That is the coolest review I every viewed. Such an epic chanel, you two guys rules. About the Dimmu song: it is one of the best songs this band recorded. It is atmospheric, chinematic, melodic, black and through some guitar riffs really pure black metal. I absolutely love it.

100% it's like they're more mature and willing to experiment, pushing black metal into even more territories. I fucking loved this song.

WOW! you guys like the outfits?! That means a lot to me. It took me all summer 2017 to make those. I literally left my studio maybe 10 time for 3.5 months 20 hour work sessions to get those done. The pressure from the band and label was intense because they wanted to release the album A.S.A.P.!!!! They are all rad guys in person. As a fan and a designer I did my best to do something new and outrageous for them. It's always nice to hear someone likes the outfits. Your channel rocks too!

I watched several videos of reactions about this song, and the video of you guys was by far the coolest! The reactions (and the faces) during the song video and the comments after translate very well the feeling of great part of the Dimmu Borgir fans, who were waiting for an atmospheric, fast and heavy sound at the same time. Congrats Guys! Subscribed!

This one is so much better than the last one that they released, definitely has that older feel, and almost sounds like if Ghost went actual black metal, instead of just being black metal influenced. The mountains they were showing are SUPER significant, those are THE Dimmuborgir, AKA the Dark Forts, the Dark Castles, the strange lava formations in Iceland that inspired the name of the band. If half of the album has this type of sound, I will be beyond happy. I still have a hard time getting my head around the choral singers and can't help but think what might have been, had Vortex still been with the band, but taken for what it is, does it blow my socks off? No. Waiting nearly 8 years for an album has peaked my expectations. Do I really, really dig this track? Absofuckinglutely. It would have fit nicely into several of their older albums, and as a long time fan, I can also really appreciate that they are doing something new here while paying homage to their original sound. I can not wait to hear more.

The first single is a masterpiece...a Gothic Black Metal pop song....its so good I hope they continue to do more songs just like it...However, this track exhibits the more progressive almost aboriginal element to their music...really fuckin great: dark & moody as the reaction critic pointed out...just hope the core fans don’t abandon them cuz this new record is gonna skyrocket thru the charts & take the symphonic Black Metal genre to a broader audience & cement its place in mainstream pop-culture forever...open ur mind, extreme music fans & embrace it...try to understand that this is the evolution of Black Metal & imperative to its growth and posterity in society and music/fashion/commerce...fucking high art avant-garde culture, yo!!!

    • @robowarriorx
      @robowarriorx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah brother I have to admit, its different, and at times it can take me by surprise, going against my expectations, but that is definitely a good thing. The tribal sound I can get behind as I am a big fan of traditional Viking music and bands like Wardruna, and Korpiklaani blends a lot of those elements to great effect as well, though not black metal. Its a slow go for me, as I've been listening to these guys since the early 90's, but I've been revisiting Abrahadabra lately and finding elements to it that I quite enjoy..looking forward to this album, and curious to see how they push it! Also, digging that Dimmu guitar sound that you only get from these guys (go listen to Born Treacherous and you can really hear it, then you can actually pick it out on several older albums, its like a unique signature)

Looking forward to release to enjoy all of the song, I think its gonna be mindblowing. I agree with every word you said in this video. Going to see Dimmu Borgir in Moscow in september, fuck yeah \m/

Excellent reaction. Won a new subscriber from me. Wasn´t sure about the new album after hearing Interdimensional Summit, but this song just freakin rules. Pre ordering the album based on this alone. I for one have no issue with songs like the first single, and if they can keep a balance between the sound on this one, and Summit, Eonian will be a kickass album in my eyes.
    Good stuff boys. Stay heavy.

Great review and reaction dudes! I am also really liking this sone better than the last single. It definitely relies more on atmosphere and the many parts within this song also help. I absolutely love the tribal drumming/chanting in those two sections......really caught me off guard but it a really good way. Dimmu made it work and I give them all the credit in the world. Can't wait to hear what's next.

I'm so in love with this new track. Absolutely amazing! It's dark, primitive and epic. It definitely got me excited for the new album, especially after the bum of Interdimensional Summit. I have to agree that the video was a bit dull but who cares the song is a total kick-ass!

    • @vitormachado322
      @vitormachado322 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I loved the track as well but i didn't felt the primitive, sounds more progressive, even the more "raw" parts gave me that progressive feel, I don't know if you meant primitive in this way. Anyway, far better than the first song.

You guys got yourselves a new subscriber! Love your reaction/reviews! Personally I like both new songs and I must admit I enjoy interdimensional a bit more just because it's a faster song (even though it isn't that fast) and I do enjoy the symphonic and melodic sound from Dimmu. In wolves and snakes I like the tempo switching and the storytelling and the build-up is just amazing. I do wish the album will give us more gems like this and I can't wait to hear it!

