Never Say Die in my view is a fantastically unique album which I've loved ever since it was released . I also totally dig Technical Ecstasy and all of the preceding albums .
This is their final show with Ozzy in 1978 before they broke up. And it is such a killer one. Their rendition of Snowblind from the same show is badass as well, probably their greatest live performance of it.
Never Say Die was made under the most difficult circumstances that Black Sabbath had faced with Ozzy. Nevertheless it contains some pretty good songs. I don't think Never Say Die is one of them. My favourite might be Johnny Blade.
Since it's an idiom: it took me decades to understand the meaning of it. Talking stage presence: 3rd of july in the Stadtpark of Hamburg, Germany, I'll be watching Gossip for my 4th time. What I've experienced the last 3 times: coming up stage. No fancy light show. No fog or stuff. Coming up stage and giving everyone a great time. Like some years ago @ the same place: the rain had just stopped. Beth came out first. Singing: here comes the sun!. And it did!
There's a memory! I'm right there, front row, spotty 17 year old kid. Unlucky in the respect that this was the replacement night for the cancelled gig in which Van Halen were supposed to be support (Quartz were support on the night).
So they released a video of an entire concert on VHS (yes VHS)of this tour and our local video store had it 👍.It was pretty much the 1st time we had ever seen any footage of Sabbath as Radio with Pictures never showed them Karen Hay hated Heavy Metal. We must have hired this Video 100 plus times 🤣
It's always a pleasure to watch your Black Sabbath reactions! Everything from this band was of course always great. As I've said before, notice once again who is standing at center stage with a spotlight on him.
Sabbath! La única banda q todo lo hizo por los fans. tenian mil riffs y ritmos para dar y ponía hasta 5 en cada canción, otras bandas los hubieran guaradados para otras canciones. por eso los fanáticos de sabbath somos tan afortunados.
I think the punk influence is strong with this song … much more straightforward. For a band that is about to implode, within a few months, they appear to be firing on all cylinders here! That last line from Ozzy, hoping theyll be around for another 10yrs… the band would be, but not with John Osbourne. Less than a year later, Ozzy was out, Black Sabbath was already working with Ronnie, and Ozzy would be auditioning for new band members soon. 1978, stage shows were starting to really grow and expand across the stage… more lights, explosive pots, laser shows are on the horizon. But it was still a much simpler time. Now a live show is a monstrously huge production, with all kinds of trusses and rigging.
bruce is doing that on the mandrake project tour. check out bruce dickinson mandrake project whiskey a go go. 500 person audience, small stage. bruce has said how he is enjoying doing this. except for the phones like a time capsule
there's so little live footage of the original band, maybe this, Paris '70, California Jam and the Don Kirshcner TV special, and that's all I can think of. Such a shame for such an important band.
I know, one of their all time best shows is Asbury Park 1975. They were so on top of their game then, they sounded better than the studio recordings. Sucks so much that there’s no video footage of it.
Hey, Andrew, I remember emailing you a BS vid, I think maybe their first tv appearance,,,and then the powers that be went and removed it😠. They were playing to a backing track, but still cool to see them early on. Edit: it's on y'tube, paranoid, sabbath's channel. Bill plays like he doesnt know the song, missing fills and beats, as if playing to the record just doesn't jive w him lol
Never Say Die! Is tounge in cheeck. Ozzy sounds positive about the band but he had already left the band once and would be fired within in year. Earth shaking. Ozzy goes on to being one of the biggest acts on the planet and Dio would join Sabbath and enjoy a second life.
I saw this tour and they were really pretty bad. Bill appeared to be out of it and actually threw up in a bucket whilst playing! An unknown American band called Van Halen supported them...
Speaking about what was going on at the time - on this tour some new band named Van Halen was booked as the support... and there are many reports that people felt they simply blew BS away at the time.
Both bands were phenomenal and seemingly got along really well . Newcastle City Hall UK was the show I saw , one of the best gigs I've ever witnessed .
You sound like a man that could absolutely enjoy basic rock and roll old school In Yo Face music and I would encourage you to listen one of my all-time favorite rockers Rory Gallagher and I would suggest as a first song Shin kicker and you will understand why Jimi Hendrix said he would never follow him in concert the bar was too high and when Jimmy Page when asked in an interview how it felt to be the greatest guitarist in history said I don't know why don't you ask Rory Gallagher just the name of you anyhow love you comments you're very educational and you definitely Teach Me How to Love music more and more and to explain why I like the music I like
In the mid70's being in jr high, getting into Alice Cooper and Kiss, Sabbath's dark image was scarey to me, and they were for the underground rock scene, or the 'crazy stoner teens'. Then in my late teens, I got into Sabbath, then right off, they broke up. Ozzy's straight off solo deal was much better, the music was updated. The perfect guitarist. And all along Black Sabbath was just a fun rock band- whodathunkit, with heavy aor (album oriented rock music) fm radio playin' Iron Man and Paranoid. There's still lots of Sabbath I haven't heard, and it's always great hearing. And playing their records.🤘🏻
discoish yeah but people like me hated disco and if a band wanted a quick cheer all you had to do was yell dosco sucks and people in the audience would cheer.
Sabbath were in rough form here. Sure, it's fantastic to watch and enjoy, but Ozzy's voice is shot in places and Tony looks bored towards the end of this particular show. Didn't help that Van Halen were the support band and wiped the floor with the headliners.
The Never say Die album was a great disappointment to me. Not heavy metal, just rock. Gone was the former heaviness, the doom, that made Sabbath, Sabbath.
What is wrong with people? There is other music besides black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Its like every other video its one of those two. Ill have to unsubscribe.

