referenced on superstars. And I remember it was also in other series...
Love how Sonic Superstars has original zones but still has callbacks to previous stages. Plus I'm glad the Rabbit concept art is now playable.
Mhm!
I call him Feels The Rabbit
@@creeperthe2670that’s his actual name!
@@DWBWTDNAS_pgtv12 oh cool
Actually, it's a name created by the fandom.
The bubble is actually a reference to Game Gear Sonic. Specifically Sonic 2 (8-bit) and Sonic Triple Trouble, which is also where Mania got it from. Also frozen was in 3&K and CD
The frozen pose is highly reminescent of a piece of concept art for Mania's Press Garden Zone with frozen Sonic
About to say that
But in 3&K You take damage from it
Sonic mania itself is a game of references
@@supermaximglitchy1which is my main issue with it. (Even tho that’s a bit off topic)
7:31 this probably also reference to launch base zone cutscene from Sonic 3 where at the end of the act 2 Sonic just hop on Eggman's mobile and just casually driving it
And apparently Trip got the best one
Don’t forget that Frozen Base Act 2 is a recreation of Fantasy Zone for the Master System, was a little too excited to see that referenced!
And they forgot Tails' (Sonic 2) and Amy's (I wanna see it, I hope it's based on Sonic CD's)
FYI, this game also got an arcade release, which is what Sonic Superstars most likely got the influence from.
I think they also managed to squeeze in the early loop de loop concepts from Sonic 1, the loops in Golden Capital look incredibly similar!
Bro I lost it at that! 🤯 I couldn’t remember if it was Fantasy Zone or Space Harrier but the references were hitting me left, right and center. That was so cool!
@@bannyisterYo you might be right 🤯. I remember the early designs and thinking back to Golden Capital, it would’ve been easy to throw that reference in there so they must have! Now I gotta go back and check!
Splats the Rabbit was finally used in Sonic Mania in Act 1 of the Newspaper factory level Press Garden. A variant of Splats can be accessed via Debug mode in Green Hill too. Mania took a bunch of Sonic GG gimmicks too like the big bubble. Started from Sonic 2 GG and used again in Sonic Triple Trouble. In addition, The Mechs before the Fantasy Zone level are actually references to the Eggmobiles from Sonic 1 (Sonic's), 2 (Tails), CD (Amy's, its the Tidal Tempest boss) and 3 (Knux). So they are actually riding Eggmobiles from their introductory games.
6:19 really glad they brought back the Zone selects like this from Generations and makes sense with classic sonic.
And advance 3
The Big Bubble Reference Is From Aqua Lake Zone From 8 Bit Sonic 2, Just That Mania Also Referenced It
It also appeared in Tidal Plant Zone from Triple Trouble
Especially, when the Second Chao Emerald had the burst wisp reference.
There are also drills in Golden Capital zone that are obvious references to drill wisp
"Chao" emerald lmao
3:06 actually that’s a reference to Tidal Plant in Sonic Triple Trouble. Anyone who played NEVER forgets that level as Sonic lol
The references are cool, Especially the same overworld from generations.
Similarity ≠ reference
Inspiration ≠ reference
Imitation ≠ reference
Still, fun videos to watch I guess. Nice job catching em all.
7:40 also a reference to the original cutscene from launch base zone act 2
Isn’t the whole level a reference to it?
@@Spazy912 idk i haven't seen the whole Game
@@IB_509 well it is a base that is launching a Flying Fortress
In case you didn't know, the rope spikes trap fang gets caught in is orignally from the Sonic Ride short in Sonic Jam (though how it appears here is definitely modelled on its appearance in Mania Adventures), and the bubble mechanic is from Aqua Lake zone in Sonic 2 8-Bit (Though once again, its appearance draws from Mania)
Not Man of the Year, but Sonic Ride, rather.
@@Rutawind Thank you for the correction! I wasn't super sure and had entirely forgotten about sonic ride so that's good to know!
Fun Fact: at 2:41, the bubble float is also reference to Sonic Triple Trouble (not 16 bit remake)
3:57 um,that was actually firstly created in sonic and knuckles in death egg zone..•-•
I loved seeing all those references and I’m sure there’s so much more to find! The Generations-esque level select screen got me so happy!
I’m pretty sure 5:28 is a reference to Sonic cd in Wacky workbench
- The Bonus Stage seems to particularly reference a cut SCD Bonus Stage in addition to S1's Special Stage.
- The odd spike trap debuted first in a Sonic Jam-featured animation before Sonic Mania Adventures.
- Sonic being in a bubble in the water debuted in Sonic 2 Game Gear, also appearing in Triple Trouble I think, before Mania.
the music for Superstar's Sonic 1 style special stages makes me feel like a hole is being bored into my head
I cant believe they refrenced sonic superstars all those years back🤯
🤯🤯 Holy shit no way!!!
