You honestly don't realize how fun reading is until you try. Once you get hooked, it's hard to stop, at least that's my experience
I concur, especially if you're interested in what you read. I can get lost for hrs reading.
I try to read in all of my free time. 😊
@LéaCeresa, I agree. I have been reading books since grade school, and still reading at 79.
Wholeheartedly agree. I often find myself pausing movies or TV shows if I’m reminded of a book I’m reading and want to dive back in. You can really disappear into worlds while reading in a way that is completely different from other types of media.
I didn't really start reading in earnest until middle school. My grandmother got me a magazine subscription and I went from reading the little blurb things to the full on articles and then novels in less than a year. I could read but I didn't enjoy it. Now I do. The world's that I've discovered!❤❤❤
I swear Kimberly Elise is one of the most underrated actressses out there. Her talent and the way she portrays every character she's ever played has always been outstanding. She is amazing.

While she did not have much education at the time, she was very observant. She realized all of the successful people she worked for were great readers.

As an avid reader, I agree with her message and encourage my nieces and nephews to do the same. Reading is fundamental.✌🏿
Same. I did this with my nieces except in a less subtle way because they never put their phones & devices down. I still have the picture of them sitting reading their books. 😂
Yes I used to live at the library and things and I get books I got a whole bunch of books the other day and my niece loves to read
Reading is my thing, I love words and love calligraphy, linguistics as we would have nothing without words, no reading no conversation etc. I've never seen this film but I am going to watch it right now.Books and reading made 5yrs in prison more than a life lesson but an educational 1 too.

Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story
Thank you
My Grandmother taught me to read simple things when i was three. Im almost 70 now and ive never stopped reading. Best gift of my lifetime.
I was reading by age 3. My mom taught me because I begged her.
I was the slowest to pick up in studies, in my siblings even though I was the oldest one. slowly around 9/10 years old I pick up a comics book and starts from there. from comics to romance novel, history book and etc. I'm 30 now and I still love to read.
I taught my one n only n youngest daughter how 2 read, cuz she begged me when she was 5yrs.old n in grade 1, so by da time she was in 8yrs.old n in grade 4 (they would do buddy reading @ her school- where da upper grade students -grades 5-8 teach da lower grades 1-4) n she was da one teaching some of da upper grade students how 2 read instead of vice versa 😊😊😊😊
My patents didn't have to be such a prude. Not only did I watch tv, I played video games, I worked on computers. To get me to read, my parents TOOK me to the library and took me to get my library card. They also would just buy me books. Lots of judy blume and Beverly cleary, I discovered one of my parents books called "The God Project" by John Saul. That was so good and scary, I discovered Stephen kings then koontz, then Patterson, then laHaye and Jenkins, Rowling, and a host of writers who are and aren't famous and I didn't have to be punished, talked down to, to develop my affinity to read and I read thousands of pages per book today. I prefer larger books. This was to much and unnecessary.
Me too! My grandmother had me writing in cursive very simple words at about 5, and my babysitter was Hispanic, she’d been caring for me since I was 3. So I was bilingual.
My sister was born when I was 6, and I became the babysitter by 7, forgot the language quickly, although I still understand quite a bit, I wouldn’t be able to communicate well.
But I read at college level by 12. That was good and bad. Elementary schools didn’t exist back then, our Catholic school had books far darker than appropriate for 8 year olds. There should have been safeguards in place. Some of them gave me nightmares for years. Lol.
I’m 56, and reading is still my passion. I’d love to write a book and have been told I’ve got a gift. I wouldn’t know where to start. But my Grandmother was Gods greatest gift to my life from the second I drew breath.
She even saved my life at 6 weeks old. I still miss her every day.
I love this. As a book reader i approve this message
You are also a professional youtube short watcher🎉
Knowledge is a power really
As a child I preferred books over toys. I still read, but not as much. I've got to do better.
what movie is this?
Yup glad I van read books on my phone 2. Being it a novel of other some sort of story I really enjoy it more because thé choice to read a book of any sort is Endless to pick out.
Mothers like her are priceless 😢. God bless every mother in the world.
Dr. Carson's mother taught us all that the key to getting out of poverty is education--not necessarily schooling. You can go to school and not receive education. It wasn't until she insisted that her boys engage in self-education, reading and summarizing real books, that they excelled intellectually. She was one smart, tuff cookie.
The world needs more Mothers like this…..
Not to detract from God's gift of Motherhood, but Fathers (Dads) can and should be supportive and/or leading their family in the education of their children.
One way is to encourage memorizing scriptures from The Word of God.
Its a good plan till the parent has to take the kid to the library. Provide the material to write the reports and then find the time to read the reports.
Go to Korea or Japan, parts of China, many other parts of Asia, too. They value education much more than western societies do. And then they use their education to invent the most addictive social apps for money.
Or fathers... keep asking more and more from woman, when are men gonna be the example?
Going to jail got me into reading. Read the glass house. Best book ever written. Had me gasping 😂😂😂
There’s a huge difference between “turn the tv off because ur dumb” VS “read instead of watching TV so you can become someone that ppl would want to watch!”👌🏾
There is a good reason the TV is called the 'boobtube.' I used to read 40 books every 3 months plus took care of a double amputee husband, cleaned the apartment, & worked 39 hours per week. Now as a 74 widow I have the TV on for companionship, background noise as I sit to wait for death to come & claim me.
Most parents are the ones turning on the TV because they are dumb. And they pass the lesson to their kids.