Such a great album! Way too overlooked. Thank you!
Swinging The Chains with Bill Ward on vocals from the Never Say Die album are great. He had an amazing voice.
I saw them on this tour at Coventry Theatre with Van Halen supporting, it was an incredible gig.
Never Say Die in my view is a fantastically unique album which I've loved ever since it was released . I also totally dig Technical Ecstasy and all of the preceding albums .
Love watching your reviews 😁 Bill Ward is one of my favourite drummers, not easy to replicate. Watching from Nova Scotia, Canada btw 🤘
My very first time seeing this great band was on this tour, in Liverpool, England. Loved it, still a fan today.
Favorite band Black sabbath
Killing myself to liveeeee
Good reaction I try to watch your content when I have time
Incredible live version. Ozzy sounds amazing!
Thanks for reviewing this video! This is some of the heaviest swing ever! Geezer and Bill absolutely drive this song!
I was at this gig , Hammersmith Odeon , London. Van Halen supported on their debut UK tour !!
This is their final show with Ozzy in 1978 before they broke up. And it is such a killer one. Their rendition of Snowblind from the same show is badass as well, probably their greatest live performance of it.
Final show in the UK. Then there was the Europe + US leg, which concluded in Albuquerque on 11th Dec 1978.
I remember this tour like it was yesterday. Van Halen was just breaking out. Miss concerts like this.

Andrew... Check It's alright... Bill sings, yes Bill sings
great stuff love it.
Back to Sabbath! Ozzy Sabbath is best Sabbath. Great review . I miss the classic reactions.
Right! The only Sabbath in my opinion.
My first time seeing Sabbath on this tour at Portsmouth Guildhall, Van Halen supporting, I think the ticket was £2 🙂
It's always a pleasure to watch your Black Sabbath reactions! Everything from this band was of course always great. As I've said before, notice once again who is standing at center stage with a spotlight on him.
I was at that gig Ozzy was full of cold and he struggled with the vocals. I saw them again a few weeks later and he was amazing
Great live version. Amazing!
The last track on this album has bill ward on lead vocals……. Please listen.
🤯
Forever "colour" Sabbath with smiles and joy of ozzy Osborne
Ozzy standing at the side as Tony is the leader of the band 🤟🏻
Just react to Sabbath bloody sabbath! 🙏🏻
Dang, I thought he’d done that already. Def wouldve done that one!

YUP!
This album gets a lot of hate, but it's my personal favorite from the OG lineup. Drumming- and dynamics-wise, I think you'd really like Junior's Eyes.

Not a chance in hell. Van Halen are a nice pop band. Nothing more
Sabbath crushed Van Halen!

Ozzy doing Janis Joplin bit.
Really hate the way they sound here, version on the album NSD is outstanding.
Cool performance. However, it's difficult to tell whether Ozzy is entertaining the crowd or himself lol. Probably both.
Dirty women live is insane

Van Halen are the David Beckham of music. So overrated. Just a nice little Pop group really
Black Sabbath dominated. Ozzy's voice was great. They could have easily edited the two cracks but didn't bother.

Off you go sonny. But Andrew does do loads of other bands. But let's be fair Zeppelin were simply the best, with peak Sabbath not far behind
