Season ticket holder here. Are we excited? Can Laine do better than Josh Anderson, Gally, The Petzette, Armia, Dvorak, Roy, Jake Evans, Harvey Pichnoutte? You got your answer.
Some people don't always quite grasp what St-Louis does to a player. If 19 years old Laine can score 40+, the 26-27 years old version can too and Marty knows that very well. He just cracks the shell the player has been building and surrounding himself with the whole time he was in dark places. He finds the man behind the shell. He is wise, so he makes people see their path. He's putting himself in your place and helps you find your way out because he can communicate it very well on his journey out of your shoes.
Why are they calling Laine old? The dude is YOUNG. He just turned 26. He's only 1 year older than Suzuki. Laine, if things work out, could easily be part of this core for the future lol.
What else would we expect from the so-called analysts other then Corrado on anything relating to the Habs. Delusional how a trade for Laine which includes a second round pick in return for a third pairing d for such a short term can be called a bad thing. What a narrow perspective on a player such as Laine it doesn't surprise me at all.
In 2025-26 this will be our top 9: Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky Laine-Dach-Demidov Newhook-Beck-Roy Pretty nice young top 9 we have coming up. We probably will swap Beck with Hage eventually but thats very solid. Along with fantastic defense. And goaltending. You start to realize how dangerous this team can be when all Their young guys come to the NHL.
What will change Laine is using him in a dangerous way to other teams. I will give you a scenario.Your defenceman dumps the puck behind the oppositions goal,a forechecker needs to dig the puck up or steal it away from the oppositions defenceman,he passes it to your play making center who passes it to the trailer.Laine is the trailer,he doesn't have good speed,he has amazing accuracy and a wicked wrist shot.A wrist shot coming in late to the top corner.Thats how you play him.A playmaker with a forechecker and a pure scorer, that's Laine
i have concerns too, but it's easy enough to get out of if it doesn't work. habs will have all three retention slots next year. laine at 8.7x2 came as a negative asset to montreal, because harris is solid but not worth a top 40 pick. laine at 4.35x1 might actually interest some teams, if we need to move him. honestly, 30-35 goals, 60 points, effort, enough defensive buy-in to not embarrass himself, and not causing any drama, and i'll be happy.
The Habs traded Jordan Harris (a third round pick) for a 2nd round pick in 2026. Pretty good deal since they needed to unload a defenceman. Oh yeah, Columbus threw in Laine’s contract that only lasts 2 seasons and I believe his possible upside far exceeds the potential negatives!
Im glad Laine got out of Columbus,is Torts still coach there? Martin St Louis , would be a good coach for him, the young Montreal players are positive and will be his buddies, so pulling for him to feel good, supported and to play well.
Last year we were 1st in the league for defeats by 1 goal.. Adding Laine and giving some space to Mailloux/Hutson(2 good offensive defensemen) is a really good move. If Laine can be healthy and motivated to play under that spotlight we're making a huuuuuge step forward lol
Same type of trade as the Kovalev one and Kovy ended up having his best seasons and time in montreal. I'm not wearing any Pink Glasses at the moment when I predict the same to Laine cause they both need to be the spotlight to thrive. The guy has had 12 pts in the playoff at 19. How many Tor players have that on there pedigree ??? None.... the only one unhappy right now is Caufield cause wether he likes it or not he's not on the first PP anymore. Laine is top 10 overall talent in the league and he's 6'5 and can play a big mans game when he needs to. Cant wait to see these Matthews vs Laine matchups. Don't count the CH out of the playoff picture too fast . A lot of ????? I admit but they are a team that could finish 20th in the league but if everything clicks they could be in spring dance.
Laine has not reached his peak yet. It's worth the risk of a guy who can impact your team a lot if he's on fire. He's been through a lot and I'm sure he's ready to prove everyone wrong but mostly prove to himself he can do it.
I wouldn’t use what the Leafs did with their core as model for the Habs. The lazy guy they got rid of ended up winning multiple cups and became the NHL Ironman, while the young players they were worried about him influencing have won one playoff round.
Laine is proud of entering the assistance program, and cleaning up his life, as he should be, and does not see it as a negative on his resume, as Leaf fan Feschuk would have you believe..great message to state publicly that you think a 26-year-old entering the player assistance program and cleaning up his life is a reason to avoid him ...ah Leaf fans with a microphone are the worst Leaf fans.
I know the city and Montreal fans will be ecstatic like Frankie said. They love them a superstar. The habs team has been so meh roster wise. Looking at the bottom 9 forwards is depressing. It’s good to have a name player and he’s not some veteran who’s looking for the last cheque. That would be Dubois
I'll just say Habs fans will love him whenever they play the Leafs cause in Winnipeg he took it another level every time he faced Matthews Also he scores so many hattricks also has scored goals in a single game GREAT PICKUP
you bring this guy in to a young impressionable team because theyve already developed a strong culture and strong leadership which is more likely to be a positive for Laine rather than a negative for the others...
