      This was a great video
      I am 3 months in dark blonde in 60s
      Cannot afford Jack Martin do not want damage
      At one time mark should I do highlights with grey toner?
      Should I do lowlights?
      Thx

      @@deborahpaddison6770 yes a highlight and then toned to silver is a great way to transition from blonde to silver. If you have areas that are solid white have your stylist do back to back fold in that area. And you don't need the Jack Martin all over, it's great for some but there are lots of other options less expensive and less damage.

      @@juliethehairapist Thank you for your offer of advice at the moment I am watching all of your videos and trying to decide the best way to go. I have a circle of grey on the top of my head. I had been colouring just the parting ash brown to spread out and disguise the skunk line. But I hate the read tones in the coloured part when my hair is ash brown and has cool tones. I tried using purple conditioner which tones the brassiness down a little. I wonder if I should use Titanium toner instead. I bought some semi permanent electric blue dye but then chickened out of using that as it is pretty "out there" for me.

    Thank you for this video! I have been watching several and I think this is the best. I have been. Coloring, highlighting, low-lighting, even used sun in for over 40 years. My grow out is a silver to translucent shade. My hair is very very fine, and thinning on top, but thicker in the back. Scalp does not tan. So this has been a concern for me. It is time, so maybe my hair and skin tone will match better.
    Thank you again. Now when I go in I will have a better understanding as to her recommendations.

    Thank you for the tips on direct dye. I'm 11 weeks in with black hair. I'm embracing what God is doing and honestly this is the best time to do it because I'm really not seeing anyone. I'm nursing faculty, and our lectures are virtual, but at this point I really stopped caring about any criticism I may receive. My daughter is getting married in October, however. That's my biggest concern-- there will be pictures!! Blending the grey with spray or the direct dyed may really be my best option for that. Thanks for that ideas!

    I LOVE the mix of dark and grey! I've let my hair grow out twice - once in my 50s and once when I became 60. As my skin aged, the grey (I have a aluminum grey) made me look VERY washed out. I'm 63 as of yesterday and want to go back to leaving it gray. I'm trying to figure out ways to brighten my look as the grey grows in. Thank you for this.

    • @juliethehairapist
      @juliethehairapist  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Gobsmacked I completely understand not liking your natural color, after it’s all grown out you can easily still color but use temporary color not permanent. Permanent color causes the line of demarcation, temporary color will wash out and is easier to apply. Another solution is the money piece only, sometimes just brightness around our face is all we need. If you send me pics of your hair I can send you some links for color and pics. Hi Julie!
    Thank you for your channel and giving me the knowledge needed for my transition to silver. I’m 9 months in. I really like all your videos especially the Getting Started talking about our life’s purpose. Thank you for all of it.
    I saw my hairstylist back in July 2021, for silver highlights to transition my hair to it’s natural brown and silver. She wanted to use volume 40 bleach and I know you say 20, so we compromised at 30. She was pretty much not on board every step of the way, unfortunately. She started at the 1-2 inch outgrowth like I asked. When I left I had silver highlights and honestly it was almost too much for me to see that much silver in my hair. A few days later it turned a yellow blond and that’s where it’s been ever since. I started using a purple shampoo a week after my silver highlights and I don’t know if it’s doing anything. It might be helping to keep the blond light in color. I was hoping it would bring some of the blond back to silver or very light blond. That didn’t happen.
    I’m overdue for a haircut, and I’m wondering, do I ask the new stylist to put toner on the existing blond hair? Does she have to bleach it again first? If we do toner or bleach+toner, I’m going to get very light blond, not silver, starting at the line of demarcation, not at my roots. I’m nine months into my transition and have long hair. My natural color is only about 50 percent silver, so the money piece is lighter than my natural color.
    I’ve been meaning to reach out for months. Thank you in advance for your wisdom! I wasn’t sure if I should write to your Gmail, post here or on your Facebook page.

