It's been a while since we've posted a video and we're excited to show the progress in the garden at our favourite time of year, early June. The peonies, alliums and roses are in bloom. Our kitchen garden is now flanked with a new patio area and the vision we had for a secret fountain garden we created last year is coming to life!
Apologies for the abrupt end to this video, my phone battery died and I'm still learning the technology. I hope to have it sorted for the next video. Thanks for your understanding!

“The garden with blooming flowers is truly fantastic.”
Thank you! It’s such a beautiful time of year.
Thanks for sharing! Beautiful garden!
Thank you!
Charlie is adorable and your garden, oh my so lovely! the blooms! Pretty pastels! I love your videos
So kind of you, thank you! Charlie is the best garden companion (although the squirrels may think otherwise!).
Oh my gosh everything is just just beautiful in your garden. I loved it so much. Hi puppy would think all 12 months for the beautiful just different. Nothings better than a wonderful cottage garden.
Your garden is really lovely -- you've given me some ideas for re-working my garden (yikes, I did it again!), my planting bed has become over-crowded and I've been pondering what to do to give everything more space. If you choose to paint the shed, the color of your house is excellent.
Thank you for your kind words and good luck with your garden! And indeed, the plan is to paint it the house colours!
Greetings from across the water! We live in West Vancouver near the water. Congrats on getting peaches. I guess you've heard that the Okanagan isn't getting much or any this year. They really got cold last winter. I love your garden. You two are super pro. I don't have veggies - not sure if I've got enough sun, except in the front garden where I just put a parterre. I've always wanted one and a 5.5' Douglas Fir had to be taken out, so I made my dream come true. (Not quite at dream level, but we'll get there!)and I don't have a cutting garden. I have a hard time taking flowers away to bring in the house, but I love it when the kids send me some! The real sun gets the lavender, because I love it so much. I'm rambling, but I'm glad your video popped up.Thanks for sharing. PS I too have those unnamed peonies that were here when I arrived.
Thank you so much for your comment! I too struggled with cutting flowers from my garden until last year when I made a dedicate space for cut flowers. Now I cut with abandon and make several arrangements a week, some for me, some for family and friends. The joy is brings is immeasurable! And yes, I'm also so surprised by how many peaches we have this year as they typically don't perform well here unless under shelter. I also adore lavender! Best wishes to you.
@suzetteccc - I just remembered the name of that peony variety: Sarah Bernhardt!
Fellow Islander here I’m presuming your in Victoria, I’m in the Cowichan Valley . Your garden is beautiful, so happy to find your channel . Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.💐
Thank you so much and how lovely to connect with an Islander! Indeed, we're in Victoria. The Cowichan Valley is stunning.
Oh my gosh I love your cottage garden. It is just beautiful. Love the cute little doggie running around too. He’s enjoying the garden. Also thanks for sharing so many beautiful pathways leading to so many beautiful roses and other plants. Oh my gosh, the color popping up with that Rosie, yellow and pink breathtakingly beautiful and all your other beautiful flowers you have the posies are beautiful to the irises loved wonderful so many beautiful flowers in your garden. Oh I wish my garden looked half as pretty as yours but I’m working on it.
Wow, thank you so much for your generous comments, they made my day! And I agree, nothing better than a beautiful cottage garden.
I garden in Lower Mainland with a micro climate of zone 7b
Will never dare to try growing peach in my place, but peach flowers are so beautiful 😍
Thanks for your comment! It's so true, peaches don't typically do well in our region unless under cover, but we've someone managed to harvest a few each year, with this year being the best. It's against a south facing wall so I assume that helps. And I totally agree, peach blossoms are stunning. :)
Lovely garden! Paint your shed 👍
Thank you! I’m leaning towards painting it, appreciate your comment!
Im very interested in your sweet peas. When did you plant them--and did you start them inside and then transplant or direct seed? I live in Northwest Oregon so I think your climate is very much like mine. Your garden looks to be at about the same stage as mine. Nice little garden! Second question is: When did you subdivide all those peonies? I have one that needs to be moved and I would definitely subdivide if I could!
Hi Judy, thanks for your comments! I sowed my sweet peas end of January and kept them under grow lights indoors until they were about 3 inches tall, then they were pinched and transferred to our unheated greenhouse. I planted them out around the 3rd week in April if memory serves (have to check my garden journal). My key to keeping them going for a long season is just as Monty Don suggests - I remove every stem with open blooms once a week for bouquets and make sure I remove any seed pods as soon as I see them, until the heat really sets in and I know they are going to be done. As for the Sarah Bernhardt peony, I divided it in early Spring just as the shoots were appearing but before any leaves were out. It does take at least a couple of year before they flower again but it was well worth the investment of time for how many blooms I get off of my 9 plants now! I hope your garden is treating you well this season. Best wishes.
@@manorgarden Ok thanks! Great advice on the sweet peas. I hear so much conflicting advice about them! I can get them going outdoors by direct seeding in April/May but then they just do not last as our heat hits immediately the first of July and they all bolt to seed so I get so little blooms even though I try keeping them cut and yes, taking all seed pods off. Lets face it, 100 degrees is not conducive to sweet peas so they have to be growing much earlier than I have been able to do so far. Going to try your method this next winter! Thanks!
Beautiful garden 😘❤️
Thank you so much, Martha!
Beautiful looking natural garden, Its the bees knees.
Thank you, Nicholas, it's such a joy to work in, we're very lucky.
Just stunning!
Thank you, Cass, that made my day! A labour of love for sure.
Gorgeous❤
So kind, thank you, Tanya!
Beautiful!!
Thanks so much, Karen!
Just found your channel and I must say what a magical garden you have! Never seen a rododendron tree like that. Wow! On a different note I also wanted to mention (in case you did not know) that larkspur is poisonous so just be sure to not get it mixed in with your bluberries 🙂
Thank you so much, Ida Marie! It does feel magical this time of year. I love our rhodos too, we limbed up the purple one several years ago into a tree form. I appreciate you sharing about the larkspur, I didn't know they were poisonous and will take extra caution when we harvest our delicious blueberries!
So gorgeous!! What are the non-flowering plants in the front of your garden?
Thanks so much @health.bites.5615! Are you referring to those under the rhododendron (in bloom with purple flowers) at the start of the video? We've surrounded that garden with green velvet boxwood and under-planted the rhodo with hostas (I'd have to check which variety) and heuchera.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🌱🌱🌱🌱👏👏👏👏👏👏Praha
Pretty, I think you need a mic low volume
Thank you! And indeed, my tech is not great at the moment, will have a new phone for the next video and look into a mic.
Paint or stain the shed.
Thanks, Helen! Will definitely either paint or stain it this summer.
I would suggest not painting the potting shed - looks lovely!
Thank you!
