I used to be on the road, and was able to follow so many of my heroes like Ronnie Earl, Duke Robillard, Anson Funderburgh, Little Charlie Baty, Jimmie Vaughn. I am retired now and also moved so far away from where I played this music. It's sad... But I love hearing you playing it.

Hollywood Fats has two albums The HollyWood Blue Flames - Deep in America (extremely fast picking on Nit Wit) and Hollywood Fats and The Paladins some great jump blues on those and there are some TH-cam videos with James Harmen can't miss those
He played on Harman's Those Dangerous Gentlemens, Strictly Live in '85 and Extra Napkins. Played with Rod Piazza, Smokey Wilson and Jonh Lee Hooker too.

Dear Jack, could you comment on two things: 1. In the Hollywood Fats solo on the IV chord (fifth bar, chord D) the melody pattern starts with the note G that is strongly accented. But the note G is not in the D chord. Can you explain the context and why that G-note works so well here? 1. I think there is a I-VI-II-V turnaround in the last 4 bars of Rock This House. How do you deal with that when improvising? Arpeggios, or perhaps going to the A-major scale? Best, Lukasz
Jack: This lesson is at least as fine as any on your equally great TrueFire course!! I find myself frequently stopping the ideas to absorb best I can. I really love this style as I view it as upbeat blues/jazz with rock influences and just fun good time guitar playing! Brian Setzer had the right idea decades ago! Loved the playing, loved the selections. Only wish would be to call the key of the tune so that when you talked about going “to the 6th” or “the third” it would be easier to jump to those. Not a huge thing cuz we can eventually grab it by ear. Thanks for even putting it up though.

For those that aren't familiar with Duke Robillard, he's about as good as it gets when it comes to this style. Ronnie Earl replaced Duke when he left Roomful of Blues. Well put together lesson ~!~

Maybe looking at one particular phrase and how it can be altered rhythmically to fit over a shuffle, funk, slow blues, etc?