Habs got a second round pick for Harris and a big mobile all star in his prime for free that really wants to play for the Canadians ......They cleared up room in the back end and got scoring up front ...Big improvement !
Laine kind of reminds me of Kovalev. A guy with all the talent in the world, but the effort isn't always there and things don't always come together. You know that if he can get it together for a full season, he can be a 40-50 goal scorer with the right line mates, but he's wildly inconsistent and if he's not playing with the right guys, he can disappear. So much of hockey is between the ears, and I know that as a former competitive swimmer with an abusive parent. I don't know Patrik's situation and it's really none of my business, but if he's been dealing with some stuff, it can be tough to reach your potential. Theo Fleury dealt with his issues by drinking like a fish, and while that can work for some people for a short time (I mean, there's a reason people abuse substances), ultimately it can make things a lot worse when the inevitable crash comes. George Carlin put it best when he said that when it comes to substances, you start off with all pleasure and very little paid, but as you continue to use and up your intake, the pleasure part decreases and the price you pay increases, until there's a severe imbalance and you have to do something. I'm not saying Laine is an addict or anything like that, but mental health is not a joke, it's not something you can just "suck up." It's a process. You have to be ready to get help and you have to have the right support network to make sure you get the right kind of help. No judgment. Hopefully he finds his game in Montreal because when that team is doing well, that fanbase is rockin'.
Totally pumped, a guy who cleaned himself up, I would rather have him on this side of it. For what was traded, even if it's a stop gap, this is a good deal that a D piece needed to be moved. This grows the core and we'll probably see picks move a couple of immoveable players; Gallagher and Anderson.
Montreal loses nothing with this gamble Harris had no role in the team, Habs needed scoring on the top 6 and help on the PP Laine could help both. Maybe this is a turning point in his personal life, in his hockey career, joining a young, skilled, fun locker room is just what the doctor ordered.
Analyst on the right not understanding the Laine move, probably plays checkers vs chess. This is abslolutely no gamble at all for MTL, worst case, they pay 2 years of Laine and get a 2nd round pick out of Harris. And Harris was going to get passed in MTL by the depth in defense anyway. So MTL would have probably lost Harris for nothing, instead, they get a 2nd round pick, plus Patrik Laine. Worst case scenario is still a good deal, now if Laine can get back to 40 goal form, its a huge win. Plus they can still trust to re-sign him after two years to a roster fitting wage. He just turned 26, Suzuki, turned 25 this spring. So he’s right in the mix age wise.
It’s insane that on a sports panel, a guy is saying the truth and being logical and there’s 2 idiots on either side of him almost interrogating him and they just sound delusional. Normally i keep my mouth shut because there is a reason they’re up there and im watching on tv but my god these dudes genuinely seem like they either a grudge or they just don’t know what they’re talking about. Probably both honestly, get them off and put on 2 people who actually know what they’re talking about. This is Canadian hockey coverage, not American.
Hughes's good shots has been to offer a chance to talented players to have a second or a third chance to reach their potential. If it doesn't work, we'll try again with someone else. If it works, it will be a steal.
Will the Oilers become the Leafs with top heavy contracts taking up a lot of cap space and fill in the bottom 1/2 of the roster almost on a year to year basis?

Season ticket holder here. Are we excited? Can Laine do better than Josh Anderson, Gally, The Petzette, Armia, Dvorak, Roy, Jake Evans, Harvey Pichnoutte? You got your answer.
I heard Montreal got the 2nd round pick not Columbus?🤷🏻♂️
Edit: that guy who announced the trade said Columbus received the pick…
1:31 Laine has been a PPG player in 2 of the last 3 seasons. If that's underachieving then I want a team stacked with underachievers!
Real, these guys are clueless
i understand this is a toronto maple leaf driven media ... but i mean this is incompetence
Good job, Franky. Top notch!
Frankie is a weak link, always was.
@@mreppen1 aww poor you. Best ipinion on this poo panel. With fans like you. Its obvious.
@@mr.nihilz3283 sure, you’ll see.
@@mreppen1 id hate to imagine what that makes you
@@anza7522 I really don’t care, frankly. Bring it on.
Harris for the 2nd round pick was a fair deal. This is a low risk move that at worse turns into another draft pick at the trade deadline next year.
@@r_p_m7330 exactly.
So much positive vibes and nice guys / leaders in Montréal. They will help him and influence him. Not the other way around.
Why is everything anti-Habs? Only the guy in the middle is a true analyst.
In 2025-26 this will be our top 9:
Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky
Laine-Dach-Demidov
Newhook-Beck-Roy
Pretty nice young top 9 we have coming up. We probably will swap Beck with Hage eventually but thats very solid. Along with fantastic defense. And goaltending. You start to realize how dangerous this team can be when all Their young guys come to the NHL.
What will change Laine is using him in a dangerous way to other teams.
