Hi! I'm just busy with life and currently have no plans to make more videos. I just made a few, not really expecting them to get much attention to be honest!
@@theliopleurodon I understand, it's good to know that you're still alive anyway hahaha, have a good time, hope one day I can see more of you, blessings!
Samsung phones have a battery saving mode. If you set it to the maximum saving mode you get a couple of days of battery life and basically reduce the smartphone to a dumb phone. (cuts out any type of multi tasking of apps).
Your perspective is so refreshing - thank you for sharing! I was born in 1994, so while I’m not “old”, I grew up at a time when the tech was simpler, and I miss it. Two of my favorite phones were the Motorola V3 & V8. Unfortunately, in my life, I need to have a smartphone, and I still do enjoy them very much, but I think I’d feel a lot more zen and a lot less distracted without one. I need to leave the city, lol. I notice how much it changed my level of focus, it’s pretty scary sometimes.
Motorola v3, man those where the times to be alive. Back in highschool I could have had swapped a kidney for one of those. Nowadays, with smartphones, nobody pays attention to anything. Just horrible. The SMS messaging era was the golden era in communications, and we didn't know it at the time. Almost nobody can be focus for more than 5 minutes nowadays.
After trying multiple options this is one of the best ideas to reduce the screen time and phone addiction, which is the main point of wanting a dumb phone. This option allows you to actually have useful apps like banking, google maps, Uber, ... while also removing the bad apps that you wanted to avoid in the first place. Also for most people this is the cheaper option because you dont need to buy a new phone. I have a dumb phone (old blackberry) that I like to use when I want to be really disconnected, but for daily use in the real world its better to have a smartphone with only useful apps.
its really such a shame that a smartphone is required in society today. However there's still options for those who want a smartphone but want to reduce screen time - such as the Jelly 2e which is a phone that has a display screen of 3 inches which means you can have all your apps on there but scrolling and using it can be a little tricky - which encourages you to use it less. I've considered getting one when I have a little bit more money to spend

