This is an AUDIO book, moron. Mispronounciations do ruin it - or, at least, for anyone who ACTUALLY, TRULY loves History and Literature. The only people who think it doesn't change a story are morons who, for some reason, think that incorrect language doesn't change the story. These people are, also, usually, morons who, themselves would mispronounce words. IT FUCKING MATTERS, YOU MILLENNIAL - OR, ACTUALLY, YOU'RE PROBABLY ONE OF THE EVEN WORSE, EVEN MORE INANE, GEN Z MORONS.
You are one of the many low-average idiots that are, steadily, dumbing down our world. Of course you don't think that SAYING THE CORRECT WORDS MATTERS; your I.Q. doesn't even reach Pet Rock status. SMH.
If people don't fucking know how to read, PROPERLY, they need to stop volunteering to read books to which other people actually WANT to listen!

Please note that the pronunciation of some Greek names can be difficult, especially for those not use to speaking Greek (modern, biblical, or ancient) so, the name Thucydides is actually pronounced THo͞oˈsidədēz and not as the reader here pronounces that name.

I'm here because Nietzsche speaks very very high of Thucydides. I'm incredibly frustrated with the state of things. As the great philosopher also experienced. He says the cure from ALL Platonism is Thucydides. Or ,in the end, it's courage in the face of reality that distinguishes a man like Thucydides from Plato.

Make your recordings public and about 1 hour long. You will get better with practice. Bonus point: figure out how to include a picture that relates to the book or include video of yourself reading. Lip readers will appreciate that!

That's pretty ironic, given that (neo-)conservative policies have done so much to ruin the general welfare of most western states (and, thus, don't do what you seem to think they do, as per Pericles' speech: preserve the welfare of the state as the backbone of all individual welfare).
Conservative social policies? Welcome to a world where fewer people are educated, more people are poor, and people who fall outside the mainstream have to fear for their rights all the time.
Trickle-down economics? Total failure. Inequality continues to skyrocket, billionaires don't pay taxes, forests everywhere combust almost spontaneously.
Trade protectionism? Gosh, yeah, the Trump administration really showed us how effective that is. Definitely not a hugely embarrassing relic from the 19th century.
Hawkish foreign policy? Woo-wee, just ask the Taliban how that worked out.
Conservatism sucks, and Pericles' speech doesn't offer any justification for it in a modern setting.

I appreciate the effort put into making this audiobook available.
That said, this is clearly an amateurish effort. The amount of halts, hesitations, and mispronounced words greatly subtracts from the experience of listening to this classic. I'm sure this won't be a popular opinion, but you would expect that if someone was going to narrate one of the great classics of literature that they would at least familiarize themselves with the correct pronunciation of common names in that book.

If you cannot even pronounce Thucydides correctly, there is NO WAY I’m going to listen to this.

How can you have not used a better sound/microphone set up before doing a whole book ? It is so amateurish and distracting it makes listening an unpleasant experience.
And couldn't someone have told him how to pronounce Thucydides ?

Please note that the pronunciation of some Greek names can be difficult, especially for those not use to speaking Greek (modern, biblical, or ancient) so, the name Thucydides is actually pronounced THo͞oˈsidədēz and not as the reader here pronounces that name.

How the fk does anyone know ancient Greek pronunciation? We're not even sure about Latin, how can we be sure of Greek?

    • @benedict7335
      @benedict7335 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@MrKbonez In fact brilliant work has been done by philologists at Cambridge - see W. Sidney Allen (1987): Vox Graeca: the pronunciation of Classical Greek, Cambridge: University Press, (3rd edition, ISBN 0-521-33555-8). The ancient system of accentuation is a first step. Greek grammarians wrote treatises on how to pronounce the Homeric texts.

Having studied both modern and ancient Greek, I'm entirely forgiving of anyone who struggles with pronunciation -- especially when I'm being read to for free. Love this!
