King Penguins Mating Start To Finish, Then They Switch!

While spending several weeks among the penguins, I got to watch a lot of different behavior. This pair of penguins could possibly be a first-year pair since they seem to be rather confused at the end.
It's interesting to note all the different cues they rely on during this ritual, from trumpeting, to posturing, to clacking their bills and rubbing on each other. Other interesting observations are that their brood patch seems to open up - the area on their stomach that keeps an egg warm - and the apparent male's tail feathers flair out.

@aimv, kowalski yeah but I just think that if monogamy was so perfect then cheating wouldn't be as common as it is. Most humans get bored of their partners eventually be it emotionally or sexually 😕 Polygamy doesn't mean you have to see your girlfriend's boyfriend on the regular but it does mean that if you're interested in someone else you don't have to sacrifice your current relationship to try another one that may not work and you don't have to feel guilty about it. Jealousy may still be an issue tho, can't say much about that
