It took them more than 10 years to finish the last album. Nothing is left to chance when they create a song. They are extremely concerned with details in the music they make, according to what they have stated in interviews.

BTW, you guys might want to check out Satyricon. Another Norwegian Black Metal band, however they are very different., They experiment a lot with their sound, and take risks. Every record is very different.
They even have the worlds most "catchy" black metal song, which actually rocketed through the hits lists in Norway, the song called King. Might want to check it out?
And your drummer might want to search for "Frost Satyricon drumming", there are videos of him just playing drums for people (The drum clinic by FROST from Satyricon). The guy is a brilliant drummer. One of the best in Black Metal.
Phoenix is also a banger, and unquestionably a Satyricon song, even though it's not technically a black metal song.
