    Thanks for all the extra details. Getting ready to possibly replace the brakes on my trailer and was scared about removing the bearings. I guess I thought they'd be pressed on somehow. Good to know the job is relatively easy. Thanks for the info about the bearing preload and proper greasing.

      The outer races are pressed in the hubs but you can get them out with a hammer and a punch. I will use the old bearings and a block to drive in the new races if you need to replace them. This shouldn’t matter if your just repacking the bearings or working on the brakes though.

      I like that. Over time I’ve found perfection can become an obsession that cannot be obtained.

    Jason, the Milwaukee impact has 4 settings: 1 = low, 2 = medium, 3 = high and, bolt removal mode. It sounds like you have it on bolt removal mode. You’ll want it on speed 3 for faster breakaway.
    Keep up the good work!

    • @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic
      @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. I did have it on bolt removal mode. I tried it on setting 3 and tried it back on the bolt removal mode and I went back to 3. Bolt removal mode is not for me. Especially when you get a rusty bolt and it keeps switching back and forth. I should have read the manual I guess. 😁

    Have the same Milwaukee Impact and mine acts the same exact way. I always figured it was some sort of power saving speed. My other theory is to let you know that you had not stripped the nut and it was coming off with little resistance. It’s awkward to me, to have the trigger pulled all the way and the impact is doing what it wants.

      I kinda wish it was a just pull the trigger and it turns type tool. I wonder how much extra battery life it gets running this way?

    Are all 7k axle brakes and seals the same?

    • @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic
      @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m not sure but I would guess they are not, at least between manufacturers. When I ordered these parts I got the brakes by the manufacturer and weight and I think there were two seal sizes for this axle.

      @GusgusA1 there will be a part number on the seals and the bearings and races. If they are dexter axles I believe they have a catalog you can get the parts out of online.

      I’ve been under the mercy of the weather trying to get the axles out of the original frame to sand blast and paint them. Been raining a lot lately. The frame is all set though.

    Hello Jason The Municipal Mechanic!
    This is Nove from AISKITS, I watched your channel it’s really exciting and impressive.
    This is a newly launched LED headlight! You can see this LED headlight, is not cool?it is our latest development of a product!
    In the United States, there are many classic cars, they are our closest partners! Now they may need some upgrades to accompany us better.
    Replacing and upgrading our headlights does more than making driving safer. They improve the look of your vehicle as well as its performance. LED bulbs have a lower power pull on your vehicle’s battery and system. They also give our vehicle a fresh and new feel with bright white light.
    I was wondering if you could do a share for it on your TH-cam:
    • Introduction
    • Overview of features
    • Actual driving footage with the bulbs
    • Amazon link on the description for viewers interested in buying the product."
    Please let me know if this is OK with you. Really looking forward to working with you.
    Best wish,
    Nove

    I agree it is a waste of money to replace the hubs on a trailer that rarely gets used.

    Try a diff setting on the impact. Mine does not do that but I ways have it on the highest setting

    • @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic
      @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it is on the highest setting too. Or whatever the square with the dot in it is. I’ll try it on the different settings and see if it makes a difference. It seems to give full power until the bolt breaks loose then it goes into a low power mode to turn it out the rest of the way. I was looking to see if there is an explanation of the settings and I noticed they keep referencing two settings but mine has 4 settings on it. It’s weird I can’t find it in the instruction manual.

    • @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic
      @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ok I just found what it is. This tool has 4 modes low, medium, high, and bolt removal mode. I thought the last setting was the highest but 3 is the highest and the fourth setting is also the highest but kicks the rpm down to 750 after the bolt breaks free making it bolt removal mode. I think I’m going to be turning that off.

      14k is the gross trailer weight. I was surprised with the 1/2 inch wheel studs but dexter has them in their listing for 7k axles. I’ve had my 9200 lb excavator on it last summer so it will hold the weight fine. I don’t go far with it though. I’m sure the brakes wouldn’t be the best at a full load with the rust on them though.
