There's a lot of times they get to 29 and I think to myself...it's over.
And then I sit here in just pure amazement when it's not even close to being over.

Is that kingman with food wishes on the second match commentary? Totally brings a more fun side of king wishes. The chemistry between those two is so salty xD hopefully kingsman will keep comming ontop of their duels!

Unfamiliar with pro Tetris, so: Why the gloves and what is the gloved hand doing? I suspect the hand movements have something to do with faster button presses, but I'm not sure. Please enlighten me :3

This is a technique (or a playing style) called "rolling", developed for moving pieces left and right faster. Players rapidly tap on the back of the controller while slightly pressing on the D-pad, which allows very rapid sequential inputs. The glove is to relieve the hand from knocking against the controller so much.
Historically, the first playstyle was DAS, where you press and hold the D-pad. Afterwards, there was hyper-tapping, where you tap very quickly, which is somewhat straining physically and still not as reliably fast as rolling.
With DAS playing on level 19 and beyond is hard, and on 29 and beyond is impossible (which is why level 29 was called the killscreen). With hypertapping 19 became much easier, and 29 somewhat playable. And rolling makes it possible for top players to play on the killscreen "comfortably" while even getting tetrises.
You can search "tetris rolling" and watch aGameScout's insightful video about rolling.

Has to do with a discovery with high level Tetris play that allows indefinite play on vanilla Tetris. By positioning the directional thumbpad just before it registers the input, you can roll the fingers from the other gloved hand on the bottom of the controller for a consistent, high button press framerate; otherwise known as Clicks Per Second (CPS)
This is what allowed Human Viable TAS play (Tool Assisted Speedrun) and eventually led to some of the craziest and biggest milestones in Tetris History within a short 4 year period. Dozens of score records broken week after week, Glitched Colours (Explanation on those by HydrantDude) being reached no less than a year after the playstyle discovery, leading up to possibly the greatest Achievement ever performed, _Beating Tetris by Forcing A Crash._
This is but a Very Brief Summary of everything that's happened in four years and I would Highly recommend aGameScout; for their documentary style video format on these subjects and crazy tournament match breakdowns, HydrantDude; for their complete breakdown of NES Computing at this level of Tetris play, and Classic Tetris Monthly or Classic Tetris for pure Tetris tournament craziness on a monthly basis.
Hope this clears up something for you to, possibly entertain yourself for the better part of 6 months. Have Fun!
