zambia had a great team in the 90’s and lost them in a plane crash in Gabon and they came to the same gabon with this young squad to win their first ever african cup,i’m not zambian but i was really happy for them
I was at work (warehouse worker) and was listening to a podcast by a famous Swedsh football journalist Erik Niva about Zambia 2012 which I knew nothing about untill that day at work,, and as I was listening all that came out through the airpod to my ear, I got soooo into it, and the moment when Zambia won the ACON, I was near to tears. Zambia is, from that moment on, my favourite football nation after Bosnia and Herzegovinam and Sweden (Because I was Born in Bosnia and living in Sweden). and I will always support them whenever they play.
This is the last game... that my father and I watched together... because he died very soon after! So many... so many memories! One phenomenal tournament and one unforgettable Zambia that never played like this after that!

A warrior tribe, this Zambian team was. And what they have accomplished is immense! And watching Sunzu singing while taking the last few steps before that final penalty, made the hair on the back of my neck stand up! Such a moving moment, especially when knowing the sad story with the doomed plane crashing just a few kilometers away from the CAN final venue, some 19 years ago(at the time). I mean, this is a fairy tale, the ultimate redemption story. Well done Zambia, you thoroughly deserved to win this.
i am not zambian but that last penalty kick brings tears to my eyes...even though i had watched this over and over again...such a Cinderella story indeed
Our team that crushed was one of Africa's finest at the time on the verge of qualifying for our first WC then the disaster happened :( All the coaches and players on the plane dead. Lucky one of our best players Kalushya Bwalya wasn't in the plane and with him and one or two others that weren't in the plane another strong team was formed that reached the afcon final the following year only to lose 2-1 to Nigeria, and haters say Zambia's got no history. Fantastic performances by Zambia in games leading up to the final. No one rated them at all but the way they delt way with the likes of Senegal was well and truly refreshing, the team enjoyed the challenge of being the underdog. Did get outplayed for most of the final but totally deserved to win it. My player of the tournament was Kalaba.

I am linked to Ivoiry Coast in many many many ways but that night i was 300% behind Zambia.. i had tears in my eyes and still do watching this today as I prayed God healed the pain of the whole country, parents who lost souls few kms away from that spot.. even if Zambia never managed again to be back into the finals .. it does not matter anymore.. the souls are now in peace... emotional moment
glad zambia won, this would have been unfair with the penalty to reshoot for zambia, which was completely a legit penalty (all keepers need to advance a little on a penalty kick to avoid knocking the post with their head as they dive). congratulation zambia !!
25/07/21 @01:07AM and I'm here! I remember this night vividly! Got sent to bed early because I had school the next day and as a 6th grader, I had no right to dispute and with a broken heart, I resigned to my bedroom. Little did I know that my mother's agonized screams would rouse me late into the night. Overwhelmed by sleep, I staggered from my room to the living room and alas, there she was, sweat drenched and desperately positioned on the couch armrest, defying gravity and laws of physics. It took me a few seconds to realize she was accompanied by our landlord's grand son and the commentator's voice only brought me back to reality after "Now, Sunzu is the man!" boomed through my senses. It then clicked that I had been seated in a half-sleep state and had witnessed the penalty shoot outs... Behold, Sunzu scored and believe me when I say, the whole country shook!! My mother was in tears, our landlord's grandson carried her and swung her around and then did the same to me before he shot through the door and disappeared into the night, only to reappear in the afternoon. I get goosebumps whenever I watch or think about this, I still did while typing!! God did it for us, thanks be to Him. I went to school in the morning and was amongst the less than five pupils who reported in the entire school! One Zambia, one nation! Long live Chipolopolo! 🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲❤️❤️❤️

That was a great win for Zambian football, i recall the battles Uganda Cranes had with those Zambian team of the 70's led by the Chanda brothers. May their deceased players continue to rest in peace.
I am from Kenya and I love Zambia so much. This match is still fresh in my memory..

I'm from Poland, but I watched almost every game from this cup of African nation on Eurosport. I remember I supported Zambia from the very beginning, I don't know why, I kinda liked them. So sad that Eurosport doesn't longer show African Nations Cup, at least in my country :(

2022 watching this and it still made my heart beat like it's 2012 what a happy moment it was...👌
Fantastic performances by Zambia in games leading up to the final. No one rated them at all but the way they delt way with the likes of Senegal was well and truly refreshing, the team enjoyed the challenge of being the underdog. Did get outplayed for most of the final but totally deserved to win it. My player of the tournament was Kalaba.
Le plus beau match et la meilleure finale de la CAN en émotion et suspens! J'avais gagné mon pari de téléphone +100$ ce jour-ci. Merci Zambia de Kalaba
Enfin quelqu'un qui parle en français ici..merci..

Zambia's manager is the same manager of Saudi Arabia who beat Argentina in the 2022 World Cup. Incredible manager.

glad zambia won, this would have been unfair with the penalty to reshoot for zambia, which was completely a legit penalty (all keepers need to advance a little on a penalty kick to avoid knocking the post with their head as they dive). congratulation zambia !!

What a masterpiece,10/10 👍
