Flute was actually really fun because we didn't play our instruments for the battle part, we got to beat on little ice cream boxes and tubs, it was a lot of fun, like extra percussionists.
Liang Xin Yu Definitely, this was my favorite song to play in all my years of being in band. That's saying a lot, because I've played some really incredible pieces before, but this one just stood out. Perfection.
funny how i have been looking for this off and on for the past 13-15 years and literally as soon as the first measure was done i knew i found what i was looking for!!!!!
Probably one of the best second clarinet parts out there. It wasn’t a knock off version of the firsts, we had our own sections to lead and was definitely very very fun to play
We played this, and the second flutes were like, "Can we play the first flute part...????" with big adorable :P eyes, and the teacher finally agreed, and I absolutely LOVE THIS
Seeing the comments on this song makes me smile in nostalgia. I played this song in Middle School back in 2004, as a trombone player. What an amazing piece of music!
Im playing this piece for my last school band performance ever. I love the french horn 1 part (ive never seen the horn 2 part as the person who plays that hasnt been there for the past 4 rehearsals). Every time we play this in rehearsal, at 2:12 at least 1 person jumps out of their seat from the unexpected drum, which I struggle to contain my laughter at.
Was going to play this for my 8th grade concert but it was canceled the day of because of covid worries. Now I'm a sophomore and I still come back to listen to this me and my twin sister both had solos too I was trumpet hers was piccolo.
@@nataliepruitt4374 You can do it! Just practice the rhythm over and over until you start recognizing a pattern. Take a pair of drumsticks around with you so you can play the rhythm on rocks, pillows, boxes, or anything you have nearby. It'll soon become muscle memory and feel like second nature. Once you learn it, you won't forget it! I played this during sophomore year of high school, and now, at 26, I still remember it clearly.
Played this song at my summer band camp this past August. In my state it was 85 degrees plus outside everyday, and we practiced in an open pavilion. Every time we played this song I would end up losing about half my water weight from all the energy I exerted. Best feeling ever🙂
I've gone threw a good amount of comments and havent really caught any from a percussionist. So I'm just gonna go ahead and say playing timpani was extremely fun for this song.
I was in the state honours ensemble program as a percussionist and our conductor gave us this piece to play. When I heard there was a Tom Tom part, I immediately asked for it, because I pretty much LOVE that instrument. And as I looked at it I knew I was up for a challenge :P I loved this song and I wish I can do it again
I remember in 6th grade we played this song with the high school, and it was a little out of our bands league still, so it was super hard to learn for us, especially since when we played it in class my teacher made me play the trumpet solo near the end, even though one of the high schooolers was going to that, but it was so satisfying when we actually got it down
Played this with my 8th grade band in '98. Played the bass drum but wished I could play the snare drum part. I'll always love the brass interchange in the third "change" and of course the cannon ending.
My band won our state competition with this song, i cant tell you how much i enjoyed playing this and listening to it. We couldnt have picked a better piece!
this is one of the songs we're playing for my last concert ( i'm sadly a senior ) and the clarinets get to beat in big 5 gallon buckets , the concerts tomorrow! so wish me luck!!!
I LOVE This song! i played it when i was in 8th grade last year and i was the one playing the 1st clarinet solo. by far my favorite song of the year. and at the beginning, the woodwinds played the drum part with small hand drums:)
We're playing this on sunday in Middlesbrough town hall and Toccata in D minor, I'm the first clarinet with the solo-ish bits. Saying i'm scared is an understatment
God I loved this song... Was playing second flute in it. Buckets are too much fun to drum on. Wish I had been playing french horn for this one though, being totally a brass feature 'n all.
I played this back in high school. Oddly enough, the version we had actually had a DUET between the piccolo (which gets the solo near the end) and me on the baritone of all things. It was hard work not overpowering her.
I played it at band camp (summer, 2016), it was fun! My favorite piece. It has a lot of strong dynamics, although we had 6 days, it was really good! Battle and Dancing are my favorite movements!
I played Snare Drum on this song before. Although it is 90 something measures of the same thing, this song had a great beat to it. It was fun as our flutes and clarinets played the extra drums in the beginning.
Sounds exactly like the way my high school band played this piece. I shit you not this sounds identical to us. Love how the drums are heard, almost felt, throughout the entire battle section. Very nice job on the lament section too. Could use just a tad more dynamic swell in my opinion. Overall, fantastic piece to listen to :)
Trumpet 1 is great. But I’m in 8th grade and the “Dancing” section, my conductor takes it way too fast, and it’s hard to tongue, but it’s a great piece
thanks for uploading this! it sounds more awesome than i thought, cause the beginning of my part (i play clarinet), it didn't make sense to me why the music wanted us to clap or what. thanks! btw can i request another song? it's called carriage town overture by robert longfield. we sightread that in class and it was awesome but i can't find a recording of it.
My bands playing this tonight and let me tell you, the flutes take up two rows of the band. And he expects us too play softly so no one can hear us. -.-''
this makes our band sound bad. compared to how we played it, this King across the water was sick the whole song. i can imagine it now, the king stumbling along with his men in the "Battle" section, trying to get his rest in "Lament," then sitting down, wheezing excessively and coughing, while watching everyone else dance and have a good time during "Dance". THAT is the imagery that would go along with my school band playing "The King Across the Water".
Flute was actually really fun because we didn't play our instruments for the battle part, we got to beat on little ice cream boxes and tubs, it was a lot of fun, like extra percussionists.
Wow that's cool...
Liang Xin Yu Definitely, this was my favorite song to play in all my years of being in band. That's saying a lot, because I've played some really incredible pieces before, but this one just stood out. Perfection.
YES, OH MY GOD I REMEMBER THAT FROM LIKE 4 YEARS AGO!
Yeah I play clarinet and we use hand drums
Thats what my bands doing too
this song hold too many memories for me, ever time i hear it want to start dancing and crying at the same time.
Euphonium
When we first ran through this in band rehearsal, I jumped out of my seat at 2:13. I was right in front of the drums, too......

