    The purpose for dual power supplies in equipment is so you can run from two separate power sources. When that isn't an option and you're utilizing a UPS, I would suggest just plugging a single PSU into the wall and the other into the UPS. This could increase your on-battery time, however, I haven't tested it myself. I don't have two sources of power in my house but in a datacenter environment, each PSU would be connected to independent power sources. My current set up starts at the main power panel to the house. I installed two dedicated circuits for the server rack. Equipment with dual PSU's are plugged into circuit A while the PSU is plugged into circuit B. The second PSU is plugged into the UPS. For critical hardware with single PSU's I have them plugged either into the UPS directly or into a PDU plugged into the UPS. This solves the issue if something trips the breaker.

      @@hulkhatepunybanner In a home environment yes, there is always a compromise. If your goal is surge protection then yeah, plug them both into the UPS. If your goal is longer battery life in a power event, then split the PSU's. I have installed a whole home surge protector on my electrical panel so my risk is minimal.

      Depends on power company. Some don't like the generator as it can backfeed into the power lines and cause an electrical hazard for linesmen. You need a mains isolator of some sort. So get a proper company to install it and not do it yourself.

    Hey Stefano, thanks for showing this unit. I normally use APC gear but decided to give this one a try and I'll have it in Tuesday so it was nice to get a little preview.
    Small pro-tip for next time, which you may know, but a standard rack unit (U) is three of the square holes. By starting at hole 3 (top hole of first unit) instead of hole 4 (bottom of second unit) you'll eventually have lost TWO units of rack space IF you fill the rack to the top. Totally not an issue for a home rig but something to consider even in a home rack if it's small in size or dense with gear. This is one reason I favor rack rails that are numbered for each U so it's easy to spot front and back what unit I'm in and then also to make sure I always optimize my units.
    Also, nice recovery at 2:52 on getting those cage nuts in with the nut inside the rack. :) I'm curious, did Cyberpower only include 3 or did the dog sneak by and slurp up the fourth?

    • @SPXLabs
      @SPXLabs  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I normally want to buy APC but cyberpower is always on sale. I've had both in the workplace and seen no real difference in quality. I think you will be happy with it especially for the price.
      I literally just learned/made the connection that 1u is 3 holes. I think I figured where to start with the holes a bit too late but you are hella right. I'm just glad I have a baby rack. I really really wish the rack was numbered. I've been spoiled for so long!
      Hahaha, I don't even know why those two cage nuts were backwards. I'm pretty sure I had some grand plan but changed my mind. I'm pretty sure the dog is eating my screws, cage nuts, bolts, etc. Things keep disappearing. But for this video I think I decided not to use what came with ups and ended up using different cage nuts all together.
      Thanks for watching and good eye/s!

      Dead Detail Entertainment the documentation doesn’t mention that in particular, however it will probably be safe so long as the power conditioner provides the proper amperage and voltage. However, the documentation explicitly says not to use extension cables which typically do not regulate power. This ups is able to “condition” power on its own and does not need a conditioner itself. Personally, I would just plug mine into a PDU or straight to the wall.

    You lose redundancy that way. If you have one ups, then you connect one PSU behind that one and the other one just normally to wall socket. Better if you have two UPS and they are behind of those ones. But newer both behind the same one. Now when your UPS get broken you server will shutdown. If you have them one in UPS and one live, then it doesnt matter if electricity goes down or UPS gets broken your server still runs.
    But have to say this is maybe most common mistake that you can see in server rooms.
