Got some good info on this one Afran! Thanks for taking the time to teach while fishing. I have only fished SD bay once and didn't have my downscanner with me and wasn't using heavy enough tackle and was fishing it more like mission bay. Next time I'll bring the finder and fish more vertically. Great vid!
Some areas fish very similar to MB. SD Bay is so big, there are so many spots to fish, wide variety of structure and depths. It takes more effort to fish. I'll plan to either fish deep or shallow in SD Bay to keep my mind from spinning. See you out there!
so I'm just starting to kayak fish I live in San Diego and don't really know to many spots, although now that I watched this video I can most likely catch fish. Thank You
WARBAITS I totally get it. Have u ever thought of experimenting with buzzbaits in the harbor? I feel like there would be a lot of demand if u guys made those things and if they worked in places like mission or San Diego
Buzzbaits work great calico. They will probably work great in shallower waters, less then 6ft. I hear if you add a fluke to the buzz bait, it's more effective in Salt.
I like fishing that part of the bay but man it's a struggle with the boat traffic and fighting fish without a pedal drive. Lost a good fish (was pulling my yak) near that coast guard area. Would have to put the rod in holder and peddle backwards with my paddle.
Hello, What area did you use to get on the the water? Being a local to San Diego, this piece of info would be very helpful to me and I am sure to others. Great video. Keep up the good work.
Visit Dana Landings Tackle or Fisherman's Tackle when you're down here. They have everything you need. I suggest some swimbaits, a drop shot and a crank bait of some sort. Good luck!
i thought we were only allowed to fish/cast 3 artificial lures/troll or fake fish lures at a timeper pole/line... any others hooks added to it would make it illegal.. am i right or am i wrong? i wanted to buy an umbrella rig but i dont know the laws very well.. just trying to clear things up in my mind.thanks... very fun .thanks for sharing.
For California, 3 hooks in freshwater is the law. 5 hooks or more in saltwater. Saltwater laws are different than fresh. This is my understanding of the law, Contact DFG for proper regulations. "Can full Alabama rigs be legally fished in ocean waters? (Zack P., Santa Barbara) Answer: While in freshwater lakes and Delta waters the Alabama rig must be modified (only three hooks total allowed rather than the standard five), in ocean waters no modifications are required. "
I like the Damiki Back Drop. It has a flutter fall like a leaf falling from a tree. Sometimes fluttering and sometimes sailing through the water until it catches an edge and turns directions. I fish these a lot for Yellowtail. Most of the time they hit it before the jig hits the bottom. On reference to the Jiparas, I like this jig. I haven't fished it a ton, but it works great.
Hi Afran, first off thanks for all of your detail in ur vids. Helps a lot. Just wondering where u launched from here? Not trying to blow up the spot but any help with launches from North SD bay will be greatly appreciated! I haven't launched from shore yet and that looks like a cool, mellow launch. Love your vids! Tight lines.
I launch from the Shelter Island beach area, near the launch ramp. It's a commonly used launch for kayaks. Good place to meet other kayakers as well. See you out there. Afran
WARBAITS FISHING thanks for the reply! I will look into launching there. Thanks for the fish finder tips too! Thanks for showing us how u do it! U kinda make it look easy. Lol. Much appreciated!
"Can full Alabama rigs be legally fished in ocean waters? (Zack P., Santa Barbara) Answer: While in freshwater lakes and Delta waters the Alabama rig must be modified (only three hooks total allowed rather than the standard five), in ocean waters no modifications are required. "
I like all the Lowrance products because they a SUPER user friendly. Easy to use and accurate. The Hook 4 or 5 are great for the money. I use a Hook 5 on my PA and a Hook 7 on my boat. Great picture quality
Nice video. Sometimes I wonder how the San Diego Bay and other's fisheries even survive with all those sea lions. Each has to eat 30lbs. of fish daily to survive.
So far so good.Cast great, great drag. I was the reels out with fresh water after every use. Still smooth. This is the second month fishing them in salt.