Trumpet is the best🎺🎺🎺
I have the first trumpet solo its AWESOME!!!!
Seeing the comments on this song makes me smile in nostalgia. I played this song in Middle School back in 2004, as a trombone player. What an amazing piece of music!
I'm going to play it as a 7th grader in spring, anything I should know
Im playing this piece for my last school band performance ever.
Such a good piece and such a fun first clarinet part... It's a miracle
Joe Mason YES
That was my part!
All this these old songs I used to play in highschool band bring back so much nostalgia.
Was going to play this for my 8th grade concert but it was canceled the day of because of covid worries. Now I'm a sophomore and I still come back to listen to this me and my twin sister both had solos too I was trumpet hers was piccolo.
Played this in band last year, been in love with it ever since. Did percussion for a tom and the snare drum. Definitely a memorable song. :)
+Mikey Blake me too!
Help meeeeee I'm scared I'm the only one going to be on Tom and the only on the rhythm in the beginning I'm scared Im more of a mallet percussionist

Played this in probably 2005ish. French horn. One of my favorite concert band songs we ever played, so much fun!!!!
Played this song at my summer band camp this past August. In my state it was 85 degrees plus outside everyday, and we practiced in an open pavilion. Every time we played this song I would end up losing about half my water weight from all the energy I exerted. Best feeling ever🙂
We just played this for our early spring concert and next week at festival. Bari Sax FTW!
Played this song my 8th grade year. I love it, bro. Brings back great memories and I get super nostalgic while listening to it. 1st clarinets babyyyy
The 1st trumpet soli in "Dancing" is great
Ned Whitesell same with first clarinet
i love this trumpet solo! I just played this for all county!
I've gone threw a good amount of comments and havent really caught any from a percussionist. So I'm just gonna go ahead and say playing timpani was extremely fun for this song.
Ajchap2278 I had timpani too! Definitely one of the best parts I’ve had in a while
through*
Agreed
Ajchap2278 I’m a percussionist who got stuck on the tambour part for clarinet three because we didn’t have anyone playing that
@@the_polish_prince8966 that's depressing

This is my marching show for this year :D
Oof hello fam
Got to play trombone, and getting the green light to unleash the full power of the trombone for the first time in a long time was euphorious
Trumpet 2 all the way! Such a fun piece to play
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

Trombone part for me. Great memories.