AWESOME MAMA. AWESOME DECISION ❤❤❤❤❤
My Mom never finished her sophomore year in Secondary school. But she knew the importance of education. Before i even turned 7 years old, she had me read alot of books. I was already reading books by Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl and Hans Christian Andersen by the time i started Primary School. Only TV programs i can watch are documentaries and educational shows like Sesame Street and Blues' Clues. And i live in a non-english speaking country but i was already speaking, reading and writing proper english while kids my age were struggling to form a proper sentence. Thanks Mom.
I didn't let my kids watch Sesame Street because of the bad grammar. However, when her pre-kindergarten teacher went to answer the phone one day, upon her return, she found my four-year-old daughter finishing the book (that she had been reading) for the rest of the class. It wasn't a Jane and Tom and Spot book, either, but a book with complex sentences, punctuation, a real story. When she called me and asked, "Do you know what your daughter did?", I was stumped, because my daughter was a good child. Then she told me about the book. I honestly did not know at that time that four-year-olds didn't read like that.
Excellent parenting!! You were a lucky, well cared for child!! Enjoy your life!!
She was blessed!🙏🏽
I had never heard of Enid Blyton until you mentioned her. I looked her up and thanks to you I now know of one more famous writer. Thanks.

The mother is a great example of overcoming poverty and and your destination. She motivated her sons to do more and to be more. My mom and dad were the same way. We didn’t come from a home with a lot of money, but as kids always were clean, fed and made the honor roll, it’s hard to understand generational poverty, and welfare just takes one parent one teacher one special adult to help a kid changes his future
Sounds like they failed if you still can’t figure out why others can get out of the mire. Your singular experience doesn’t dictate the norm of society at large.
You sound like a idiot. Considering the fact that there are more white women on welfare.
@@angelique707You are wrong nothing can stop thousands of people who do not give up and keep looking for a way out of poverty. Eventually they all find a way out, hopefully with help from those who already succeeded. The problems are short-sightedness, selfishness and defeatism in a community...
@@angelique707 this is absolutely the truth. I'm so sick of people ignoring the constant goal post movement when it comes to Black Americans and this country.
@angelique707 I understand what you are saying, when certain life experiences can seem to hold you down, and your surroundings and the peers around you have the same expectations. However, I agree that if one person can be a positive influence and motivate you, so that you put an honest effort into learning and striving, amazing things can happen. Do not give up to hopelessness or be discouraged. Find the strength inside you. Once you feed that part of you, it grows. Years ago, I watched a movie starring Edward James Olmos called Stand and Deliver. He portrayed a real-life teacher named Jaime Escalante, who taught math at an inner-city school, many with Latino youths, and due to his enthusiasm and encouragement, they scored better than the national average on placement tests for AP Calculus. In fact, they did so well, they were suspected of cheating since expectations were so low for the school where they were located. They did the test again, this time with observers, and scored even better the second time. Many of those students went on to graduate from college, which was not the expected norm previously for that community. Now, this is a true story, not a made up fairy tale. This was accomplished by the belief instilled in these students through the action of one man. Imagine what could be accomplished if more people had hope and belief in themselves and were willing to instill it in others.
My Mom taught us to read early. I would cry when it rained and it was too much trouble for her to bundle us 4 kids to take a bus there and back. Thanks Mom.. you've been gone almost 2 years but I thrive everyday from God's grace and your loving lessons and love ❤

There we would listen in those days to cassettes of books...then he did borrow some and we would be spending weekends listening to audio tapes of stories and novels with sound effects. What a great moment we have.

