No offence to anyone but I personally have never understood keeping books that you disliked, are never going to read or are never going to reread. The only books I keep are ones I will reread, and even then I sometimes get rid of them after rereading them....there are few I will re over and over again x
I was just like you Hailey. I kept every book I had ever read and I was running out of space on my shelves. I broke down thinking "I can't get rid of books I have already read even if I hated them. I still read them." Then my husband said "wouldn't you want to make room for books that you'll love and have loved. Books that you'll re-read and books you're excited to read." I felt like a brick hit me in the head. Duh! I want to look at my bookshelves and see all the books I love or made me feel a certain way. I want to be excited when I look at my shelves. When someone comes over and asks me "oh I've wanted to read this, did you like it?" I can feel proud and say yes and tell them why. You go Hailey! It's tough as a bookworm to get rid of books you've read but now you have so much more space to fill with all the things you enjoy.
See, when I realize my shelves are full, I take books that I don't like anymore or that I don't plan or rereading for a while and I just put them in boxes in the attic. I don't think I could mass unhaul any books, at least not yet. Probably when I move so it's easier. Eh, who am I kidding? I'm gonna be a hoarder at this point.
I love that you give books to your high school. Such a great way to give back. Most of my books are in storage and I’m planning on going through them and unhauling a bunch of books as well.
I love unhauls as much as hauls. I think it's great that books that you don't want anymore go to a place where others can choose from them and buy them or loan them :) Sometimes you don't enjoy a book someone else does enjoy, and so it can go to someone else who may potentionally enjoy the book!
Your first unhaul video inspired me to go through my bookshelf as well. I got rid of 100+ books and it just made me feel so much better. I felt free and lighter. It was books I already read (and wouldn't read again) and books I would probably never read. I'm so glad that you inspired me to do that. Thank you!
I’m honestly so glad you did this! Growing up my mum always stressed to me how lucky I was to have books of my own. And the minute I grew too old for a book or read it once and didn’t want to read it again, we would donate them! I have no books from my childhood except Harry Potter and the chronicles of narnia. This is something I’ve kept doing in my adult life as well, and the minute I give a books less than 3 stars, it gets donated! Little tip, I find it less stressful to do this little and often rather than one big purge! I don’t even wanna think about you trudging 156 books into the boot of your car!!!!

I love the way your shelves look! You can definitely focus on the individual spines and the decorations way more now, and they look so good! And I love that The Goose Girl is on display! I read that because I remembered how much you liked it, and I'm so glad I ended up doing so- it was so good! It's one of the few books I felt strongly enough about to actually make a review for, too!!

The last time I did a major unhaul. I put them in the the trunk of my car and drove around with them for 2 weeks . Then Hurricane Sandy hit and took my car with the the books in the trunk. Hopefully someone broke open the trunk and saved them but I doubt it.
I saw a few books that I liked and I was surprised to see them, but then I thought about it and I have absolutely no reason to be upset. Not everyone likes the same books and everyone has the right to have their own opinions💕 I’m glad you’re happier about your bookshelves now💕

I'm un-hauling books all the time! I used to NEVER do it until one day I had that same thought - why am I keeping things that give me such negative energy and reminders? There was this one book that I just HATED and ANY time I saw, those feelings came back. Who wants to live like that??? Lol. Way to go!
I think it is so good that you did this! I always find it really freeing to let go of the books that don't make me happy or excited and pass them on to someone that actually will like them!
I hated Strands of Bronze and Gold so I’d keep that in the unhaul pile haha I love seeing unhaul videos, specially when they’re a huge purge which is the way I usually do it. Great video!
As a minimalist, this is so satisfying 😅 I used to keep all the books I ever read as well. But I had a huge uhaul and now I only have the books I love. It makes me love and treasure my books even more!

I'm on an ongoing project of tossing my books away. So far I have thrown out nine (full to capacity) garbage bags of books (hardcover and softcover combination). I have recently filled up four garbage bags of hardcover books. I estimate around six more garbage bags to be filled for the project to be complete.
I've done two unhauls recently and it feels SO GOOD to just empty out my shelves to make more room for books that I just bought and actually want to read! Plus donating things to my local library makes me feel happy for all the kids that are gonna get to read them after me and experience their stories
That’s literally more books than the total amount of books I own hahaha Seriously though, must feel so good to look at your bookshelves and only see books you love or books you really want to read💕
I'm soo happy for you! I have to say that I only keep books that I love, my absolute favorites and when I look at my bookshelf it brings me soo much joy. Books I think were just okay, I give away to friends or to thrift stores/libraries because it brings me joy to give away books.
I've been feeling the same way about my shelves lately. I'm really good in other areas of my home to keep only things that we truly love and make us happy but with my books---I just want to hold on to them. I don't separate by tbr/read so I'd just see my shelves and be like "well, there's this many I need to read and this many I've read but kind of don't even like" so now I'm going to try reading them and then immediately deciding whether I will keep it or unhaul it and then do a monthly unhaul. All of my unhauled books go to my friend that's a middle school teacher or to our libraries so I feel like I'd much rather spread my love of reading that way. I'm glad your shelves are causing you less anxiety!

The ruby red books are soooo much better in German! I read them in English first and was like hell nah. Then my friend forced me to read it in German and I was just blown away!

I've been waiting for this forever and I'm so excited! I bet it feels really good to let go of all those books you don't care about anymore. I purge almost seasonally, but basically get rid of books I don't like right after I read them. I donate most to my library for them to sell in their book sales. I like my book collection to be a reflection of what I love and what I'm currently interested in reading. Life is too short to read all of the books anyway, so I'm trying to get down to a zero tbr. It's so hard! Hahhaa I keep buying books, but having a large tbr kind of stresses me out. I'd love to have a quaint little bedside shelf of my small tbr books.

Aww I loved 13 blue envelopes! Also I use the 4 or 5 stars policy. I only keep the books that I gave 4 or 5 stars and get rid of the rest 😇

I've been waiting for this forever and I'm so excited! I bet it feels really good to let go of all those books you don't care about anymore. I purge almost seasonally, but basically get rid of books I don't like right after I read them. I donate most to my library for them to sell in their book sales. I like my book collection to be a reflection of what I love and what I'm currently interested in reading. Life is too short to read all of the books anyway, so I'm trying to get down to a zero tbr. It's so hard! Hahhaa I keep buying books, but having a large tbr kind of stresses me out. I'd love to have a quaint little bedside shelf of my small tbr books.