    Hi, thanks for this video, gave me some hope...Ive been searching for ways to embrace my grey as I believe Im already about 70% grey if not more... turning 45 this year... anyhow about a year ago I decided to start colouing with an 28 day wash out hair dye as the permanent dye started to irritare my sculp as well, Im was colouring darkbrown using box dyes🙄. However with the 28 day hair dye my ends in a lot darker than my top hair so almost like a reverse ombre😮 but I did not realize that the " wash out" dye is kind of permanent, I thought that if I stick it out for about a year or 2 I could just leave it and wash it out! O boy seems like I was wrong cause I joined a fb page for going gray and some hairdressers on there said that the 28 day hair dyes is almost the same as the permanent and it still sticks to you hair.... so that Idea just went down the drain and all that time waisted... thus I started searching again and stumble on you video as I was thinking my besr option was either grey blending as they call it or highlights as I know it. So I quess my question is, would it be ok if I do the grey highlights over the darkbrown year long 28 day wash out box dye😢 or should I maybe do like a colour oops or colour correction on it and hope that colour does come out a bit and does not stick? And then do something with it? My natural hair colour is a brown, bit dark but not dark brown. Thanks

    • @juliethehairapist
      @juliethehairapist  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @marischeepers424 First let me explain the difference between a true temporary color vs permanent. Any hair color that has a developer AKA peroxide is permanent. Most colors that are labeled “semi-permanent” are permanent because they use peroxide. Peroxide is what leaves the line of demarcation. Hair color that does not have a developer and is a what you see is what you get color is temporary and will wash off after several washes. Manufacturers many times will label temporary color as semi-permanent.
      Good news, even though you still have artificial color on your hair it’s much lighter than the old color which will make it easy to lighten if/when you highlight. In addition it will be easy to see your natural pattern for your transition highlight.
      If you send me pics of your hair I can give you more specific advice for a transition highlight. Thanks for watching my super amateur videos. juliethehairapist@gmail.com

      Yes a couple things I do so it won't last so long.
      I will put it on wet hair
      Not leave it on very long (5 min)
      Wash with dish soap and baking soda. Make sure to scrub your hair not your scalp and shampoo again after you do this to get all the mixture out.

    Hi Julie, have to say first this is excellent video, I am so happy I find. I have question. I have dyed black hair, and my hair is very thin/fine by genetics, so bleaching is not an option for me, but 90% of my roots are gray. What is best option to transition to gray and not have that crazy demarcation line? I was thinking just putting lots of silver/gray tiny highlights just on the top of my head, where I part my hair, and maybe around my face.
    I appreciate your time Julie. Thank you so so much. ❤️

      @Meri S I can absolutely help you and have an easy solution. I would use temporary color at the new growth only and only where you can see the line of demarcation. Yes you still have to color but it will completely wash off so as it grows out you can just color when it bugs you. Temporary color is easier to apply and you can even use it on your dry styled hair to just camouflage what can be seen. If you send me pics of your hair I can give you better advice juliethehairapist@gmail.com ❤

    • @juliethehairapist

      Yes/No are you wanting to use it on your white hair and you don't have any artificial hair color? If yes, then Artic Fox will show on the white hair if using the bright colors, it will be bright at first and then continue to wash off. The reason for the directions call for bleached hair is because there is no developer for direct dyes they're like food coloring so they will not show on any shade of brown that's why you would need the bleach to lighten the hair not necessarily need bleach. That being said Artic Fox comes with a small package of bleach and developer don't use that just use the color.

    • @juliethehairapist
      @juliethehairapist  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I completely understand my videos are super amateur! The answer is both, if you’re applying it to your bleached blonde hair I recommend putting it on wet hair the first time. If the bleach has gotten your hair too porous, the color will appear a little purple. If that happens one shampoo will take that out. If you’re applying it to your bleached hair, but it’s no longer fresh bleach and not too porous, then I recommend applying to dry hair, so the silver will last longer. If you’re using the fun colors, you can apply to wet, so it washes off quicker or to dry for it to last longer. Please feel free to reach out to me for any help along the way. Love this question, I can absolutely promise your natural will look great. The problem is the transition because as humans we're naturally visual and only see the two tones fighting each other and can't see the outcome. Also if after you've achieved your natural color and it isn't as bright as you would like, I would do the money piece and still tone to silver. It will look natural and you would only need to do it maybe twice a year.