Structure is key with all fish. Anywhere you can visually see structure, envision the structure continuing underwater. Also, use your fish finder to find bait, structure or fish. Docks are a great place to hunts spotties. Thanks!
Check out Tacklewarehouse.com. They have a good variety of baits. The ARig is an effective tool, they can be pricey fully loaded, but it's worth having. During this trip, I did get my Arig snagged on some nasty structure and broke it off. But remember, you have to fish were the fish live and that's in the junk. I ended up buying a new flashier Arig, next video
I suggest fishing visual structures such as; piers, pilings, any rocks, docks. Or shallow areas you think there might be eel grass. In the way back of the bay, it's a grass flat 8-12ft and fishes similar to mission bay
My understanding of the DFGW CALIFORNIA Regs: 3 hooks Max for Freshwater. 5 Hooks for Saltwater (if you choose) Unless fishing for Rock Fish. But always check with your local DFGW for more information.
For California, 3 hooks in freshwater is the law. 5 hooks or more in saltwater (UNLESS ROCK FISHING). Saltwater laws are different than fresh. This is my understanding of the law, Contact DFG for proper regulations.
Great question. For two years, I fished the Abu Garcia Pro Max ($79) in saltwater. Now I'm fishing the Abu Garcia Rexo X in salt ($99). A good rod is something in the 7ft range with a Medium Heavy power. Look for an all around rod. Remember, saltwater will eventually destroy any reel. It's mostly the ball bearings that go bad in the reel and they can be replaced.
I almost feel like I'm cheating when I catch fish on the troll but I get a lot that way. It drives the shore fishermen nuts when you do it in front of them.
i love how in the dead of winter when the freshwater action slows down, the baybass and calicos are always active and hungry
I can always count on a spottie for one bite at the bay. Great fishery
I love that you upload so much. All the fishing channels that I watch upload ~1-2 months
I'm trying to be more consistent. Thanks for the support

that structure "with alot of stuff on it" = alot of lures and dropper loop rigs XD. Love watching your vids Afran
My ARig is in that junk as well. Lost it making another pass over the structure
thats it im going kayak fishing :D
Heck yeah!
Ayeee Rodney!
Enjoy your videos, im always learning and break it down easy.Thaks alot!
Thanks for the support!
Awesome. I just got one of your new hats for my son. He is loving the camo dad hat.
Hi Ryan! Thank you for the support -Afran
so I'm just starting to kayak fish I live in San Diego and don't really know to many spots, although now that I watched this video I can most likely catch fish. Thank You
Good luck out there! I'm glad you started kayak fishing
Your slaying over those bass...awesome vid..
Thanks Nelson
Great video yet again. Like the change of scenery!
Thanks. I started kayak fishing on SD Bay first (before MB). I've always liked the variety of fish and the challenge of the different structures
WARBAITS I totally get it. Have u ever thought of experimenting with buzzbaits in the harbor? I feel like there would be a lot of demand if u guys made those things and if they worked in places like mission or San Diego

That is a great haul Afran! Bait barge double X2!
So much fun with doubles. thanks!
A bad day of fishing is still better than a good day at the office .
This is true!
A rig = Assassination rig.... sick edit once again brotha!
Perfect!
Hey Afran! Ever think about bringing back your "electric" purple warbaits heads? Halibut are suckers for the color purple.
Electric will hopefully be here for Fred Hall 2018
Sweet!
I like fishing that part of the bay but man it's a struggle with the boat traffic and fighting fish without a pedal drive. Lost a good fish (was pulling my yak) near that coast guard area. Would have to put the rod in holder and peddle backwards with my paddle.
The Hobie Mirage Peddle drive is key. Demo a model, it will free up your hands and make kayak fishing 100% easier
Dude! Great vid! Love the A-Rig! Definitely my next tackle investment! 😍
It's a very useful tool for finding fish. Thanks!
Awesome video
By the way, I just checked your website. Thanks for adding painted weedless underspins!
