www.weddingdjsp... busy day @ melbourne wedding show. plenty of tips and suggestions for mobile djs plus some entertainment from Liquid Infusion www.weddingdjsp...
All great advice. I don't play music at a wedding or bridal show. I know the last time the other dj company was cranking out the tunes and we still had way more people over talking to us and taking bookings. I really love the star cloth. Gotta realize that many brides are single moms or common law type deals and they bring their small kids along and guess what, the kids will go towards the sparkling lights. Its all a matter of creating as many oppertunities 2 start a conversation as you can.
John, I've done Wedding expos before, and find they can be good for business BUT you need also to make them a networking execersise and meet with venues and other service providors.
As for the price, you got to delay that as long as you can. I have a policy that I will not issue a quote till I have talked to a potential client for at least 5-10 minutes and 15 on the phone and it DOES work. If the bride won't even give me 2 minutes then she isn't worth giving a quote to since she will go cheaper anyway.
at least all of our 1.5 hours setting up was well spent. that other dude's setup looks like he just came in on Sunday and threw it togheter then and why would he play music?!?! there was already ambient music being played. and i did see the Mobile Bar service on sat but thats some wacked out tricks. and dam were those chocies good. i should have eaten them all :P. and i think u could of had the other LED mover on it only drew 1A and all the other stalls were allmost useing nothing
i didnt take bookings on the day, didnt want to spend 2 much time with 1 person , uknow wat i mean?? i did have a card made up as a show special free uplighting . only 100 cards tho. if there is more than 1 person on ur stand then u could take bookings i spose . i was by myself
so I have a question. This was your first show right? Im doing my first show in a month and I was wondering how many poeple did you book as a result of this specific Expo? (were they on the sport or follow ups?) Thank!

The fact there was only 2 DJs there was obviously benificial to you, as they're likely to book you.
