Relaxed, cool, effortless genius. But enough about me... I love the way you do theory lessons and I'm looking forward to some leisurely noodling to the backing track putting it into practice, learning the scales and how to use them well with the aid of the examples in the PDF.
I think you missed off a fair few adjectives describing yourself there! 😂😂 Really glad you like this lesson. That new scale diagram feature is cool from Guitar Pro.
@@SpedSpedding I thought I'd stick to some of the ones we have in common. Now I've had some time to play around with it I'm hooked. After all these years I'm convinced I need to learn, practice and become totally fluent in more than one scale pattern. Obvious really. The comment re the significance of B and Bb notes in the different G chords is very enlightening.
If you’ve just started I’d definitely rewind and start with the basics. You’d wanna at least know your major and pentatonic scales before going on to this!
Hi Sped I liked the details of how the chords mesh with the licks . Your explanation is detailed and precise . I would enjoy more videos of this nature . All the best 💪
Harmonic minor makes sense now.. thank you.. totally get it.. been mostly noodling with minor pent with additional notes from the 'natural' minor scale thrown in for interest... so going to try to throw in the Mj7 when on the major 5/Dom chord.. very cool.. very very cool..
You got it Mike! There’s a wealth of backing tracks online with the chord progression moving on screen. When you spot that chord in the mix you know what you can bring melodically now.
Brilliant! First two chords of Hotel sum this up- the major 3rd or A# of the F# chord= leading tone of bm. Great use of it also in the first solo. It really takes an intermediate player's solos up a notch! Cheers Sped!
Thanks Sped! Appreciate you helping me piece these things together. Clear and concise as always. Take it easy in the gym dude! You just need enough muscle to lift your guitar 🎸
@@SpedSpedding Thanks man. Been down and out for a bit but trying to snap out of it. Looking forward to the new video. Gotta find the right thumbnail to appease the great and powerful TH-cam Algorithm God, right? 😂
New subscriber here. Some seriously good content here Sped. I'll mostly watch lessons as I have enough gear (at least that's what I get told ("how about you learn to play before you buy anymore gear"). Harsh, but fair given I have 6 electric guitars and spend most of my practice time noodling. I'm still pretty new in my theory journey so I really liked how clearly you've explained this topic. Presumably the leading tone is used in other genres as well?
That's so good to hear! And yeah GAS is real that's why I didn't buy any pedals for a few years and I've tended to mod what I've got than just go out any buy new. My example was very much in the slow moody blues genre but yeah you find this happening in many more.
@@SpedSpedding you truly always have the most interesting moody lighting. I got my degree at university in fine arts, cinematography, so I'm probably one of the few people conscious of it but all viewers are impacted by the lighting. They may not notice, but their brain does.
hey men ! i'm working on this scale, i just want to know the backing track you use on both exemples, if we can find it somewhere ? thanks to you :) i love the sound by the way :)
Thank you! I just put that track together in about 5 minutes for this video. It loops around for like 10 minutes. It’s in my patreon with the lesson materials. 🙌🏻
Hey, I’d watch it again a few more times as all the reasoning is in there. If you’re still unsure consider watching my music theory playlist as well. There’s links to the tab in the video and the description also. 🙌🏻

Just started guitar at 59 yrs old. The concepts are creating sonic booms as they whiz past my head. Enjoy your obvious dedication to teaching :-)

You’re welcome!
Haha, yeah you’re right. It’d be nice to be able to lift all of them at once though… 🤘🏻😏
Brilliant as always. Thanks Sped. 🤘
You’re welcome man! Good to hear from you as ever. Dropping a video later. Just need a thumbnail. 😂

I never really got my head around where to use the harmonic minor- Until now that is ! Thanks for another awesome lesson on this mate
Absolutely love that Robert! So cool you’ve finally got your head around it. ❤️
So much taste n note choice perfect.
Thank you Joe! ❤️
Your tone is superb as always, fantastic lesson. Love the theory and the explanation of how to use it in context.
Thank you David! Really appreciate that. Glad you found it useful.
Man this is awesome!!! That’s the weakest part of my playing or soloing I should say.. playing over the correct chord and knowing where it would be.
Thank you for watching! So great that you enjoyed this and found it useful. 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Legendary Lesson as always! Thanks for everything Sped
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
Thanks, great lesson! It also sounds nice at the Cm chord!
You’re welcome Lars, glad you liked the lesson! 🙏🏻
I needed some of this in my life. Thank you sped 😎
You’re welcome Jake! Let me know how you get on.
That was really helpful, thank you .
You’re most welcome!

Very cool stuff Sped! Every time I hear a harmonic scale I'm waiting for a Jeanie to come on out of a bottle LOL! ( Ya... sick sense of humor I know )
Haha, I guess the west has paired that scale with every cinematic moment including a genie and or a snake charmer. We’ve been conditioned. 😂🐍
@@SpedSpedding lol pretty much man!
Enjoyed your lesson today. Good Stuff! Your track reminded me of Triumph’s (Rik Emmett) Epilogue from the Never Surrender album. Thanks!
Thanks Nicholas, and you’re welcome! Not familiar with that track but will check it out.
Love your content. So helpful
Thank you! Really glad you found it helpful!
groovy!! great lesson thx man
My pleasure!
Just as I was getting into playing grateful dead and santana jam band stuff, great!!!!!
I’ve been spying on you again. 😏
GREAT lesson. Much thanks

Please teach me how to play D'yer Mak'er !!!!
Thx allot but I don’t get it. Is it possible and I know it’s more work, to make it with tabs ?

Thank you! 🙏🏻
Very slash sounding
Yeah he uses this scale a lot. It’s in the big run from SCOM. 🙌🏻
And I can feel the “Since I’ve been loving you” vibe
It sounds a lot like Santana style phrasing
He uses it a lot. One of the first Santana songs I ever heard was Smooth. I was like “Ouh what’s this?” 🏝
Yesss that song is too tasty.
Sounds like Gary Moore
Big compliment that! Incredible player. ❤️