Honestly cant believe they stayed out of the studio so long ! Seems the impct the chorus singers has on the crowd at thier shows, has finally appeared in the studio & adds to the brooding heavyness, in more ways than I can count ! I wrote Shagrath over this song. The chants sound Native American so I told him of my Chickasaw Ancestry. The word Chickasaw means Warriors of Fire. We have something called the Eternal Flame Ceremony that we conduct for good luck all year round. During the Trail of Tears, we Chickasaws, were the LAST to leave and one of the only two tribes (Second out of the five total with us were the Cherokees), that were able to leave in favorable seasons and both of our tribes had the least amount of deaths. The Trail of Tears was a dark and sinister time for all the tribes that were forced off of their native lands, but now they’ve made new nations for themselves on their reservation lands; So it turned into something beautiful that they can now keep forever. We Chickasaws also believe that the Eternal Flame is in all of our hearts. We are ALL born as fighting spirits. “A Winged and Secret FLAME!!!!!! Leaving this Paradigm; A dimension we are set to flee. The ARRIVAL is in the departure!!!!!! (DEPARTURE!!!!!!). We are sculpted into LIFE, by the HANDS of DEATH!!!!!!”, is my favorite part of this song because that’s how sacred the Eternal Flame Ceremony is to us; It’s to bring us good luck as a tribe until we ourselves have passed away, and then we carry the flame in spirit even when God decides to call for us to come home. That’s what the lighter and darker parts resemble for me every time that I hear this song. I’ll keep you guys posted when he takes a break from tour that’s long enough for him to respond. That is how deeply I can connect with the lyrics and sections of this song.
    Sincerely,
    ~ Rachel C.

Interdimensional Summit was sort of a let down in a way. But this song is showing me that Dimmu still has it, and they aren't going to let us core fans down.

I've never been a big fan of these guys, but this song was impressive. It's incredibly dark and atmospheric until you reach 3:25. It completely contrasts what we heard through the first 3 minutes and it works beautifully...just absolutely incredible.
The video seems to be about an indian tribe or something. In a few parts in the song, you can hear tribal chanting and at 5:32, you can see someone hitting the old tribal drum used during ceremonies and stuff. I think the music/atmosphere is hinting at them doing something evil during this ceremony thing, but they don't really show enough to give an idea of what their actually trying to do.

Another great review/reaction from you guys!! Love the energy and happy vibes you both bring to the videos. I've genuinely laugh out loud at some of the reactions (or sometimes having seen a video beforehand) wait to see if either of you pick up on something (like Galder from Dimmu's hilarious facial expressions). You guys deserve so many more subs!
Having never really been into black metal (or heavier stuff) much, this new DB material has kinda peaked my interest slightly. Normally I can't get into stuff with non clean vocals or growls.
Since Vileself loves videos with a story, I recommended you guys check out Orpheus Omega recently (part 2).. they have a 3 part trilogy story across 3 videos that's actually kinda cool. Either that or if you want to treat yourself to a total WTF video... anything from Fadades (I still don't know if that guys taking the piss).
Oh and I can't take Johnathon Davis's What it is video seriously anymore after you guys highlighted "the hands" LOL!!

When I FIRST listened to it I honestly felt a little bored by it, but that might've just been my listening mood being out of whack because before that I had been listening to faster songs. Relistening to this with a more neutral perspective made me appreciate the style(s) more. It reminded me of the more progressive tracks from Abrahadabra like Demuiruge Molecule and A Jewel Traced Through Coal, and those are songs I really like.

Regarding the video itself and meaning (aside from the music).
Eonian is conceptually a spiritually occult album. A breath of fresh air since satanism is done ad nauseum.
All four elements are depicted, between the mountains, the oceanic scenes, the grassy plains fluid in the wind, and finally the spinning torches. A big element is the fluidity of time as theyve expressed in their interviews on the album, which is why some of the scenes are played in reverse.
Lyrically hes pursuing occult philosophy and practice, great reference to the ocean in the beginning and "Abyss." Water is primarily the most spiritual of the four elements due to its fluidity and changing currents, often represented by Leviathan (the dragon). Through the abyss (endless chasm of primordial inky water, the subconscious mind), knowledge is attained meditatively or through sleep
Occult practice would see the symbolism, admittedly it would be lost on those that dont practice, as a scenic music video that lacks meaning. The meaning is there, its nothing absolutely enthralling though haha. Any references to departure, and arrival is gained through departure, is leaving the mundane plane toward the astral. The secret flame, essentially is enlightenment, the inner light of knowing and being. The inner spark (luciferian and prometherian reference)
That being said, musically, i like it. Alice in chains intro, Galders fetish with his guitar lmao.
I understand without vortex a choir is necessary for clean passages, i think the middle interlude became slightly redundant vocally. Thankfully saved by Galder in true Galder fashion.
(Btw, when the fuck is a new Old Mans Child ever gonna be released??)
Good track, catchy, melodic as fuck and the keys reminisce older dimmu a bit. It appears as though they were trying to channel enthrone at certain points, but evolved.
Good reaction though!! And, you are correct, it is essentially a journey, and thats exactly what they were going for too

