But now I really dunno if that's real but what ever it was it made them like little bouncy balls lol I come back and look for deffrent cures and end up watching this video again every year
I watched this video last year and cured my eggs this way and the eggs turned out really well. I took them out of the freezer this year and they were perfect.
Great videos, How would I store these cured eggs after I tie them in spawn net? Fridge, freezer? will they be like a mushy blob after taking out of freezer? Thank you
thanks man - if your not using them right away i store them in small jars in the freezer until im heading out fishing - they usually thaw by the time i get to the creek and they look just like when i first tied them. if you want to store them in the fridge id cover them with borax first
Hi Bill all your video's are great. I'm a relatively new steelhead fishman. Would you also follow this exact process for steelhead eggs? Would you scrape the eggs off the skein first, then water cure then with the river water?
I was started to loose hope. I tried everything and nothing was working. Then I used this method with Canning/ Pickling Salt and the cured eggs turned out amazing!!! Thank you
So I just finished curing and tying some fresh salmon eggs. WOW!! Thus process turned out awesome. Thx for the info. Eggs are firm, natural and tie up beautifully. Can't wait to go try them now!! Thx again! Tight lines

if you dont stream harden them right away theres a chance the eggs get mushy and pop when you tie sacks - too late now but they might be ok - i would just try to salt cure them a bit longer
Mike after you bleed your fish I noticed you river hardened your eggs wich were loose eggs, Question can I just put the egg sacks from the fish in a zip lock bag and river harden them that way then scrape them from the skein when I get back to the motel room and then salt cure them ? thanks.
I've cured with salt & sugar before. Even straight borax. Never tried salt exclusively. I'll have to give this a shot sometime. Thanks for posting this! Great video!
Hey bill 👋, i have a problem with my stream hardening it would be amazing if you could me out, the problem is when i stream harden why does my eggs turn white, what am i doing wrong?
That's very good of you to share your secrets cant wait for your cold weather videos they really keep me going over the months I can only fish thru the ice.

Great video Bill, thx for all the info.i will try this hopefully soon! I have hooked into 3 salmon so far this year at the oak and landed 0. It's ok though I'm still having fun!
I need to find a way to get some eggs. There arent any salmon around here, or at least not in any real numbers to where you can get one if you put in the time. Im curious how trout eggs would work, but id rather stick with what I know and thats salmon eggs. I live about 45 minutes away from the closest erie tributary that gets a run so most bait shops you're just happy if they carry any egg sacks at all so you cant get smaller ones or larger depending on the river conditions
good video sir, I messed up mine again, simple to add water right away was the only problem. I just cured with borax left out to dry for a long time, the company said 2-48hrs, whatever ended up with soft eggs that pop, however they did catch fish. I re-did your way with my eggs and they are much harder, tried the same with the spawn sacs I already made will that work? I will find out soon, sure it can't be any worse. Do you do the same thing curing skein?

Like curing this way as well, question about eggs since I got a bad batch of eggs from a Trout, is it common to get bad eggs? Kind of like skein that is white and several eggs were salmon eggs size so larger, loose eggs were like you had them in the water for half hour they were white, sad and grossed out when I opened up that fish beautiful Brown Trout horrible eggs never seen bad eggs like that, like moldy looking skein, can't explain it but it was disgusting. Never had a problem with fish eggs any species of Trout/Salmon even Sucker eggs I have used for Catfish, never seen such an awful scene, should have taken a picture, maybe fish had a horrible illness.
not that common but ive got salmon with eggs that seemed like they were filled with sand grit and had what looked like little stones in them - i threw them out , also had the oversize salmon eggs that were like mush to the touch
Bill & Mikes Angling Adventures oh ok and I left a few bags in the fridge to tie and after using this method of curing they were really tacky and stickin together is that normal?

