    These are a mix of dye and pigment inks, the latter is what settles to the bottom. They are always water-reactive even after dry, and never permanent unless they're sealed. They can be endlessly layered, but each layer should be dry. Your examples turned out great, I love the brown. I recently found your channel and I love your positive attitude.

    Thank you for another great video.
    I add 3 steel BBs into my bottles to speed up the mixing process and minimize bubbles.

    I live in the desert and let me tell you at times you will appreciate it and times where you would hate it! you have about 15 seconds til your paint on your gel plate is BONE DRY! seriously 15 seconds tops! I curse it at times... but then the sun sets and I remember I live in one of the most beautiful places on earth!

    Thanks for the video -- I watched the Creativation videos but it's always helpful to see what other people do with a new product. I ordered one color and can't wait to try it out.

    I love these, and the ink pads... so much fun! And, I DO live in the desert, and it has its moments! lol. Thank you for showing us how these behave.

    Tim Holtz stated that you can really shake them, the pigment on the bottom won't clog the sprayer like mica sprays will.

      Yes I saw that too but he covers them with a cloth so the ink doesn’t leak out the nozzle

      Hi... You might know this by now but the reason is that the oxides are a fusion of dye and pigment so the dye soaks into the paper and the pigment portion sits on top. Book paper is so thin that it went all the way through it. :-)

    Oooooh, love the Oxide Sprays!!! ❤️ Don't know about the sprays but when using the ink pads you should dry each layer before adding more colours. But I really loved the effects you got on all the papers, especially the brown card stock. 😍

    I would think that the pages with the text that resisted the paint, is due to the ink used, rather than the paper.
    Like you, I don't like brown. All those art journals etc, that are vintage, brown/sepia etc, just don't do anything for me. I love colour! (That's why I was so happy when I discovered your channel, and subscribed right away!)
    I haven't tried the Distress Oxide paint sprays, but after watching this video, I might have to get some. Thanks for demonstrating them.

    D. Wakley makes a acrylic spray now. I bought some to try and they are exactly like acrylic when it drys. It drys into a plastic like layer and covers everything underneath. I don’t know if you have tried them by now, but if not it’s worth it. I also use them on my gel plate.

    Carolyn, There's so much interest in Distress Oxides and I have really tried to love them. But I don't. Seeing your examination I see what they can do. It still doesn't move me to buy them, but that's a good thing. I can spend more time with inks and paints. Thanks!

    That's cool how the resist happens on some of the book text. =)
    Those do seem to be very pretty and good sprays. =)
    =) I actually like brown... but I don't like green... (so I understand how you feel about brown). Anyway that extreme beading sheet, is beautiful. =)

    I had a bad reaction to the odor of the oxide spray, because of that I'm throwing my sprays out. Very pretty colors, but I have too much fear of using them again.

    These look like they are going to be a lot of fun. Still waiting for mine to arrive, along with the new mini Archival ink pads in Distress colors...yay! Check out ScrapTimeVideos on TH-cam. She has the best Creativation videos. She filmed Tim demonstrating the sprays and explaining how he shakes them (not side to side). Plus he's pretty funny in the video too! Thanks for testing these out with a video.....btw I really love the one you did on brown :)

    Try rubbing the papers you sprayed with a babyvwipe. With the oxide inks the oxide comes off and you see something completely different.

    Hi Carolyn. I've been using these sprays & I don't like how it leaves the powdery residue behind & if you don't want it to rub off on other cardstock or your cards you have to buff it off, which on glossy paper, then leaves a shine, but that's a lot of trouble & time to put to it. Do you have any any ideas on how to prevent this?

    I'm sorry, but the 'old "like ringing a bell" really doesn't cut it OR shake them enough. Tim says to cover the top with a paper towel and then shake the tar out of them...Me? I take off the top, put my thumb over the opening and THEN shake the tar out of them. They never clog and they combine beautifully 100%.

  • @lindaedwards3377
    @lindaedwards3377 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    No need to shake like you're ringing a bell; there's no mica in distress oxide sprays to clog the nozzles. Per the Distress King himself. 😄

    • @suebouch4074
      @suebouch4074 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      FYI... You need to shake them side to side (like ringing a bell) to mix the dye and pigment together because if you shake them up and down the ink comes up through the nozzle and makes a mess! Tim's latest video with 2nd release also suggests laying them on their side while playing so pigment mixes easier. :-)

    • @lindaedwards3377
      @lindaedwards3377 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@suebouch4074 You are 100% correct. I just saw Tim's video demonstrating the 2nd set of sprays last night and I was surprised to see him shaking them from side to side. I'm sure I misunderstood from watching another video. Thanks for replying; I don't want to mislead anyone, so I really appreciate it! 👍

  • @maribelru2011
    @maribelru2011 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you don’t know the basics why is your video titled “How to use…”. Kind of misleading Tim has videos that answers all these questions, there’s no hidden mystery

      They are of no use unless it's a rare book. Almost all old books that are donated to places are thrown straight into landfill. At least this way they are getting used and appreciated.