I will give you a scenario.Your defenceman dumps the puck behind the oppositions goal,a forechecker needs to dig the puck up or steal it away from the oppositions defenceman,he passes it to your play making center who passes it to the trailer.Laine is the trailer,he doesn't have good speed,he has amazing accuracy and a wicked wrist shot.A wrist shot coming in late to the top corner.Thats how you play him.A playmaker with a forechecker and a pure scorer, that's Laine
frankie keep up the good work. only one with good takes on this panel
Summer OverDrive sure is rough, having Feschuk on every day is... a choice.
Can't wait to have the main crew back.
i have concerns too, but it's easy enough to get out of if it doesn't work. habs will have all three retention slots next year. laine at 8.7x2 came as a negative asset to montreal, because harris is solid but not worth a top 40 pick. laine at 4.35x1 might actually interest some teams, if we need to move him.
honestly, 30-35 goals, 60 points, effort, enough defensive buy-in to not embarrass himself, and not causing any drama, and i'll be happy.
Frankly nailed it. Best part of the video.
As habs fan VERY PUMPED ABOUT THIS MOVE! Whoo hooo!
How did these guys get there jobs they have no clue either of them
First of all, its not Jordan Harris and a 2nd round pick, its Laine and a 2nd round pick for Harris, lol. Its a no brainer trade.
As a big habs fan , im very happy and optimistic. We needed a goal scorer big time
In return for Jordan Harris, Habs have nothing to lose, even if Laine doesn't work out.
Im glad Laine got out of Columbus,is Torts still coach there? Martin St Louis , would be a good coach for him, the young Montreal players are positive and will be his buddies, so pulling for him to feel good, supported and to play well.
ITS ABOUT TIME THEY GOT A SNIPER make sure you put him on the right line best player since laflure
Habs basically got a 1st and a 2nd for a 3rd. Awesome asset management.
Second pick goes to Montreal.
Good trade for Montreal. Not surprised Toronto media says different.
Could Laine be Montreal’s Eichle?
He'll be more like Montreal's Panarin (Jeff Gorton's handy work all over again!)
Frankie is talking hockey
If you don’t think Kent Hughes has done his due dilligence then you haven’t been paying attention.
I wouldn’t use what the Leafs did with their core as model for the Habs. The lazy guy they got rid of ended up winning multiple cups and became the NHL Ironman, while the young players they were worried about him influencing have won one playoff round.
Excuse me but Laine is only 26 so why are you saying he is old?
No-one’s saying it isn’t a gamble….but it’s an excellent calculated gamble.
Low risk - high reward.
It's basically "pay 5 bucks and have 1 in 10 to win a house." I take that bet every day.
Is Feschuk the right guy to be on the radio talking Habs? Get him into the journalism assistance program.
Feschuk reminding everyone why he was a baseball beat guy .Absolutely clueless.
I'll just say Habs fans will love him whenever they play the Leafs cause in Winnipeg he took it another level every time he faced Matthews
Also he scores so many hattricks also has scored goals in a single game
GREAT PICKUP
He will be fine in Montreal. Martin St Louis isn't Tortorella there is a attitude difference, Laine will advance in Montreal.
Montreal would've been happy with a straight even up deal. Throw in the 2nd rounder. HUGO out there robbing teams
The 2nd rounder was compensation for Montreal taking on the whole salary of Laine ... no problem as we have the cap room.
@@Mr_Spock512 yup
That will be first time since Laine was is Wpg that he will have good coach. I'm quite sure that makes big difference to his game.
It's Montreal getting the 2nd round pick not the other way around.
How is this Over Drive with none of the boys
you bring this guy in to a young impressionable team because theyve already developed a strong culture and strong leadership which is more likely to be a positive for Laine rather than a negative for the others...
If they didnt spend Price's LTIR money, they lose 10.5M in cap space. This is undoubtedly a great move!
Right away the guy announces the trade wrong..the 2nd round pick is going to Montreal, not Columbus.
Corrado looking at this deal without bias
Totally pumped, a guy who cleaned himself up, I would rather have him on this side of it. For what was traded, even if it's a stop gap, this is a good deal that a D piece needed to be moved. This grows the core and we'll probably see picks move a couple of immoveable players; Gallagher and Anderson.
Montreal loses nothing with this gamble
Harris had no role in the team, Habs needed scoring on the top 6 and help on the PP
Laine could help both.
Maybe this is a turning point in his personal life, in his hockey career, joining a young, skilled, fun locker room is just what the doctor ordered.
I would’ve been happy getting just the 2nd round pick back for Harris. I can’t believe they got Laine on top of that.
I really don't like Feschuk's stigmatization of the player's assistance program and of Laine trying to get help. Thats a stinky take.
I'm not concern about the habs but the leaf's should be
You are living in the past guys
It s a good trade for both team
Hughes's good shots has been to offer a chance to talented players to have a second or a third chance to reach their potential. If it doesn't work, we'll try again with someone else. If it works, it will be a steal.
these "experts" are OUT OF TOUCH (except the middle guy)
Will the Oilers become the Leafs with top heavy contracts taking up a lot of cap space and fill in the bottom 1/2 of the roster almost on a year to year basis?
Imagine not liking the Laine trade from the Habs perspective 🤦♂. 0 risk major upside potential.
