  • Spectacular coastal views abound on Bell Island Newfoundland. We walked along the coastline to take in these astounding views, aqua colour waters, high cliffs, just amazing! Upon arrival to Grebes Nest, a rocky shore leads to the opening to the cave entrance. On the other side is pretty remarkable. Bell Isle is a definite must see.

Thank you for yet another beautiful video of yet another spectacular part of our province! Bell Island has incredibly beautiful scenery, and its history is as interesting as its geography and geology! Did you know it was attacked by German submarines during WW2, and that there are remains of several iron ore carrier ships sunk by those submarines off the coast?!
One little correction for you, though. The name of the island is Bell Island. There is also a Belle Isle, which is an island located off the top of the Great Northern Peninsula, in the Strait of Belle Isle between the Island of Newfoundland and the Labrador portion of the province. Hope you don't mind me pointing that out.

Hi Carol, thanks for sharing some history, we were not aware of the attacks. My father may have mentioned it when I was young but I do not remember. I will have to read up a bit on that thank you. Yes I did slip and said Bell isle a few times. That is what my family always called it when I was growing up. I actually have a vivid memory when I was really young. I was standing with my father on the shore. I pointed and asked if that was Canada (LOL) and he said no my son that is Bell Isle. Im sure we will be back to visit a few more times. We would like to do one of the mine tours. Wilson

Thanks for your reply, and for taking my message in the positive light in which it was intended. Isn't it wonderful when visiting a place stirs up a warm childhood memory, such as your chat with your dad! Lol.
I do hope you get to experience the mine tour on Bell Island. I was skeptical, but it was absolutely fascinating to walk underground, feel secure and safe, and see how the shafts were built and supported without wooden beams such as those used in the tunnel you went through in this video.
Again, thanks for all these wonderful videos!

Most of us were trying to keep this place NFLD a secret eh ..lol now we're all over the internet.. LoL not to make light or down play it was heart breaking but 911 is basically what discovered us up here, sorry to say.
Theres supposed to be a beack over there with something like a mini Stonehenge, say it was put there by the vikings (my crowd) Dan Aykroyd has a TV series called Sci fi Chronicles of the paranormal back in the early 90's apparently he obtained government documents from thhe government and made a tv series around it, pretty interesting stuff. An actual man from bell island actually works for that Government agency, actirs plays him in one episode on bell island...put toast in your pockets ya dont want the fairies gettin ya bye'.. Lmfao
