In board, out board, v drive..... anything with a prop you need a decent depth of water to clear. You don't want to hit the prop at all. Jet boats though once you're up and moving can run in insanely shallow water, down to just a few inches. You just need depth for the launch to get up to speed.
V-drives absolutely, but i have always wondered how dangerous it is for a V-drive to hit something with the prop.
