I wish I had done more extracurriculars, I moved to Canada from China to go to high school and honestly at the beginning I had no idea how important extracurriculars would be and how much they matter in applying for universities. I got involved in a few clubs but never paid much attention to them. Now I'm in grade 11 and realizing how much more I would have done if I knew in grade 9 and 10 how the Canadian University Application process worked. Blaming myself for not doing enough research and thinking ahead. :(
I graduated from high school in 2015 but I absolutely agree about English. I worked so hard to only get an 84 back then. And it must be worse now since grade inflation is so high + cheating back when there were online classes. Science is a BIT more fair because it’s based on the lecture and textbook content. Easier if you have past tests. But there was always that one teacher who put in more difficult questions. Some teachers also offered retests or extra credit while others didn’t. I’ve heard of students who got a high average in English like 100% and clearly they sucked up or charmed the teacher.
All u have to do is not to stress and acc understand the material you’re learning. Doesn’t matter how many good notes u take, if u don’t understand it they’ll be useless. AND stress is another key factor. Stressing while test taking will acc ruin ur chances on getting any 100s. Control your breathing and you’ll be fine. Another helpful tip is to listen to calming (study music) while studying or doing homework so u make sure to stay stressfree during tests. ANDDDD if u don’t get something always ask a teacher as many questions as u have until u have a solid foundation. Watch TH-cam videos, do anything so u make sure u understand!!! Best of luck to youuuu!
Thank you for you video. Most helpful. For the Plan my gam year in Ghana, did you travel on your own or with a parent? Did it feel safe? Would a first year university student female be ok to go on their own or with a friend?
Sorry, I provided the information incorrectly in my earlier edits, but anyway the reason she was able to apply is because in previous years it was open to students of all backgrounds. However, the current quota is only temporary and students of all backgrounds should be able to apply for next year.
Hi, I’m going into high school next year but I’m stuck between if I should take AP courses or IB courses. They’re each at different schools and I can’t decide which one I should take. Any tips please for which one I should take?
Hannah Menhel I think so. I’m not too sure about the AP curriculum, but IB has a lot of content from first year uni. IB also allows you to have opportunities where you develop great life and academic skills (work management, networking, research). As I said, I’m not too knowledged on the AP curriculum, but from what I experienced, I really enjoyed IB.
Not really, but health sciences prepare u a little bit better for med school compared to life sci, but overall it's not that big of a deal. And getting into health sci doesn't 100% guarantee you will get into med school, so I would say you have an equal chance of still getting into med school either way
Not really getting into med student is mostly dependent on your ability to keep your grades high in tougher university level courses + doing research, volunteering and relevant extra curriculars. But I’ve heard it’s easier to get higher grades in health Canada and there’s more group based assignments
I tend to participate a lot during class and am pretty confident with my presentation skills, I think that’s why my teacher advocated for me and got me the invite
I need help. I want to apply for health sci for universities. I work and my grades are low 80s and up. What universities can I apply for? I know elite universities will be super hard and close to impossible to get into but I need alot of help.
Hi I’m An International Student and I want to apply the Mac health sci but I don’t have Much Extracurriculars do you think it’s worth applying? Thanks for your feedback
Not at all! Physics in uni isn’t required by most med schools and I know a bunch of health sci kids who didn’t take physics and don’t plan on doing so in uni. However, if you do choose to take physics in uni, there’s a designated introductory physics course (atleast I know at McMaster there is) that’s meant for people who didn’t take physics in highschool☺️
What if you don’t have any awards, do you think I still have a shot. Also my school only provides Ap calculus, which I’m going to do 😬🙂I really want to get into the school. I’m form Saskatchewan btw 😁thank you.
McMaster health sci doesn't ask for awards or extracurriculars! (though I talked about my experience in Ghana for one of the questions). Not having a lot of AP classes or awards won't affect your chances of getting in so don't worry about that. Just try and get your GPA as high as possible and spend lots of time on the supplementary application.
Holy crap dude, I'm actually shocked by your grades. Honestly, the only mark that I think is good about my Grade 12 (Which I finished last semester) is Math which is 95. People are just bred differently. Wow, just wow.

LOVING IT. Can’t wait for your next videos.
Could you do a video about how you got 90 in G12 chem? As in studying tips, routines you followed, note taking strategies etc.
On the application submission day, do we answer the option of our choice or do they randomly pick a question out of the ones provided?
I mean you got a 97 and you’ve done everything out there to be done, you shouldn’t be surprised. Good for you :)

Awesome video man!!! 🥰
geeez, you are amazing!!!!!!! quick question, how did you study for the waterloo math contests?
I'm at an overall 94 do you think that’s enough for life sci at UofT
Yes of course! A 94 will get you into pretty much every life sci program in Ontario.
A friend of mine went there and she completely regrets it all i don't suggest that option but if u think it is good for u then thats great 👍