I always have to thank my 6th grade teacher for giving me my love of reading. Thank you Mrs. Freed.
When me and my sister were these kids age, our mom gave us the same speech about reading and developing our talents.
Thank you, mom
When were children, myself and my brothers would 10-15 books EACH from the library snd read it! Books helped me manage my teenage and pre teen years. I would dive in to them and literally pretend to be the character.❤❤❤
What movie is this? I would love to watch it. Please send it to me.❤
A true to life story of Dr . Benjamjn Carson -GIFTED HANDS. Very grateful my highschool english teacher introduced this to us. Very inspiring. :)
God bless everyone.
Lol dr Carson is a huge liar
@@asuba57 One wonders why he ran off the rails regarding 45. Does the movie cover that aspect of his life?
@@be6715 how did he run off the rails?
@@asuba57Whatever.He has made great strides with his God given talents.Who have you blessed today with yours?
@@lavanniarajalingam50 Tied his caboose to 45.
What a lovely exchange between the man and the woman. And then she passed it on directly.
My most valuable birthday present was a picture dictionary when I turned 6. It made me the avid reader I am today. Thanks to Mum and Dad.🙏🏽
Thanks for the excellent gift idea!!❤❤❤
Books were the gifts I'd always give my offspring. They all turned out loving to read. Now working on my grand offspring.
This movie is highly recommended. A very beautiful and inspiring story od Dr. Ben Carson.
DR BEN CARSON was blessed beyond measure with such a mom ! He is a national treasure
And then he became a Republican and forgot where he came from
@@maryclyne he himself said that the values of his mother were actually similar with the values of conservative. Imagine liberals agreeing with his mom technique of raising her children. It would never happened
@@maryclyneit must be exhausting being that hateful.
@@doop6769 well he did squander the last 8 or so years of his life
@@youyou9621 funny that exactly how my Marxist mom raised me and my sis
MY GRANDMOTHER TAUGHT ME & MY SIBLINGS TO READ THE BIBLE EVERY SATURDAY BEFORE WE COULD GO OUT & PLAY. I THANK GOD FOR HER. SHE WAS THE BEST GRANNY E-V-E-R. # R.I.P. MY LOVE ❤️🙏❤️
I'm in my 70s and my two favorite books since childhood are Petunia and The Little Engine That Could.
Petunia is about a silly goose and one day she finds a book and begins to believe she is wise because she has a book. The farmyard animals also begin to believe she is wise and ask her for advice on several occasions. Unfortunately, all her advice caused more problems than it solved. In tge end she discovered that the book had letters and words and just carrying a book isn't what makes one wise. One has to actually read and learn.
I teach Bible study to teens and I point out to my kids that carrying a Bible is not enough if they never open it and find out what is in it.
Walk Tall. You Walk Well and will never be sorry for your choices. Laura ~ the Librarian
Great mom!!! She has me reminiscing on how my mom raised me ❤❤❤
She was an amazing woman ❤
She still is
If only we all had moms like her! She is an admirable woman and mom.
This is a portrayal of Dr Ben Carson's mother and his and his brother's life. Supposedly she was poorly educated and had mental health issues, but instilled strong values in her sons. For one son to become an engineer and the other to be a world renowned surgeon performing some of the most difficult surgeries in the world, I'd say that is phenomenal. How's that for fulfilling her last statement about people watching you on TV if you use your God given gifts.
My moms use to make me go to the library every weekend and pick out books to read and write about. We eventually had a small bookshelf full of books that i would read over and over. I was one of the best readers in my classes and thank my mother for taking the time to teach ne/ educate me.
We lived at the bottle of a hill. The library was at the top. Across 63rd street. White on one side black neighborhood on the other. My mother took us to the library. One day my 2 brothers and I actually had to fight our way from the library to the other side of 63rd st. The library was on 65th. That day was not the last day we went to the library. Because a wise woman once said sometimes you got to fight for your education.
I can still remember the smell of all those books at our local library when I was a kid. Brings back such nostalgic feelings.
Be great if library open all weekends
RESPECT for this mother! 💞
Our grandmother always took us to the library, her awesomeness helped the Dexter Library . Loved her heart. Thankyou.
The movie is "Gifted Hands". I highly recommend it. Ben Carson's mom couldn't read.
Thank you 😊

Ben Carson’s life story is story fascinating! The movie about his life is wonderful! So encouraging, entertaining and well done!
Are you insane.
My mother educated me about Dr. Ben Carson life and gave me copy of his book ❤thank you Mommy for being my first teacher 👍🏽
My voracious appetite for learning came from my father. A man of very few words but many actions. He too made us write reports when we finished reading books. At the time, I wondered how he could be so stern and even wicked due to his harshness when rebuking “time wasting” activities like watching tv. Though we no longer speak, I’m an avid reader because of his influence in my life. That discipline helped me spurn distractions when it came to my studies and I have parlayed those influences to enjoy a steady fruitful career. I should call my father…
YES. You should...

Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story
Thank you, great I really wanna watch this
I'm 62 now and one of the best gifts my Mother gave me @ a very young age was taking me to the library. Reading is such a wonderful thing for so many reasons.
Stunning performance 👏 👌 ❤️ ✨️ 💖 . Especially on the scene where she turned off the tv and encouraged her sons to start reading books ... instead becoming couch potatoes .
"Gifted hands" one of the best movie I have ever watched.
The book is even better!
The written report😩😩😩 That’s my dad. My big sister and brother used to complained since they were teens but me I was enjoying it. Now we all are grateful because of the impact of what he sowed in us
I used to love reading books..📚 As a child growing up. I had a bag of book delivered to me every other week. My mother ordered them for me. She noticed how much I enjoyed it..I couldn’t wait to shared what I read and learned about..I was always so excited and fascinated by the things I learned and read about.
