When she hears it, she called him, and he asked her to marry him in 1965 and they stayed married until he passed away in 2021 at 78 They had 2 daughters.

My mother was from Liverpool and used to ride the ferry across the Mersey River. Like the other huge hit from this group, during the British Invasion in the 60's.

The legend is that Gerry Marsden (The lead Singer) had an argument with his girl friend and she walk away from him in anger. He wrote this song and dedicated to her the next night and they got back together... And stayed together as man and wife till his death.

I Love this song Very much 🥲 April 1964 ☀ ( pronounced like Jerry, with a soft G )
It was based on a true story. The lead singer Gerry Marsden had just broken up with his girlfriend at the time, being depressed he went home and wrote this song. He played it to her the next day over the phone and it brought them together. She ended up being his wife and stayed married till he passed away in 2021
I always heard the name pronounced with the hard G making it sound like Jerry.
Produced by George Martin who also produced the Beatles. And Gerry is pronounced Jerry 😊

These guys were massive here in the UK and for a time were as popular as The Beatles, before the latter left everyone in the popular music scene behind.
