- In this next installation I showcase Mamas Jerk in Canary Wharf. Mamas Jerk is a Caribbean restaurant with three locations at the time of this recording: Canary Wharf, Brixton and Deptford. Mamas Jerk story begins from the late Mama Charlotte who was referred to as Mama in her home town of Mandeville Manchester in Jamaica. Here she developed a secret bbq rub that would be passed down as a family secret. Essentially Mamas Jerk honours here memory and keeps her original recipes alive for all to enjoy.
On this occasion I tried the Biriyadi which is a Caribbean take on the Biriyani. This came with salad, jerk chicken and fried plantain.

I dunno Riley I think I’d scare you if you saw me when I’m feeling Caribbean food. I eat about 3 times that. Jerk pork jerk chicken curry goat coleslaw rice n peas plantain saltfish. I don’t mess about bruv 😂

Riley Serola three little birds, buster mantis and mango room (Camden ) Come to mind. But I’ll be honest, for me Caribbean food isn’t at its best when it’s put into a fine dining menu. Same with Indian or Italian. I think it’s at its best when rustic or home cooked style. I tend to find a reliable take away run by family that’s been there for years esp where the customers are predominately from the Caribbean, that way you know it’s authentic. Not a fan of these new age themed restaurants that cater for the British pallet
@@kenshiro6961 I agree a lot to the comments you make. That raw home grown food is authentic and the best. Having said that, there is one fine dine Indian ive been to that I was very impressed with called quilon. There was another called moti mohal that was family run but they retired. Sad because it was my very favourite

What you mean, once in a while you do come across impressive high end places like Babor that take you by surprise. I guess generally speaking tho I just prefer regular places

Yeh the food is a lot. I just came from the Deptford branch now and I am stuffed. £8 well spent
Rah, i'm surprised at the size of the portion, glad to see they serve a fresh decent salad.
I've heard mixed reviews about their restaurant in Deptford, think i'm going to have to head down and try it out myself.
In the Caribbean we pronounce roti as row-tea.

GRTV I’ll be honest. See the shake shack review you saw the other week. I had that just before this 😂😂😂. In all honesty I could have finished it but it’s not nice having that bloated feeling whilst lugging camera equipment all over the place. Thanks for watching bro 👊🏾

The few times I have eaten at mama jerks I found the chicken to be cooked well and pretty succulent. I just find their take on the jerk marinade they use to not quite do it for me. I think you summed it up pretty well, not amazing, just pretty good.

Riley Serola yh was canary , the chicken needed sauce/gravy jerk sauce, i got order from deliveroo , they don't do jerk sauce it's only BBQ , it's as if they drained the chicken and chucked the nice juice away, but the chillie dip is banging
realtalk see that’s where I think you went wrong. I’ve had some of my favourite places reduced to mediocre or worse. In my opinion most places are not Deliveroo friendly. I would suggest dining in there instead.