Thanks! More to come through the next few months.
Love your videos! Fish ON!!!
Thank you!
Great video! What was the name of that a rig with the 4 blades and one stinger in the middle? Looked juicy
Hello,
What area did you use to get on the the water?
Being a local to San Diego, this piece of info would be very helpful to me and I am sure to others. Great video. Keep up the good work.
I launch at Shelter Island boat ramp area, the small beach
Heading to san diego at the end of the month. doing a half day on a charter. may do some shore fishing. anything i should buy as tackle?
Visit Dana Landings Tackle or Fisherman's Tackle when you're down here. They have everything you need. I suggest some swimbaits, a drop shot and a crank bait of some sort. Good luck!
Andrew Mechelke underspin is the juice. Fish the bay like a lake

awesome.. ill giveit a try soon enough thanks for the info
Hey Afran what kind what fish attractant gel do you I sometimes see you use on your videos? Thanks
I'm using Pro Cure or Hot Sauce right now. Thanks!
What rod and reel did you use to catch the calico on the back drop
That was a REVO X and Ritual Angling 7'6"MH
would you say that flutter jig is better than any of the jigparas? because I've had tons of success with those.
I haven't fished it a ton, but it works great.
ok, yeah the jigpara standard have the same kind of action. Was just wondering an opinion cause I'm always looking for new lures to test. thanks!

WARBAITS FISHING thanks for the reply! I will look into launching there. Thanks for the fish finder tips too! Thanks for showing us how u do it! U kinda make it look easy. Lol. Much appreciated!
Coronado Island?? Is that where you were fishing??
San Diego Bay
I got to try that rig.
Great video
Thank you!
Nice video man
Thank you Joe!
Hey Afran, what rod is that with the twisted guides and the camo grip?
That rod is a 7'6"H custom wrapped blank I picked up at a tackle show. Not sure of the brand, it came from a bargain bin. Thanks for the support!
it's called an acid wrap
Hey brotha what A rig are you using? I can’t find it in your bio. I had a booyah a rig but it sucks lol
I mostly fish these ARigs. So far very sturdy bit.ly/2mfI9dh
What are your favorite fresh water spots in sd? What do you use?
I like to torture myself, so I fish Miramar mostly. San V is my second favorite location. Thanks!
Does that A rig have 5 hooks? I thought you could only have 3 in California.
For California, 3 hooks in freshwater, 5 for saltwater. This is my understanding of the law, Contact DFG for proper regulations.
"Can full Alabama rigs be legally fished in ocean waters? (Zack P., Santa Barbara)
Answer: While in freshwater lakes and Delta waters the Alabama rig must be modified (only three hooks total allowed rather than the standard five), in ocean waters no modifications are required. "
Hey how did you get your go pro mounted in the rod holder?
In this video, I used a modified Ram Arm Mount in the rod holder
are there rules when kayaking in the bay? are there invisible lanes that you cannot cross?
There are some rules online. But wear or have your life vest. Small craft moves out of the way of the bigger craft
Do you like your Lowrance Hook 4?
I like all the Lowrance products because they a SUPER user friendly. Easy to use and accurate. The Hook 4 or 5 are great for the money. I use a Hook 5 on my PA and a Hook 7 on my boat. Great picture quality
Nice video. Sometimes I wonder how the San Diego Bay and other's fisheries even survive with all those sea lions. Each has to eat 30lbs. of fish daily to survive.
I agree. There are a ton of Seals and Sealions
How has that Revo X been holding up in the salt?
So far so good.Cast great, great drag. I was the reels out with fresh water after every use. Still smooth. This is the second month fishing them in salt.
Where do you think the fish stage this time of year until like june
Being spotties and sandies
Structure is key with all fish. Anywhere you can visually see structure, envision the structure continuing underwater. Also, use your fish finder to find bait, structure or fish. Docks are a great place to hunts spotties. Thanks!
