    My friend Ellis Goodson was shown the coloring method by Corben about his methods and made a video about it.

      I wish you tube would let you link that. His coloring method sounds totally bonkers.

    Always great to hear Jose! I'm also waiting for the big Taschen volumes to get to the full-on Kirby, Romita, Buscema, Colan, etc years.

      The Taschen ones are strange for me. I don;t have the nostalgia, so would rather see the type of work Jose did on Swamp Thing. In an ideal world there would be both approach to accommodate our varying preferences.

    Great interview to José and thank you for sharing so many tricks and secrets, not so often you find this kind of advice and details. It's always great to see the work of the master Corben and what José is doing to bring it back to life is amazing. Corben was always one of my main influences, as a comic author , and I will be eagerly waiting for the release of José's restoration. About the use of AI in comics, I agree you cannot ignore it and I started playing around with it, although I have been making photoshopped collages and modifications of the limited products it creates by now. Thanks a lot.

      Glad this was helpful and informative!
      I think a lot of people will find legit uses for AI in their workflow and am excited to see it. Just sad that is means more garbage will flood the market and have to be waded through to find the good stuff.

    Excellent interview in all respects. Colorists and color restorers often are not given the credit they deserve as an integral and crucial part in all color print and digital projects. Thanks for this great conversation. Cheers👍🏻

      They really do deserve WAY more props. I hope Jose gets the credit he deserves on things like the Den books.

    I don't think about the dots as "nostalgia" ... it's just a way of coloring, which often has a lot of beauty on its own ... and it was the one the artists had in the back of their heads when they drew the comics. ... thanks for the amazing conversation btw!

    Now I'm wondering what type of scanner Mrs. Corben used if the quality of the scans was good enough for Jose to work from. A basic cheapo scanner, or a top-of-the-line one her husband left to her?

    When you mentioned at the end of the interview that the Swamp Thing recolours were now out, did you mean, the new release of the Absolute Swamp Thing? Because if you did, and Jose did the work, I definitely want to purchase it.

    • @clubgrubbug
      @clubgrubbug 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, the Wrightson Absolute Swamp Thing, but sadly, very, very sadly, not the Alan Moore run. Those ones were recolored with shit ass digital doorknob colors that wash out all of the beautiful ink work.

      @@clubgrubbug I know, watched review videos of it and that’s why I didn’t get them. Such a damn shame. That’s exactly why I kept my trades and didn’t upgrade. Such a missed opportunity for DC to get Jose for this project!!! Between Moore’s writing and all the phenomenal artists that worked on that series…it would have been a day one buy for me! 😞.
      And since I failed to mention above…absolutely fantastic interview with Jose! I’m no artist, and though I sometimes didn’t understand the lingo, because I’m no professional, I hung on every word. I was absolutely blown away buy the discussion. I’m definitely in your guys camps. I follow creators as well. Be it artist or writer. Such a damn shame Marvel and DC doesn’t reprint in the manner discussed. Great job you guys. Loved it! 👍🔥🔥🔥

    An amazing interview. Thank you for this. I learned a ton (as always). Prof. Villarrubia is a master artist and a prodigious intellect. Listening is a treasure.
    I wonder if AI could be bent to the purpose of developing coloring techniques that are lost or not logistically possible as is the case with some of Rich Corben's coloring processes? Something that is not feasible for the working artist/colorist, but with AI-assist, could be achievable and economically realistic? In this way, AI is another tool in the artist's toolbox of techniques.
    I hope that Villarrubia gets to color BWS's Conan!

    • @clubgrubbug
      @clubgrubbug ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He has that aura of wise man, right? I would take a class if I could!
      That is an interesting idea. It could learn to determine best color based on multiple scans of the same page in print. Hmm. Let's not and save the work for masters like Jose.
      Oh, I would die for that collection!

    Recoloring jobs - the person who recolored Al Williamson for those remastered _Empire Strikes Back_ and _Return of the Jedi_ Marvel adaptations - yeesh.... I did not like that computer coloring at all - and adding in computer generated star fields and smoke etc... It wasn't good. ps, as far as Adobe, they do have Fresco for iPad which has some really nice wet media brushes etc, and could be seen as a strong competitor to Procreate.

    • @clubgrubbug
      @clubgrubbug ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh, lord, I hope I never have to see that Williamson re-color.
      Fresco does seem cool. A few artists that really inspire me right now are using it.
