About being surrounded by music growing up she is quoted “It’s a huge part of our culture. In the car my dad would always play his favourite Moroccan artists and I’d be singing along. There was a lot of Arabic music being played and a lot of pop music when we listened to the radio so it was a nice blend of both.” “Growing up hearing beautiful voices like Umm Kulthum or Fayrouz, I would always try to imitate the way they did their trills and now it’s ingrained in my voice forever.”
As soon as you mentioned The Fray, I was hooked. 😂 Man, their early stuff was the shit! 🙌 I saw them live at least 4-5 times in the early-to-mid 2000’s, and every single time was a divine experience. And they literally sang “Happy Birthday” to me on my actual 21st birthday at this tiny little venue called The Windjammer in Isle of Palms, SC. So they will always have a special place in my heart. ☺️ They had a handful of singles that at least briefly got proper Billboard attention. It made me so sad to see them just kinda fade away, but they sold out after their second full length album, and just weren’t nearly as good. Too heavy on the synthesized crap. Their strength was in the piano-driven melodies and the gorgeous vocals, and that was sadly lost. I saw them live on the anniversary of the death of the young man that inspired the lead singer (Isaac Slade) to write “How to Save a Life.” And it was literally the most beautiful music experience of my life. They closed the show with that song, and toward the end of it, the lead singer/piano player gradually faded out, and turned himself around on the piano bench to face audience, and he was literally in tears as the audience finished the song. 😭
I just recently discovered your channel, and am loving it. More Faouzia please! She makes us Canadians proud. :-) I love how her Arabic roots are woven through her music, like gold threads in a beautiful tapestry. For something else that's Canadian, and excellent, check out Mustafa, and his single "Stay Alive". It's where his current journey begins.
Its been a while since you reacted to Faouzia... If you ever decide to react to her in the future, then you should check out *Für Elise* (LIVE PREFORMANCE) It will blow your mind. Her voice in this is MENTAL.
Her riffs and runs are middle easten , for sure she is moroccan so it's easy to her and for all the arabic people, to do it , by the way your reaction is cool thanks