Hey Bill, how to you collect the egg? Squish them straight out of the salmon? Or do you clean them from the skein with a spoon? So far what I’ve collected from the skein with the spoon didn’t end up that good:(
I appreciate the video. Informative and straight to the point. I'll be trying this today. Update: I followed these instructions with my own additions (jello as dye for colored eggs) and it was a success. Again, thanks for the clear and straightforward video.
The salt cure method works well for Steelhead eggs as well...I don't stream harden them because my sons and I enjoy them for dinner on occasion. So if I decide to keep a female (most steelhead we do release), I'll remove the eggs during the cleaning/filleting process. Scrape the eggs from the membrane, then add the loose eggs to cold water, and add straight-up table salt. From experience, steelhead seem to prefer their own eggs over everything else. Cannibals!
@@BillMikesAnglingAdventures They're much smaller, 20+ eggs per sack. Over the years my overall catch rate has been higher on steelhead eggs than salmon. I definitely do not condone killing trout for their eggs...only really makes sense if you're planning to keep/eat the fillets (which are very tasty if you enjoy fish/seafood...milder and more tender than salmon, no health advisories that I'm aware of...just don't eat anything out of Burt or the Lower Niagara).
thanks for a great tip. cant wait to used them this week I did your recipe with steelhead eggs. and tie them with chartreuse small bags for local trout fishing taking my 7year old and try them in a good local stream i know with some real nice trouts.. thanks. thanks will keep you posted how did it work.

Hey Bill, how to you collect the egg?
Squish them straight out of the salmon?
Or do you clean them from the skein with a spoon?
So far what I’ve collected from the skein with the spoon didn’t end up that good:(
squish the fish lol - when theyre ready the eggs just start pouring out when its time , never had a lot of luck with the skien spooning
can these eggs be fished as singles?? and not pop???
it makes the eggs tougher but they cant be fished single
thank you so much for this video my eggs turned out great by far the simplest most effective cure I've used
Go to a hobby shop and buy Tulle material. $3.00 buys enough for a lifetime.
Good info....i plan a few trips up this fall and his will help out later in he year!
The master continues to leave the apprentices tidbits.... thanks Bill
You are very welcome👍
I didn't know it was so easy this way, thanks for the information!!
You bet!👍🏻👍🏻
I appreciate the video. Informative and straight to the point. I'll be trying this today.
Update: I followed these instructions with my own additions (jello as dye for colored eggs) and it was a success. Again, thanks for the clear and straightforward video.
sounds good - sometimes i just use food coloring and maybe sprinkle a little borax on them before i store em in the freezer
***** Thanks for the additional tip. I'll try that next time!
You've never had problems with freezer burn from not being vacuum sealed. I dont have a sealer, but most people say they have to be.
i been curing and freezing eggs for 30 years , never had any problem with freezer burn - just make sure you fill the jars or zip lock bags completely
Right on. Thanks for the help.
Great video no nonsense right to the point thanks you saved my eggs!
Glad it helped!👍🏼
Thanks for sharing, great method.
thanks
@@BillMikesAnglingAdventures I do charters out of Erie,PA and fish the tribs. Your egg info is tremendous. Thanks again.
Cannibals!
i never tried it with steelie eggs - good to know
@@BillMikesAnglingAdventures They're much smaller, 20+ eggs per sack. Over the years my overall catch rate has been higher on steelhead eggs than salmon. I definitely do not condone killing trout for their eggs...only really makes sense if you're planning to keep/eat the fillets (which are very tasty if you enjoy fish/seafood...milder and more tender than salmon, no health advisories that I'm aware of...just don't eat anything out of Burt or the Lower Niagara).
thanks for a great tip. cant wait to used them this week I did your recipe with steelhead eggs. and tie them with chartreuse small bags for local trout fishing taking my 7year old and try them in a good local stream i know with some real nice trouts.. thanks. thanks will keep you posted how did it work.
do you do the same process for steelhead and brown eggs?
same for brown eggs too

Thanks buddy, I've tried all sorts of cures but haven't had much success besides the brown sugar, borax, salt brine. Haven't tried using just salt, but I shall thanks again.
Excellent tip my friend, ..thanks for that, love the vid.
Thank you sir
I forgot about mine for 9 hours will they still be okay ?
they might be - i forgot and left some curing overnight and they worked great
nice video Billy, very educational!!!! thanks a lot
There a technique called spooning, look it up. You pretty much use a spoon to separate the egs.
Thanks
👍👍
Can anyone tell me how too make the salmon eggs into a paste ?
🤣😂
