  • Learn everything about RACK & PINION TYPE POWER STEERING. Hydraulic and Electric Power Steering Explained!
    Steering is the main part of controls of an Automobile and helps you to drive your car in whichever direction you want.
    This Video explains how a rack and pinion type steering works and how Hydraulic and Electric Power steering works.
    Power Steering has made life easy and nowadays we require negligible effort to steer even big trucks. Understand how power steering assists the driver and reduces the steering effort.

    What if the engines has turned off will its steer

    • @AutoDecode
      @AutoDecode  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In case of ELECTRIC Power Steering - YES it will steer!
      For an ELECTRIC power steering you can still steer the wheel even if the assisting motor doesn't work. The electric motor basically just assists the motion of the rack by adding to the force that the driver applies using the steering wheel. Thus, if the motor fails, the only difference would be that the driver would require higher driving effort (Torque and thus in turn force required to turn the steering wheel) than what is required in the normal the condition when the electric power steering functions perfectly well.
      In case of HYDRAULIC Power Steering - NO it will not steer!
      Hydraulic power steering requires the engine to be running in order to keep the hydraulic pump running. If the engine is not running, the pump doesn't work as well. This is because the pump is directly connected to the engine for its input power (generally using a belt drive). If the pump is not running, the hydraulic pressure due to the blocked hydraulic fluid which cannot be circulated stops the motion of the steering rack and hence locks it.

      @@AutoDecodeis the electric motor the same as power steering control module?

    • @osmacar5331
      @osmacar5331 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@el6285 no, that is what deals with your Delta P (Change in position) and what makes steering spaz out when it is triggered to have a seizure. hydraulic (the safer and better option) is purely mechanical, only downside is you need to seal check every so often, but if you are competent you will not have it fail even after a crash.

      How the motor changes its direction of rotation

    • @AutoDecode
      @AutoDecode  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In a motor, there are number of coils on stator which are energized one after the other, and thus keep pulling the rotor, which creates the rotation of motor. So the direction of energizing the coils defines direction of rotation of rotor. If the coils are energized in opposite manner than the direction of rotation of rotor will be opposite as well.

      YES! For an ELECTRIC power steering you can still steer the wheel even if the assisting motor doesn't work. This FAIL-SAFE operation is the main advantage of ELECTRIC power steering over Hydraulic power steering.

    Do electric power steering depends on ECU...

    • @AutoDecode
      @AutoDecode  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it does! The ecu controls the torque and angular displacement by reading the data like steering wheel angle, tyre angle and more.