      Be a colorist but like 1st grade mixing water colors. To make brownyou need, 3 parts yellow + 2 parts red + 1 blue = brown. I would add some orange because that's what will lighten the black and easier than mixing yellow and red. You can use any brand and mix a little black with a pinch of orange and then paint on a white paper towel, that is your color. Still too dark add a little more orange, too light add more black. But again paint to see the color you never have to guess on the color. Remember that you are going on your natural (white hair) so the color will be a highlight of the color.

    • @juliethehairapist
      @juliethehairapist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We all need the same color no matter what we are coming out of. As long as you attempt to match what is coming in, a highlight toned to silver will instantly blend your transition. When I transitioned I only put a highlight in the front even though all of my hair was a warm brown. Those streaks in the front matched what was coming in so it was all I needed. You will need a solid highlight off the part. That means you will have back to back slices with no hair dropped out in between the foils to create a solid lightness off the part. They have to get the hair to light yellow and then tone to silver. The reason for using the foil and not bleaching your whole head is, that's how we can insure getting your hair light enough, the foil insulates the hair and assists in the lifting. If you want to send me pics of your hair through my Facebook page or email juliethehairapist@gmail.com I can give you better advice. ❤

      @@juliad2564 1st your swimming, Make sure you get your hair wet with good water before you enter the pool. Our hair is like a sponge if it's dry it's going to absorb a lot of chlorine but if it's already full of water it can't absorb much chlorine. When you condition your hair make sure you squeeze all the water out of your hair just like a sponge before you apply the conditioner to your ends. The direct dyes that I use are Pravana, Pulp Riot and Matrix. Direct dyes are all those wild colors that you see the young kids wear, blue, red, yellow, etc. and any brand will work . Some brands have more color selection than others is really the major difference.

I would recommend you flat iron the hair you want to lighten first. I'm going to be filming my clients highlight in two weeks she is black and I will give you more tips on her service. Another great thing about your hair type is it lightens easier and faster than straight hair. Please feel free to contact me for any help, I have been doing "black" hair for 25 years. I love my curly girls!♥️

      @@farishaf349 You're going to love your natural color I promise. If the line of demarcation starts to bother you either jabber your stylist put a highlight in the front especially where you have any streaks and tone it to a silver color. You can also do this yourself but one highlight is all you need and you don't ever need another highlight.

    • @juliethehairapist
      @juliethehairapist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can absolutely help, first it doesn't matter what color your hair is if you have frizzy hair you must use a round or flat iron for your hair to look good. 2nd if you send me pics of your hair I can give you advice for you or a stylist to camouflage your line of demarcation.

    Is there any way to use a rinse to combat the red in my dark brown dyed hair?I’m at the five month mark and the old dye is turning very red but I’m afraid to put anything else on my hair that could be permanent and take me back to the beginning. Thank you

    • @juliethehairapist
      @juliethehairapist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can put a level 6 Ash/blue direct dye. If you can't get a direct dye you can use permanent color but water down the developer to make 3 volume. Example if you have 20 vol use a splash of 20 to 1 oz of water. Apply to previously colored hair only.

    • @juliethehairapist

      @@stephanief4630 hair color has a number system 1 is black 10 platinum blonde. You need 6 ash I found a color at (www.sallybeauty.com/hair/hair-color/permanent-hair-color/permanent-creme-hair-color/ION87.html) Sallys if you don't have access to that any brand of color as long as it says 6 ash will be fine. Purchase 10 volume Peroxide if they have it, if not get 20 volume and a color brush. Mix equal parts color to peroxide, (1 oz Color to 1 oz of Peroxide). Using 1/4 inch partings apply from the line of demarcation to the ends but leave the color off the last 2 to 3 inches (do not put on your naturally colored hair). After you have applied to all of your hair but not the ends, then apply to the ends. The ends of the hair are more porous and will take the color darker if you put the color on right away. Process for 15 min and wash and condition.
      Dilute Peroxide with water to make 3 Volume peroxide. It's not critical on the measuring. Splash of peroxide and the rest water to make the 1 oz of peroxide.
      Also if you don't have red in the back or underneath you don't have to put the color there either, just where you need it. And you still have another oz of color left so if you need more or missed a spot just mix up more. But you can mix less as long as it's equal parts.