What a brilliant piece of music. I think this is my favorite recording of it. Bruce must be conducting, is he?
Playing this on baritone. My second favorite piece only behind star trek
Also playing dance twice; first time normally, second time in Scottish
ghaithoghaitho oh haha I was like Whoah that's what we're doing! It turns out that you're ghaith. XD
***** lolz forever :D

our middle school band is playing this, it's so much fun.
Thanks for posting a good quality recording of this! Was not expecting to find one!
Trombone on this was quite fun, you get to be loud, but too bad I couldn't go molto blasto ;)
As a tuba, its really not fun to sit next to all four giant timpani, a bass drum, and field drums for the first ten measures of this song :D
Man I feel bad for you tho, cause I play Timpani on this 😭
We're playing this on sunday in Middlesbrough town hall and Toccata in D minor, I'm the first clarinet with the solo-ish bits. Saying i'm scared is an understatment
Percussion 1 on this is honestly one of the best parts I've played
I remeber playing this is 8th grade. Our band didnt have enough percussion so us winds got to play on buckets under our seats lol
Percussionist!!! omg loved playin this song on the lead tom(s). im sry but this song gives me chills and an adreneline rush >:) the power of music!!!
God I loved this song... Was playing second flute in it. Buckets are too much fun to drum on.
Wish I had been playing french horn for this one though, being totally a brass feature 'n all.
Omg I miss playing this piece so much....
Im a clarinet. LOVE the part where are the woodwinds are playing with percussion :)
I hate to say it but I played this with my band as 1st Trumpet and it was an experience I will never forget.
It was so fun learning to play this for my Shirwood youth band camp in seventh grade!

@@nicholassheldon8638 I agree, however this was by far the most fun band piece.
@@thateuphonium4350 agreed. It was definitely the best piece in the concert.
Our Orchester plays the Drums at the Beginning with plastic flowerpots ;))
It´s very funny^^
Great Song!!!
I played this back in high school. Oddly enough, the version we had actually had a DUET between the piccolo (which gets the solo near the end) and me on the baritone of all things. It was hard work not overpowering her.
Same here, they both sounded really good together ironically
Let’s go. Baritone is the best but since we only have 3 baritones, were all playing the part
Same here
Excited to be playing this for our March concert, especially on the baritone/euphonium part! :)
My french horn section finally got to show everyone how necessary and not laughable we were.
Was so excited to play this for LGPE.
Tuba part sooo good!
I played it at band camp (summer, 2016), it was fun! My favorite piece. It has a lot of strong dynamics, although we had 6 days, it was really good! Battle and Dancing are my favorite movements!

Hey, French horn part on this is really fun too. It has an amazing melody especially in the Lament part (quiet part) really fun

Trumpet 1 is great. But I’m in 8th grade and the “Dancing” section, my conductor takes it way too fast, and it’s hard to tongue, but it’s a great piece
@daswilddrewdey Thats how fast you're supposed to play it, the tempo is on the sheet music
Our band played this today using flute/clarinet cases as drums.
We played this for Hershey park. There was only 6 clarinets. 1-1st, 2-2nds, 3-3rds.
Ryan and I were at the same one, I dunno how he found my comment though. But yeah, I doubt all three of us were at that camp

@AlanOswaldCastro it is a piccolo solo. At bar 132. Don't say things you don't know.