Will you fish Long Beach ca ? Would love your intell. FISH ON bro
I'll fish in LB, but most likely saltwater later in the year
Any suggestions on a good yet easy on the wallet setup for A rigs
Check out Tacklewarehouse.com. They have a good variety of baits. The ARig is an effective tool, they can be pricey fully loaded, but it's worth having. During this trip, I did get my Arig snagged on some nasty structure and broke it off. But remember, you have to fish were the fish live and that's in the junk. thank you man love the baits and vids keep doing wat ur doing
Thanks!
what is that alabama rig that only has 1 stinger and 5 teasers?
Yes, The bait at the end of the video.
WARBAITS FISHING what is it called? i want to get one...
Caught my PB halibut near a bait barge
Congrats!
Where do you launch at in San Diego Bay
Shelter Island, the beach to the west. www.portofsandiego.org/projects/shelter-island-boat-launch
Thank you
What color on the Damiki backdrop?
www.tacklewarehouse.com/Damiki_Back_Drop_Spoon_20g/descpage-DBDS.html
what swim baits were those on the A rig
These are MANO Swimbaits 3.25". We sell them on our website. Thanks!
Wish i had one warbait.
If I have a yak but no graphics or fish finder is there any way to find productive areas to fish in San Diego bay?
I suggest fishing visual structures such as; piers, pilings, any rocks, docks. Or shallow areas you think there might be eel grass. In the way back of the bay, it's a grass flat 8-12ft and fishes similar to mission bay
WARBAITS alright thanks man! I’ll give it a shot
When fishing bottom like you did you are allowed only 2 hooks. Those extra hooks will cost you sooner or later.
My understanding of the DFGW CALIFORNIA Regs:
3 hooks Max for Freshwater.
5 Hooks for Saltwater (if you choose) Unless fishing for Rock Fish.
But always check with your local DFGW for more information.
What area in the bay was that at?
SDBay front of the mouth
Wait so can you use three or five hooks in so cal ocean? I'm confuzzed
For California, 3 hooks in freshwater is the law. 5 hooks or more in saltwater (UNLESS ROCK FISHING). Saltwater laws are different than fresh. This is my understanding of the law, Contact DFG for proper regulations.
Can you send me a lat and long on that spot? Is that the bait barge?
What's a good cheap saltwater bait casting setup?
NATE WILLIAMS OUTDOORS daiwa lexa wn are pretty cheap right now.
Great question. For two years, I fished the Abu Garcia Pro Max ($79) in saltwater. Now I'm fishing the Abu Garcia Rexo X in salt ($99). A good rod is something in the 7ft range with a Medium Heavy power. Look for an all around rod. Remember, saltwater will eventually destroy any reel. how do you fish an iron for bass???
Surface Iron: Fast, steady retrieve. Heavy Iron: Yoyo or jigging off the bottom
Is the A rig a Yum Flash mob?
It's a Warbaits ARig. We don't sell them at this time. The Flash Mob is a great rig too.
WARBAITS Well get on it man! I need to give you my money!
I got to pick me up an Alabama rig.
Definitely something useful to have in the box. Good luck!
I almost feel like I'm cheating when I catch fish on the troll but I get a lot that way. It drives the shore fishermen nuts when you do it in front of them.
I troll to find the fish....
Where do they sell that damiki iron ?
Nvm got it in the description lol
www.tacklewarehouse.com/Damiki_Back_Drop_Spoon_20g/descpage-DBDS.html
I found the BACK DROP here.
I need to figure out how to fish San Diego Bay from my sailboat.
San Diego is a fishy place. If you're anchored, you can always send out a line with fresh cut bait
Bro the coast guard pressed me for fishing by those docks
Same here. That's why I was trolling there, keeping it moving. I definitely do not stop and fish the docks. Thanks!
What's a nice kayak that's under $300
Under $300, I suggest checking Craigslist. It can be done. My first kayak was used, $450
👌🏼👌🏼💯💯💯
Thanks!
You might as well have bought a little boat..
Why do you say this?
Yewww first comment
Thanks!
