    Not to burst your bubble but it looks great. The problem I have is that it is backwards. The flat cut of the tiles is supposed to land on the granite or counter top. The missing hexagons in every sheet is supposed to go to the top since you can see it. I am just saying. Other than that, I feel guilty. I love it.

    Is the Mapei type 1 mastic better than using thin-set?
    Should the first sheet be raised off the counter about 1/8" to allow for a caulk bead?
    I will be using a 2" hex brushed travertine mosaic from Floor & Decor and they tell me that i have to apply sealer before and after grouting. Is that correct?

    • @Christian-cw9mp
      @Christian-cw9mp ปีที่แล้ว

      When you grout, you do a section, and then wipe with a damp sponge in one direction, and one pass, without putting pressure. You dip the sponge in the water and squeeze all the water out, then wipe once in one direction and repeat. If you leave any water in that sponge, it will affect the grout and color and may dig out your grout. This is a first cleaning as you go. Once the grout is hard according to directions, you can use a more wet sponge. You usually do a 3' x 3' area and then do this. In this case, you could do 4' of backsplash, wipe, then 4', then wipe, repeat. This just removes the excess, not the haze.

    What sized notched Trowell would you recommend for those tiles?

    • @martinwalker2501
      @martinwalker2501 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can’t tell for sure, but that looks like a 3/8 trowell. You want enough mortar on the wall so that the tiles stick, but not too much that it bleeds through the space in the mosaics. When it does that you’ll have to go through and clean it out so that you have clear grout lines. Hope that helps.

    How did you cut the smaller pieces???

    • @Christian-cw9mp
      @Christian-cw9mp ปีที่แล้ว

      What I do is I would have a hexagon tile removed from the mesh. I would place the next 12x12 meshed tile next to it and take a large piece of tile or wood and place it on top of the 12x12 and the single hexagon to hold it in place. Then use a 4" grinder with a tile blade and cut the single hexagon in half

    • @Christian-cw9mp
      @Christian-cw9mp ปีที่แล้ว

      You can also line the 12x12 up on your wet tile saw and saw all the end hexagons in half.

      On a marble backsplash, you seal marble before you grout. Once grout and tiles are wiped, you seal again. Grout and marble can use the same sealer.