There is also lagoon city act 1 theme being like hydrocity with very similar leimotifs
Sonic taking over the Egg Mobile in Frozen Base Zone is also a reference to Sonic 3, as he does the same thing in Launch Base Zone.
The fact Trip's play through is reminiscent of Knuckles' in S3K, AND that their vehicle would be the first one you see in &Knuckles, makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
7:45 glad to see the vehicles from S3 return
3:39 I'm not very sure about this, but this thing (before the one you were talking about) might be a Sonic Time Twisted reference
Time twisted is just a fan game
@@DubiousDepthsRadio yes, but still. Have you seen anything like that in any official Sonic game? I doubt you have.
@@ibis03 🤦♂️
Now i get what you talking about
If you we're talking about the zig zag jump thing
He didn't meant that, he was talking about the teleport thing.
@@DubiousDepthsRadio yeah, I know that they've been talking about the thing after the one I've been talking about. I'm gonna edit the first comment, so it wouldn't be as confusing as it was
@@ibis03 ok fam 🍷🗿
The Big Bubble idea firstly came from Sonic 2 for the Sega Master System; it’s the version where Tails gets captured, not a playable character
I know that, but I think during the development of Superstars, SEGA mainly focused on Mania's gimmicks and not the game gear ones.
The egg man vehicle reference is awesome!
Love how they referenced sonic 1,3 and 3 again with The angel island boss eggmobile I love those references
Having all those hovercrafts from previous games make for good material to have for SFM/GMod.
Tails has the Sonic 2 Eggmobile while Amy has the one from CD
@@foxtrap86flameyeah I said that in the next vid since it wasn’t shown here
0:17 this is not only a reference to sonic special stage 1 but but its also a reference to the unused sonic cd special stage too
I also noticed that there were some song references like in pinball carnival. There was a song reference in there to casino night, and there’s also another song reference in the theme of lagoon city that sounded similar to a part of Hydro city
References that I found in this game:
1. The ability "bullet" has arrows that indicate how fast you'll charge much like the spindash's functionality in Sonic Labyrinth
2. The pose Tails does after completing an act is from the title screen of Sonic the Hedgehog 2
3. The pose Knuckles does after completing an act and Classic Amy's in-game artwork with her modern outfit are from their respective artworks of Sonic Advance
4. Rail grinding in a 2D Sonic was a thing for Sonic and Amy in Sonic Advance and for Tails and Knuckles in Sonic Advance 2
5. The concept of collecting one chaos emeralds per zone first started in Sonic the Hedgehog (8-bit)
6. Cyber Station Zone has a huge resemblance to Techno Base from Sonic Advance 2
7. The Mosasaurus chase in Bridge Island Zone has a huge resemblance to the Orca chase in act 1 of Emerald Coast from Sonic Generations (Nintendo 3DS)
I accidentally wrote "one chaos emeralds" when I should've wrote "one chaos emerald"
No minuto 0:11 o special stage faz uma referência ao Sonic 1 de mega drive e também a música e um pouco semelhante ao special stage de Sonic 1 de mega drive!
E tem partes que lembra a música do special stage
I remember them and the background changes like the original too
The Sonic Mania or the Original Classic Sonic the Hedgehog 1991 game references are gonna be one of my favorite moments before!
Tails Doll is also hidden in one of the stages
Which?
@@mega6662pinball Carnival Act 2
3:00 fun fact, this floating on bubbles was first used on a 8-bit sonic game. Though I don't remember which one it was... I think triple trouble
There's a Ristar reference in Speed Jungle act 1 where some bushes contain tiny spiky bombs
game has great reference, if only they referenced the good music too
I mostly enjoyed Sonic Superstars' music 🎶
The bonus s1 stage in superstars music do sound like the original s1 bonus stage
Well lagoon city act 1 has a hidrocity reference soooooo
Don't know if it's a reference or just coincidence BUT, in the slow power logo the clock is pointing at 10 clock and I think they say to jump at 10 o'clock on the loops to do the little boost thingie, it can be coincidence, but still XD
I’m subbed to the channel
4:20 to complete the reference, you should’ve had Metal Sonic as your multiplayer avatar.
Or mecha
3:46 This may also be a reference to the Laser Wisp
8:07 why didn't you put tails and amy cutscenes on these egg mobile references?
Tails' and Amy's vehicle wasn't familiar to me, so I left them out.
@@DanielDX tails's vehicle originated from sonic 2 and amy's from sonic cd in the bubble boss fight
There's a chance you redo?
Why did you skip two Eggmobiles? The one Tails pilots is from his debut game, Sonic 2, while Amy's is from her debut game, Sonic CD. I honestly didn't know about Trip's though, that's a neat nod.
I honestly couldn't figure out where the vehicles from Tails and Amy come from.