Dimmu Borgir is an esoteric Extreme music culture band...like the seminal progressive post-punk Nuwave Of Talking Heads in late 70s & all of the 80s, sum of the 90s...this exotic music by Dimmu Borgir goes way beyond Black Metal...they are extremely talented and cannot stay within the shackles and confines of one genre...especially something as constricting as Black Metal....after almost 30 years, an artist grows and wants more...they want to explore their options which comes with the kind of success Dimmu Borgir have earned and for their long time fans to expect them to hold themselves back from gaining more out of life is just plain selfish....perhaps Dimmu Borgir want to embrace other styles of music like country, pop, new age, disco, punk, Ethereal/shoegaze, Jazz, tribal/primal, trance/EBM, Industrial, etc....whatever they want to do is fine because they will make it beautiful just like they always have...so please, this message is to the long time fans: Do not abandon Dimmu Borgir...let’s support them no matter what and grow right along with them...when they sweep the Grammys and have a bunch of Top 40 hits, we will feel proud and also learn something about ourselves...that we are maturing and growing up to become fine adults...Dimmu Borgir has helped us do that so we can never turn our backs on them....Dimmu Borgir is forever!

This track is probably their most experimental to date, yet it's also primitive and dark. I agree about the video. Its a bit mundane..

I don't know why people don't like even this show. If you don't likek the band progresive then go and listen to EDT another milion times and die. This song is fucking great. I didn't like Interdimensional summit but this shit is great. Now they are trrying to create some spooking atmosphere and that is kind of black metal I've never heard of and that is great.

WeeklyShock24 Many extreme bands changed during years but some are able to avoid being cheesy.. as D.B became. BTW love or hate.. art is about to provoke an opinion.. and to me this is symphonic metal not black metal.

I’m listening to Dimmu Borgir 1st album & gotta say...this doesn’t feel like Extreme Black Metal to me...it’s far better....it has an almost Celtic & or Scottish vibe...the fast drums sound like polka music if it were more punk & his voice has a “crooner over yonder at ye’ local Pub” vibe...this is so refreshing & uniquely arcane sounding stuff...I am blown away by the diversity of early Dimmu Borgir....you die hard fans must revisit the debut album...let me know if you get the same or at least similar impression...I am very impressed by their early material and you can hear the vastness...that innate quality to grow, ya know...so it makes sense that Dimmu Borgir is transcending beyond Black Metal now...they were always destined to defy all the odds & become this risen Phoenix out of the ashes of stifling Black Metal. These guys will be inducted to the RnR Hall of Fame one day!! You can so hear it even from the very beginning!!!!!

Nice. I was hoping for that black metal riff. This is like 70% buildup and 30% outburst. I like how it's all sweet and dreamy, and than it gets dirty. They do look hilarious as always, but hey, every BM-act does. That Summit thing was too elfish for my taste, leave it at the door. One song like that on an album that sounds like this track, i can handle that. We will see.

In my opinion, the choir slow melody is what fans dont want. Satanic melodic black metal, at break neck speeds, melodious guitar solos and demonic atmosphere. That's all we want. Spiritual black dimensions makes me cream my pants everytime!

I think this song is fuckin awesome despite of some other "trve" dumbass people's comments LOL. And obviously, this song is better than "Interdimensional Summit" but I recognize that song is freakin catchy, especially the melodic chorus. Nevertheless, I have to admit I miss the old Dimmu Borgir members, for example, Mustis and ICS Vortex as well.
I am watching you from Bogotá D.C., Colombia. :D

Well, that wasn´t bad at all. Far more better than the last one (such a blunder), but not wonderful yet. I like the experiments in black metal; Rotting Christ, Behemoth or Nargaroth have released really awesome tracks/albums in the last few years. They have experimented with sounds and thematics and have been great, but Dimmu... not sure. To be honest I'm a bit dissapointed and sad since this is the band which I started to listen metal 18 years ago and is not the "I miss Vortex" affair because I already liked Dimmu without him and it was brutally awesome.

I... don't know... I'm just not real sure about this one. Better than that first song, I'll give it that, but yeah... I think I'll pass on the new album, unless the rest of it is enough to convince me otherwise.
