      4 seat harness, fire extinguisher, winch, snatch block, survival bag, and trauma kit. I'm a partial paraplegic, and travel by myself...most of the time, so communication options are important: Iphone; flightcom intercom; headset...music pumper into headset; VHF radio, to communicate with other riders...who you know and don't know; aviation radio, that can be used to talk to pilots at 30FL; Spot X Globstar GPS...panic button for EMS.

      Lights, lights, and more lights. Chase light. Sand particulate system for those who live in southern Arizona. Mirrors...rifle rack...Coolers...anchors...mufflers.

    My first machine had a half windshield. It didn't take long to figure out a full windshield would be better for me but they must be scratch resistant. My unit came with a top and if it hadn't it would have been the #1 choice. You guys are right on regarding what you should have to make your riding day better after that.

    #4- Half doors! Have a Defender too and the net at tops of doors really are uncomfortable as nylon straps cut your underside of arm. I see you removed them...any regrets? I'm thinking about doing same thing.Thanks~

    How about a spare tire?? Would hate to be out in BFE somewhere with wife or grand kids and get a unrepairable flat. Im in the market right now for a spare wheel and tire set up and mounting locations and mounts. Maybe garret has some suggestions for me. I run a 2018 Teryx 4, standard suspension, pro box top. Have a Crossroads camper with toy deck on front so not much room to run something permanent in the rear.

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that a spare is really important. I have not come up with a good solution for the Teryx4. It’s hard to find a good place to mount the spare. If I come up with something I will make sure to share the info. -Garrett

    #1 roof
    #2 detachable windshield
    #3 doors
    #4 winch
    #5 rudimentary tool box
    Most utvs come with power steering nowadays but mine didn’t so I added that first. I have an OG mav and the extended fender flares are also way important. I don’t mind the mud so much as the wife when I’m trail riding. Always keep a spare belt In your tools (and the tools to change it). I really like the quick detach back window too. In my tools I also have one of those micro jump starters about the size of a cell phone. They are light and small and work great for utvs and ATV’s (saved me & friends many times). If your town/county/state allows utvs on the road I highly recommend a turn signal kit. Way easier than hand signals and young drivers often have no idea what they even mean. I also have a fire extinguisher mounted on a roll cage bar. Haven’t used it yet but I saw someone who did, and I thought man I’m glad he had that. I wanna radio next!

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roof is definitely a priority! Especially here in the hot southwest! Sounds like you’ve got a nice setup! I have a CB but have thought about radio’s as well. Jump box is definitely a must have as well! Thanks for watching! - Joe

    First thing I did was put some nice PRP seats in. After a few hours in stock RZR seats, they can really take a toll on the body. Second, I put mirrors on. You got to see what's going on around you at all times. Third, I went with a 1/4 windshield. After getting dusted out on a few trails, a full windshield and rear mesh net is in my future. Fourth, I actually ordered them before I bought my RZR, wheels and tires. The stock wheels look like crap, and the Big Horns, not a great tire as far as I am concerned. Went with some Terrabites and some Pro-Armor chrome wheels. At 1000 miles, the tires still look new. And fifth, flags. Put 2 flags on the rear. You want to be seen as much as possible. Next on the list, a complete JL Audio sound system. Berts down in So Cal has a real good special. Hope to get that done very soon.
    Thanks for another good video!

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a solid list. Mirrors are definitely important. I almost feel naked without them. I've got Big Horns on my Defender. They've been a solid tire and have performed well enough for me so far. I've got 2,000 miles on them with more than 1/2 the tread left. When they wear out I'll be moving to the Terrabites as well.
      Thanks for watching

    First thing i did was rearview mirror. 2.4 point harness's. 3.half window, which counts as full window but I'm saving for a real glass window. 4. Lights, I know they're not that important but hey, they're cheap! 5. Mine didn't come with a roof, and when you dont have a roof life can get rough in the sun and rain so that's my 5. Still need to figure out a tool box that doesn't take up the whole bed? Anybody?

    #2 Seats.. Nothing beats a good set of suspension seats
    #3 Windshield... Although we ALWAYS wear helmets, 1/2 w/s is handy..

      @@DerangedOffRoad I agree. When I bought my 2021 RZR 1000 XP 4...I had no idea what I was doing; this was my first. I didn't buy the turbo because I always planned on adding a supercharger...which benefits drivers from stop to mid; while turbos go from med to top end.
      I have..as of today's date...just under $17,000 in after market adds; stuff I mentioned above. I have invested enough that I know I can't sell it, but still want to reach the 200 HP benchmark. I'm working on purchasing the 181 hp pro motor; either brand new or out of a wrecked machine.
      So to those who buy drive and sell their UTV's...good for you...i'll keep mine.

    This is a top 5 for them & them only and in no way a top 5 list for the majority of us. I knew as soon as i saw number 2,3, & 4! we are all different and ride in different terrains and need to personalize our own top 5 lists, depending on how we ride, where we ride, and who rides with us. people that make these lists never once consider others environments, terrains or needs of anyone but themselves. and are worthless to the majority of us.
    Your top 5 list will include your top 5 items needed for how and where you ride. figure out what is best for you. and some are brand specific, I certainly don't need half doors, my sxs came with them. a stereo is nice, but not a must have, a 5th seat is only a must have for a very very small percentage of people. if you can't tell the difference between a screwdriver and a wrench, a toolbag is useless, if you only ride easy trails or with a group you do not need a winch and I like to go without my windshield in the summer to get more of a breeze. If you ask 100 people for their top 5 must have's, you will get 100 different answers. your top 5 must have items that are the most important 5 items for you.