5:40 also a mechanic in sonic cd's wacky workbench and sonic 3&k's ice cap
Splats being in a official sonic game enrmy finally is amazing
Also you missed one last secret. There's a very secret badnik in pinball carnival act 2
Wasn't Splats in press garden zone already?
Oh, you mean Tails Doll?
You should play as tails in pinball carnival act 2 and check some places you could see a familiar face
4:17 He brought back the Instadeath Laser
0:01 This song reminds me of the one that plays at a certain point in Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town
Nobody can't teleport from 2023 to 1991. Sonic Superstars Special stages:
Many are actually older and not from mania, mania got many from predecessor sonic games...and ill just noticed one stage has a remix from sonic 4 ep 2 - world two. but amazing comparison. :3
still good :3
Amy's egg-mobile is based off of CD
That scraped Sonic 1 enemy was actually put into Sonic Mania in Press Garden zone act 1
You forgot Fantasy Zone
(2:58) the original reference its from sonic 2 sega master system
2:36 Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-bit)
5:28 Sonic the Hedgehog CD
6:19 Sonic Advance 3
I Love How Max Is In The Game!
Sonic Superstars' soundtrack is actually the remixed from Sonic 4 Episode 1 or Episode 2?
The transition 6:59
3:06 nope its from sonic 2 on the game gear
I want a game that is a call back to the modern era
Id say sonic superstars is a amazing for all classic sonic fans
5:39 , that's from sonic 3
Hey just like sonic hysteria
"Imagine fight a robot version of your sonic oc"Leo The Boy
The ice cube reference was shown on sonic3 too
2:25 that is also in sonic mania's press garden zone
A Mistake or Whatever): The Bubble Gimmick Originated in Sonic 2 (SMS) & Triple Trouble (GG)
4:55 I guess the battle in superstars more like Sonic Generations than CD
How a reference to Sonic Bubble Mania comes from Sonic 2 and Sonic Freezing CD
You missed a reference to the end from sonic frontiers. I. the egg fortress zone, you can see the end out of the window and its staring at you😮
Yeah, totally forgot that 😅
3:03 wrong momentum. Correct moment: Sonic Game Gear Games
2:55 it's also in sonic 2 8-bit and sonic tripple trouble
Here's a non sonic reference: frozen baze act 2 is actually a homage to the sega arcade game "fantasy zone"
2:42
Fun fact: this reference is not from sonic mania: this is from sonic the hedgehog 8-bit in labyrinth zone
The bubble is by extension a Sonic 2 (8-bit) reference
WTH I FOUND A MARIO REFERENCE?!
0:17 think this is a reference to a scrapped version of the Sonic CD Special Stage
In lagoon city ost there's a part that sound like hydrocity
2:21 the name of the scrapped enemy is splats
You forgot The LEGO Sonic skins which are based on The actual LEGO Sonic sets (Knuckles is based on a minifigure that's coming in 2024)
The thing where it freezes was first in sonic cd (i think) if nit then it was sonic 3&K
You forgot one of the bosses in Superstars (I forgot which level) is the same as the Twinkle Snow boss from Sonic Advance 3
Also, in the last zone, the end is there through a window
The enemy at 2:22 that you said was scrapped is in Sonic Mania's Press Garden Zone
yeah it appeared in that level but it was initially intended to be in sonic one but got scrapped, there were even toys of it around the game's release date
Yeah but the mania had a different design
Sonic Superstars honestly looks like Sega took the SAME approach as Sonic the Hedgehog 4
Not really. For one the game didn’t start out as a mobile title
one more reference in the first cutscene (sonic 4 and sonic mania)
The fourth reference actually first debut in Sonic Triple Trouble, not Sonic Mania
Whos the person at 7:56 is that trip? Or an amy skin
Sonic Superstars is 100% reference
You missed sonic frontiers “ the end” on the last level background of egg fortress
Fun fact: the part of “Cyber Station” Zone were you’re flying as a rocket ship is actually an exact replica of a section of Doomsday Zone from Sonic 3 and K.
The bombs on the tall grass is a reference to Ristar!
Which bombs do you mean and where to find them?
@@DanielDX The ones in Speed Jungle, if go though the tall grass they stick to your character
Isn't the red chaos emerald a color power red burst?
Is there any sonic advance reference
I appreciate the effort, but so many of those things are not from Mania. The big bubble, being frozen.. they all came from much earlier games.
I'm aware of that. But I just think that during the development, SEGA was mainly focused on Mania's gimmicks.
The bridge zone and jungle zone came back Sonic Superstars because 8-bit Sonic made a bridge zone and jungle zone because they changed into bridge Island and speed jungle
Actually, the floating bubble one is from sonic 2 8-bit
What about Mecha Sonic from Sonic 2?
3:01 there you literally wrong. Because Mania not first who done it. As I know that mechanic from 8-bit sonic game.
5:42 Again wrong. The freeze mechanic appeared in Sonic CD. (Wacky Workbench)
