  • I have been recording conversations between scientists, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and artists as a part of a continuing film project.
In 2015, ideas curator Lakshmi Pratury brought great change-makers together for the INK Talks conference in Mumbai.
In the hotel lobby, I paired people who didn’t know each other, together, for candid freewheeling conversations. I offered them only three cues - the self, the ecosystem, and the future of humans.
In one such exchange, actor Irrfan and entrepreneurs Asha Jadeja, Sunny Singh, and Anu Aga shared insights with each other.
While this is yet to be edited for the final film, the following raw edit is being released as a tribute to the great actor as I remember him - a vast, compassionate, rational, and graceful seeker of truth.
    ----
(Excerpt from a work-in-progress production, produced by Zain Memon, directed by Anand Gandhi for Memesys Studios
Shot on location at Grand Hyatt, Mumbai, in collaboration with INK Talks

Yesterday, I read Sutapa mam's tweet, she said the actor always used to find gain in everything and after going through this video I realised she was right when she said there is a gain in his departure. The multi dimensional view point and saying we Indians looking for role models. I rightly agree with his points. We are taking spirituality in a different direction. We have been fighting on having best spiritualism in the world even without knowing the half of it. The more we know about it the more is unknown to know. I gained from his death...I gained his attitude to do the right thing even if others aren't doing because right is right even if zero person is doing it. Wrong is wrong even if all of them are doing. Thanks a ton for uploading this video and I wish we could have more videos featuring the young mind with grey hairs. 🙂

This showed up on my TH-cam feed. I knew it would be a gem. But did not feel ready to watch it. Wasn't sure that I could bear another reminder that he is no more. Now, I am so glad I watched it. And glad we have his words to help us heal through what so many of us experience as a personal loss (despite having had no direct connect) His words, the freedom he talks about, the embracing of uncertainty, the recognition of being part of the creation and therefore inherently incapable of/inadequate in a way to perceive the whole.... Words that can shatter and yet liberate too... Opening up our minds to a dimension where he exists, not as only his memories, but as a part of us... Where we are not truly separate, but only a perceivable separate part of an ever evolving whole. You live on...

This is how you grieve near and dear ones... I have been questioning life after death and the entire evening I read up on near death experiences and what is that talks about continuation of life after this is over...a concept which is more inclusive beyond religious beliefs and I heard it from the man himself...Thank you, am so grateful for this.

Man! why aren’t there more meaningful conversations like this than the gossip and glamor Indian cinema portrays! I could watch him speak forever. Irfan sir is so profound and knowledgeable, not like the rest just busy on social media and craving the limelight ... Miss him dearly 😇 RIP!

These free-reeling 18 minutes captured unique reflections by Irfan Khan than any of the carefully constructed interviews. What a joy to be part of someone's examination of the existentialist questions life poses for us all. Thank you for the video and more for the share.

I saw this because of Irfan Khan. I never thought that so randomly I can see this kind of conversation on TH-cam. I mean it was no natural and realistic, especially the body language of each and every person those are involved in it. Each line I listened repeatedly and it gives an idea how human beings fr different origin and work came together in a conversation as well as put that much on table within few minutes.
Moreover in my whole life I never feel so much affected which I am feeling from last few days for the lose of a gem from this world, Irfan Khan. The innocence he had in his soul is something which is entirely lost in Human of this era. I mean it is very difficult to gain that much of access towards unconsciousness of life and it's unpredictability, which he was able to.
Further after listening four of them I realises one think for sure and that is the unpredictability of life. Nothing is more superior than each breath we are taking in write now. It is true that human being is a species which is far curious than any other in tha planet to know more and more, but it is completely unnecessary to do so. As it is really important to value what we have not to what we don't. We have a perfect biologically evolved body and breath to be alive, planet to live, food to eat, as well as people and civilizations to grow with. I think it is enough for us. Just live the moment instead of non utilisation of it. The borders, boundaries, caste, cultures, politics, economics and so on are just hypothetical assumptions made by various group of humans and spreaded over like a virus. It is more dangerous than any other virus o diseases. I mean first we have to step back and calm down to understand real self, a self which is in the form of inner soul and must have to understand why we are doing what we do. Just relax and calm down, see the world it's still there, see the nature it's still there, see the species it's still there, nobody is running but just and only we are those are running, for what? we don't have a specific answer to it. We must have to learn again about our importance or importance of same other human beings, and just have to live and breath in a way it has to be.
Otherwise near to the end of a life, one can realise it's real importance, so why not now - To Live and Breath.
I don't know what i am doing here and writing, it hurts to see what we are doing as life is very short.
Lovely to meet you again Mr. Irfan Khan.
And thank you Mr. #AnandGandhi who shared this amazing raw video. It is so lovely as it raw and not edited. Thank you🙏💕

Everyone knows how philosophical and how spiritually inclined Irrfan was. But I had become a fan of Anand Gandhi after the Ship ob Theseus and more after his interview together with Anubhav Sinha. He is well read and expresses his ideas so eloquently. I just wish the ideas come to life.

What a wonderful sneak peek into the mind and thoughts of Irrfan. I hope he went in peace and that his soul finds peace in the afterlife. Thank you for sharing this gem with us, Anand. Looking forward to the rest of it now.
P.S. came across someone else’s comment here about his flight being a metaphor for his death - that left us wanting more. How beautifully put.

I learnt about Irrfan's demise today. I remember watching one of his movies i.e. Life Of Pi. He was a good actor and I am sure he also made his country proud. I now want to know more about his work... I wish he were given more work in Hollywood... Then maybe I would have known him better while he was still alive as himself. Now... He is still alive in the memories of his loved ones. Thank you for this video.

Felt like he was speaking what I feel inside but only more wisely. He had a lifetime of experience in seeing life. He played his role with the same experience and played like no one could. Irrfan you were the only thread that kept me linked with bollywood. Without you that thread is gone. May you find peace wherever you are. I hope your family have enough strength to bear your loss. RIP.
