Isn't it amazing to be the recipient of a random act of kindness?? I remember when I had my desire to make videos and was interested in a high end selfie stick. I had asked a technical question to someone on TH-cam and he got back to me right away with the answer quickly, but he also said he wanted me to have his. I was taken back but provided my address; inside of a week it was delivered. Roaming Gnome is his TH-cam channel and his kind gesture remains the nicest thing a complete stranger has ever done for me. His only request was to pay it forward. 6 months later I met someone with cancer and made a large donation in honor of Roaming Gnome. The feeling from generosity from a complete stranger is a feeling difficult to describe.
I feel people used to be more generous in general back in the old days before all this digital age... It feels like world is getting drier, commercialized and too individualized, resulting in a cut throat type of world... That act of kindness is something extremely rare to find these days... Good for you that got turned that into another act of kindness, hope that continues to spread... Just subscribed to roaming gnome without even checking out his contents... Lol...
What a small world! Your happy moments give me motivation for traveling and make my heart so warm! Thanks for sharing your stories!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!
the JaYoe Nation oh nope I'm just a random subscriber from Korea! Watched Jeju videos and really liked them all! Thanks for your comment tho! Can't wait to see your next video!
Matt you were talking about your trike and how the younger generation seem to like it better than the older generation. I think the Recumbent Trikes are cool I I own one and I also work in a bike & trike shop where we sell them. and I think it's nice to see other people riding them. and that was a nice random act of kindness for those people to give you that I hope you have a safe trip.
Hi Matt. You are really amazing ... and it amazes me every time I watch your vlog: you show me a world which is so different to my small (German) world and it seems so easy for you to connect to people and make them (and me) laugh and smile. Thank you.
I really miss your Reef updates but watching your Journey is definitely filling the void. Great job so far safe journey and looking forward to the next one.
It's a beautiful thing to see such acts of kindness from complete strangers. Brings back your faith in your fellow man . Can you turn the music volume down on your end when you put the videos together? It's so loud on this end and I have to keep turning my volume up and down, between you talking and the parts where you just have music playing. It's appreciated!!! Looking forward to the start of your Japan tour!! JaYoe!!
so sweet and lovely ladies... when I visited Nara by bicycle, I met groups of old ladies and you know what they gave me bunch of cookies, candies, and a bottle of energy drink...lucky I learned a bit Japanese and can thanks them with proper sentences *D
I'm not particularly well travelled but it has always amazed me how no matter where you go in the world you can share some kind words or a coffee with a stranger and make the world a nicer place.
What a wonderful heart warming meeting with the mother /daughter coffee shop! That was just so great a way to start your vlog! Enjoy your ferry ride, see you tomorrow!
Some of my most memorable times have been when I was travelling to a new place and had 8 hours to kill in a random city or town. But that was a long time ago.
Aweome aerial videoing can you share the type and how you project the flight time and do you have someone else controlling this for you as a team member I just joined your blogs so I haven't gone to watch your other videos yet.Stay Awesome.
Lived in Japan for five years and still make regular trips back. Hokkaido people are quite friendly, honest and hearty, due to, as legend has it, because it was the last great area that was open and yet to be settled by mainland Japanese, aside from the indigenous Ainu aboriginals, of course.
That one of the new "Helicopter Carriers" for the Japanese Self Defence Force. Japan do not have a big aircraft carrier, due to WW2 and issues about Pearl Harbour and that sort of thing. However that ship you saw was recently part of the drama involving the US Navy deploying to South Korea near the start of your journey. By the way, Japan has free wifi in all convenience stores.
Seems just to be a better orientation for what they want to present. A lot of maps in Japan I saw, they rotate it so it would be easier to read and north was almost never on the top (but all the maps had direction of north on the map). In the end such maps confused me more.
I started watching your videos last year and this is probably my favorite so far. Great job and those people seem so friendly. I'm really enjoying Japan.
That is Japanese people for you. I have dreamed of touring Japan by bike since 93 when I was there for a year as a trainee. Lovely people. And very safe. I will do it. Thank you.
Oh man...... this was sooo good. I am in love with that Japanese family already. There are kind people everywhere.... some times it just takes a smile for someone to open up. Ja YOE Mat.
What a wonderful Japanese family!! I love meeting people like that. They are just awesome people! They gave you lucky money? The chinese side of my family always give us lucky money going on a journey.. I guess Japanese do the same?
i have got 10bucks donated by a watcher yesterday while i was playing the saxophone at a park near where i live. seriously it was the first time i ever got from the unknown .in return for you gave me a happiness feeling when you kissed to your daughter Eva. so I would better hand over the donation i got from a lady to you one day if it is available on your petreon account which i have no idea how to work on it.
Right!!! FFS!!!!! Who's the wanker that keeps thumbing down Mats SUPER awesome vids???? A jelous and spiteful 12 year old?? Mentaly for sure!!! Damn!!! These are superb vids!!! Editing on the go!! Superb mate!
just an idea, why don't you insert in the video description the website of place you drink coffee , have lunch/diner or hotel ...(if you like the place that is)
Yes he does, with his wife (Anny) and child (Eva). Matt is an amazing fellow and I've been following him since before he first began his world tour. It's an understatement to say that you have a LOT of catching-up to do. I recommend going back to his earliest videos and then watching them in sequence to the present time. I've learned so much from them and you will too.
Your head is a bit too big on the frame. Gives me a bit of a headache. If you can extend it back maybe even 6 inches it would be better. More comfortable for the viewer and also we get to see just a bit more of your surroundings.
hey matt. i wonder how are you gonna manage to cross a country that has no cyclist culture or roads for it. for example my country panama. it has a steady economic growth but an awful infrastructure for commuters. once you get here i'll contact you. take care love your vlogs.
How did the Japanese transform to these kind human beings considering what they were in the 1940's? Sarcasm in case anyone missed it. People are people , I love kindness. Just witnessing it makes my day.
These Japanese ladies are so so sweet and lovely, I bet they'd love it if you went back with Anny and Eva in the future! Now I have tears, they gave you money! You must email them in future, I'm sure they'd be thrilled to get wee messages from you on the road. You'll be travelling back the same way at the end of the Japan trip yes?
Since you have been on them so often recently, thought that perhaps you would enjoy this delightful new Japanese song about ferries. th-cam.com/video/8eEIMWopA5A/w-d-xo.html
Oh shit yes .. one yuan stuffed in a liquor bottle .. mao you sexy beast (now the question is whether i put an obvious liquor bottle note in my wallet... I wonder if mao would find it disrespectful ... party don't seem to care...

A feelgood video that one. Smiles all round.
this one is one of my favorites... glad you came across it.
I'm going through your journey and enjoying it. Understanding your frustration on being in limbo about when you can hit the road again.
I really miss your Reef updates but watching your Journey is definitely filling the void. Great job so far safe journey and looking forward to the next one.
