  • Kevin Lee chose to make Southern Utah home for his violin-making business because of the excellent climate for curing wood and drying glue and varnish.

    So very beautiful... I'm 46 ,really wanting to get a violin and teach myself how to play my very first instrument. It's something I truly feel in my soul I will one day accomplish. Your violins are absolutely beautiful,breathtaking as I'm a lover of fine wood the smell the color and your art work on them match the beauty of the wood. Thank you for sharing

    Thank you for the very rellavant vidio on exterminating horse hair mites!. I am hoping to try the procedure. I know the damage these pests cause! They gobble up bow hairs like pirrahanas! Ive had them before. Supposedly dont shut your case and the light will kill them. Im very protective of my violins and would rather keep the case closed with the instrument.inside. ive heard camphor protects fine artidt brushes so may go wholeistic route. Raid doesnt particularly smell good. Thank you for this vidio!

    I have a vintage violin that someone did a terrible job in re-varnishing
    it. I would like to salvage it and remove the varnish and try doing a better job.
    Any advise on how to removing the old varnish ? Thanks

    • @mistyabels8192
      @mistyabels8192 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      most of the times varnisch can be removed with high spirit alcohol 96% if the varnish is schellack

      Get it to a good luthier and make him/her do it. Instruments are pretty fragile and the wrong treatment could ruin it completely.

    I find it hilarious how some people are outraged about the decorated Violins like its some kind of sacrilege. You people are aware that even Stradivarius painted some of his instruments? It has been done for hundreds of years and is nothing new.

      TheExplodingChipmunk A violin maker from lobg ago put pictures on his violins. They looked almost like tattoos. I thought it was odd, and unnecessary, but the art was pretty.

      Bach Do it's called ink work it goes back very far in fiddle and violin craftsmanship. This particular style is just more artistic that what we see on most violins. This is not purfling, but a series of ink lines. In many cases, it may resemble purfling in patterns, but it is not. Again, this version is still far more artistic than usual.

      He built it.. Now if he was scribbling on a Guarneri or even a Chinese Stentor , I'd agree with you.

      Go to a music museum or Google baroque instruments, its only 'modern' symphonic instruments that don't have it plus he's not exactly putting a soldering iron over a Strad now is he?! :o)

    What is that bullshit about Utah climate?

    • @diagosman6452
      @diagosman6452 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rogério Costa, I don’t know anything about violin making but maybe it’s because Utah’s climate is really freaking dry, (like it’s terrible here) so maybe the glue sets faster here?

    • @wolfie8748
      @wolfie8748 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No because the threes are more dry.

    • @iotaje1
      @iotaje1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wood moves with changes in humidity and temperature, and the wood used for furniture or instrument making has to be air dried toroughly, which can take many many years if the climate is a little too humid. A relatively dry, stable climate is best.

    Anyone who would put such a tacky drawing on the violin is not a master violin maker.

      Are you joking? He is a master of the highest degree! Did you ever see Nicolo Amatis decorative violins or Strads?
      Did you notice the beautiful aged woods Mr Lee uses? He also is one of the few masters left that uses oil varnish which is a very difficult process. His gorgeous purflings and imaginative, artistic f-holes. They also sound magnificent. And the art work is beautiful ( I have no idea what your seeing)!!
      The only problem I see with Mr. Lee is that his prices are to low. He is as good as Sam Zygmuntowicz IMO but his starting price is half of Sams.If I were younger I would not hesitate to purchase one of his masterpieces.
      Look on his site at the Mermaid violin and the unbelievable Clay Angel ( look at the back of that violin). He is also a true gentleman and very generous with his time, teaching the history of the violin and how to play a violin and so on. Certainly one of the finest luthiers in the World today. They are future museum pieces.His violins were also appraised by one of the finest appraisers in the World. Jacques Francois ( and Jacques doesn't waste his time with just anyone). I could look at that piece all day and wish I owned it.

    Was this a violin clip or add for southern Utah bank....why the would you go to all that effort in making a violin then destroy with drawings 🤔🤔🤔😳😳😳😱😱😱😱

  • @pepperco100

    Any luthier is suspect when he is so vulgar as to crudely draw on a violin as if were a 1950s toy red Roy Rogers guitar.
