    like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, th-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

    I think this would be worth it if the light strip had its own sync software built in and connected to your TV via USB or something but not many people have Macs or PCs connected to their TVs so requiring an already very expensive Sync Box on top of a very expensive light strip makes it a no for me

    I read that the way the Hue sync box is able to update fast enough is by delaying the picture a little bit, and syncing to the delayed picture.
    Did you try any gaming? Could you? I'm curious how bad the lag is.

      I use FreeSync ultimate on my Samsung TV. I did have weird and annoying issues initially with the sync box when it launched. My screen would go black constantly when I played games. To remedy it I turned FreeSync ultimate off and recently re-enabled it. So I'm not sure if it was fixed with an update or not. It works great now.

      I had alot of dropped signals to my Switch and PS4 Pro in the first few months of use. It would be a critical cutscene or something, then Prnnnt..
      My console cables were fairly new and in fine shape, as far as I could tell. I also was using the provided hdmi cable that came with the Sync for Output.
      I ordered a few of the following to replace the Output and Ps4 Pro hdmi cabling, and have had little to zero drops since.

    Good thing about it is it is being recognized as one device, hue sync box can take up to 10 I heard. I am currently at 8 and still considering going two more play bars which ends up at 10, with that I won't be able to add a strip that wanted to place under my couch. I might just get this new strip and get rid of all play bars from behind a TV. Also, in my opinion, best effect is when you add hue signe on both sides, these are just mind blowing. Great video by the way

    I have been waiting for something like this from Philips for such a long time. I have spent a ridiculous about of money on Hue lights but I do thoroughly enjoy them. Although this light strip will be yet another absurd amount of money I will def be getting it. I tried using seven play bars around the back of my 75 inch tv along with the sync box, and although it works okay it is very difficult to try and position the seven play bars around the tv when creating an entertainment area in the Hue app. I really hoped they would add something to the Hue app to where it shows a front or rear view of a TV so you can position the play bars more accurately, but I guess the gradient light strip is their solution. Either way I love Philips products although yes they are insanely expensive. But if they work well and they actually last a long time then I am okay paying good money for things.

    Stumbled upon this vid whilst searching for the gradient strip. What I did for my 65 inch; placed the gradient strip as usual. For the dark bottom part I used 3 play bars (left mid right). I used the V-brackets that came with the bars to stick them to the back of the TV. They face straight to the wall behind. The intensity difference was really annoying just like in this video. I "solved" this by setting the strip and bars on a static color at 100% brightness. Next I adjusted the hight of the bars (bit by bit about 10 centimeters total) upwards until intensity looked the same. It looks like a 360 gradient strip now. Really happy with this set-up. Maybe your screen is too close to the wall for this to work though... but who knows it might work for you as well.

    Thanks for the review. Since the gradient lightstrip will not support 120" projector screens, what is the recommendation folks have to get the best experience for this setup? We watch movies and play games with big sound and lots of explosions, lol. I'm putting in a home theater and have the hue sync box (but not tied to it if there are better options), I'm trying to make the experience as immersive as possible in the room and would like some feedback, what would you do?

  • @Master-mm1dm
    @Master-mm1dm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice demo but to get this effect using the Philips Gradient Lightstrip can work out to be costly when you add up the price of the lightstrip, the hue bridge & the hue sync box the whole setup will cost you around £500+. The cheaper option is to just buy a Philips Hue Ambilight TV. I have the 65PUS8204 which will cost you arond £500 with three sided ambilights, Dolby Vison/atmos is built in. Any thing left in your budget can be put to a few extra Hue lamps to go in the corners of the room for an even extra added effect but you will need the hue brdge for any extra bulbs to work with the TV.

    Myself I didn't change nothing. I have reset Philips Ambilight+Hue configuration a few times and final message says I'm ready to go but still not working.
    In the last I used to see in the Hue app that the lights were under the TV control and I could only disconnect them from TV. Now instead they seem all free to adjust from the app.

    This setup is wonderful looking, nice work on it! Are you just using a soundbar instead of a receiver for running your setup? Our receiver takes all our HDMI inputs and we send one cable up to the tv from the receiver, I would imagine that would be easier to just put the sync box in from receiver to TV cable setup.

That said, there is another way to get ambilight and HDR working, the HDFury Diva can basically perform wizardry on HDMI sources and strip or add features, resize, and encode audio, etc. It also has an ambilight type feature. The price is comparable, but the zone count is much higher, as seen in demo and test samples, it also wraps around the 4 sides not just the top and sides.
    I was interested in the gradient until I saw the pricetag, so the Diva is still my first choice for a home theater.

    Question. I have a 65in on a stand. The TV is about 12-15 away from wall. Was looking at this as a option and was wondering what’s the ideal distance from the wall the TV should be to get the best effects from the lights.

    Hi, thanks for the video. I just completed DIY Hyperion setup few days back. Philips HUE is definitely at the TOP when it comes to user friendly setups compared to the options that we have in the market and much much easier/ simpler compared to all the DIY setups. I would still go for the DIY setup (Raspberry PI, LED Strip, Video Grabber etc.) because the entire setup costs less than 100$ and works exactly how this setup works. I do agree DIY is not for everyone but if someone is tech savvy then it should not be a problem.

    Okay so when you say it doesn't work with tv apps...does that mean the lights won't work if watching Netflix straight from the tv?
    Vs watching Netflix through a Pstation that's connected to the box?

    What's your opinion in terms of brightness compared to hue play? I used to have 5 bars, 3 at top and 1 each side, swapped now for gradient. I prefer gradient color sync but out of synch the brightness seems lower compared.to hue bars. What's your opinion?

    Like, what's keeping you from putting them upside down and backwards and them STILL being able to read where to put the correct color in the correct area for the correct scenes in a movie?

    Are you able to just choose one solid color for the gradient lights if you wanted to? - ie having a soft white light throughout the entire movie without the colors changing to match the scene on the TV?

    If you use a home theatre reciever and you got like 5-6-7 HDMI in it and ofcourse only one out that you plug into the philips sync box and then to the TV. Will that be no problem? Voila you have lights for all your devices and not only 4?

    how much distance is recommended between the TV and the wall to have a nice ambilight experience?

  • @PumpkinPails
    @PumpkinPails 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does hooking up all your devices to the sync box affect any of the "wake tv" functions. I don't know if that's the correct term, but that function that turns on the tv automatically and sets it to the correct input when you turn on the PS4 or Roku is what I'm talking about.

    If you do play a game in 4K @ 120fps will the light strips stay on in a solid color or will you flat out not be able to play 4k120 unless you disconnect from syncbox and go straight to TV w/your next generation console?

    Question: I just bought the lights and the sync box for my entertainment setup. I read the the hue box can only do 4k /60. Is it best to watch movies through my 4k player or streaming through my Roku stick for best picture?

    Can i add this to a tv thats not mounted. It will be on a sand. In the corner of the room so it wont be close to the wall. Will it still work well for me at night? Also the tv is 77"

    Tx for the in depth video.
    Around 5:50 you say that the sync box does not support apps on the Tv. hmm.. What if you do "hdmi out" from tv into sync box. Could that not solve it?
    Most tv´s only use apps.. no hdmi or external devices are connected any more.
    I ask, because I have feared what you say is true.. and its the only thing that have kept me from bying it.

    Can you configure the Lightbar to only turn on when the TV is on? even without the Syncbox? (since i might use it without and just use the software from my PC when i want the gradient).
