I love the river analogy...I believe at times I pull from the river before giving it much thought, and then regret it. But acknowledging and identifying this is the first step, now to stop myself. ;)
I just ate an entire rack of ribs from Costco while watching this video. Costco racks of ribs are really really big. It's now almost 2am and I have class at 8. Bad decisions were made today...
Wait but if you are the guy in the river picking thoughts then whos the one thinking in his head does he have another man picking from tge river of thoyghts he has about the thoughts in the river in your head?
There are a few ways of thinking about this. One way is that you are the one on the river bank, thoughtless. You know without thinking that such and such a thought is good or bad etc. It's possible to know something without thinking some concrete thought such as the words "This is good. I want to do more of that". For instance, wave your hand at the screen. Did you think of how to wave it or did it wave on its own? Did you need to think "I should wave my hand" or did you just do it without that thought. It's also possible to consider your thoughts and emotions without thinking particular things. Another thing to consider is that any thoughts that you have about your thoughts and emotions are also in the river (for you to consider).

0:32 - "..and I thought to myself, aha!"
A good way to elongate your stories is to redescribe things and remind the listener of your continued emotional state or past experiences.
The timing on the 'aha'! at 0:33 is perfect.

The best stories on Day9 TV !