I finally had to get a new phone after security updates stopped being made for my previous one. I couldn't bring myself to go full dumbphone because there weren't good enough options available. I am now using an Android alternative operating system (GrapheneOS) that required deliberate app installation, with only basic functions preloaded (camera, calculator, internet explorer). Removing apps (ironically, the youtube app in particular), using grayscale, and turning off tap-to-wake has been helpful on my journey to become less addicted to my phone. I hope your solution works for you.
Hey Lio, just letting you know I'd definitely enjoy more content about your thoughts on the problems you have with smart phones, what makes a good dumb phone, and even society in general! I enjoy the way you speak and I think a lot of people like myself agree with you on a lot of things. Thanks!!
Great to see there are other people out there that think like this! I had a Nokia 108 for almost a year and it was great but i also really missed Spotify, Maps, Whatsapp and a decent camera. So after it broke (i thought they couldn't ;) I bought a normal smartphone and only got the apps i really needed but never got back to social media since 2018. I'm trying to get off smartphones entirely, using my computer as a replacement for most of the things, yet it's still hard. The past year has taught me how much strength is needed to beat an addiction, and made me appreciate the people who managed to do exactly that... This (Julian)Christmas,I will be praying for all who fight the same battle I do
Just as a word of encouragement for others, I want to say that our family has never used or had any smartphones. We don't use any wireless device at all and live just fine without them. We are one of the 3% left in our country who didn't fall into it all. That's sad to think about, for society. Hope you are well :)
So are you still sticking with this dumbed down smartphone? Or have you made it smart again? I usually find myself un-dumbing my phone after some time. So dumbphone is my only option.
A dumbphone alternative you may enjoy is getting a Google Pixel and installing GrapheneOS on it. It's a very barebones OS focused on privacy, the cost of its privacy means that out of the box it comes with nothing but calling, texts and typical phone features. That is because Google has been completely stripped out of the OS. You can still install it and I have done so on another phone profile which makes my main phone profile behave like a dumb phone
Hi, I have been looking into buying a dumbphone and its soooo annoying that the better looking ones aren't available in the uk. Like you say on another of your videos smartphones are very addictive, I want to wean myself off them. I hope the dumbing down of your old smartphone works for you. Thanks for making informative videos on the subject and I have subbed to hopefully help you get to 1k subscribers, good luck.
Would have been useful if you'd told us how to do this (in particular removing certain apps that you can't simply uninstall), or even what phone this is
What is good for dumbing down your smartphone is installing a custom root like lineage os, it doesnt comes with google apps by default (you can add during installation) and you can install apps via apk. It does adds performance bc the lightweigh os and has a very strong community
Hi, I’ve enjoyed watching your videos and learning about dumb phones. Have you tried taking a two phone approach? I am going to use a Light Phone 2 as a daily and a Jelly 2(Always on grayscale) for the times I am out doing things. I believe it’s going to help with finding a balance with a smartphone and a dumb phone.
last year i didnt have any sm, nor youtube, and i put screen time limits on my phone so that i dont stay too long on it. the thing is i ignored them and kept watching tons of TH-cam videos on safari! would love to use a dumbphone but i need to keep social media for school this year, i really don’t know what to do
Instead of making my phone dumb, I tried instead using behavioral tactics in order to not get sucked too much into it. First thing is that I don't take it to the streets when I go out (good to avoid robbery as well). Another thing is to disable notifications from apps like WhatsApp and leave the thing aside in a corner of my room. The only thing that hooks me into attention now is the TH-cam, but then TH-cam is entertainment, I learn a lot of stuff from it and so forth. I would really like to be able to customize my feed in TH-cam a little bit more, there are lots of stuff that isn't informational that appears there like people throwing glass bottles from the stairs and such, but other than that, I think it worked well. I'm kind of addicted to video games as well, but thinking it through, it's still better to be addicted to games than drugs, alcohol and the like. So, I'm cool.
I have been slowly moving away from a lot of social apps and such (aside from Discord for friends), but I understand the troubles of trying to truly remove yourself from all of it. Currently I've been using an iPhone SE that hasn't been updated since I got it in 2017 haha. I personally yearn again for the time with my old feature phone, an LG Octane. It certainly wasn't a device to constantly have time spent on, but it still had things like maps, web browsing, social media, and there was even an app for TH-cam. I think having the functionality is fine when needed, but we should just make it more of a hassle to use it (small screen, clicking keys... also no tiktok)
There is some great third-party android launchers that aim to reduce the amount of apps you have, all the way down to looking as visually unappealing as possible to help keep your usage lower.
I discovered your channel and immediately a peace came over my body I really like your videos, especially the ones where you read the Bible, I hope you post more❤
Consider bookmarking the Pinephone from Pine64 for the future. My understanding is it's a privacy focused, dumbed down "smart" phone that is reasonably affordable and extensible. Cheers
GrapheneOS is easily available only on pixel phones tho.. But it will give you perfect privacy, simplicity and control of every app permission, also battery life is excellent
My bank is forcing me now to use an app for 2FA. But I'm not giving in buying a smartphone and going to use the Windows Subsystem for Android on Windows 11 (WSA) with the Aurora Store. App is already installed but now I need to buy a physical webcam to scan the QR code because the WSA doesn't support virtual webcams yet.
Due to a veriety of reasons, I am not addicted to my phone in any way. I do not use social media at all, except for youtube (which arguably is a social medium as welll, esp with shorts)
Thanks for the video! I’m also at the stage where I’m simply using my smartphone with as few apps as possible, but still having safari on my phone and all those other Features it’s so hard to put it down. Maybe I’ll try deleting the browser as well but I think I’m gonna need it for university and just basic life haha. Did it work out for you or do you use google again?

Despite there being probably 30-35 apps on there, it is amazingly simplified compared to most people's phones, and doesn't include most of the worst offenders (instagram, Tik Tok, etc.). I dumbed down my phone recently, still keeping 60 or so apps but taking everything except call/messages/settings off my home screen, and putting a black and white color filter on there. However, it failed in keeping me in line, I think a good detox will involve some 50-100 dollar flip phone somewhere.

Good video! Personally I have to work with social networks and I don't know what to do, because in my spare time I spend a lot of time on the phone. I have thought about having 2 phones, and the one with the social networks turn it off when I finish work, I don't know. Any ideas? 🤔
Yes, I would probably suggest using two phones if you really need one for work. I'd have a phone with only the tools you need for work and nothing else, and then when you're done turn it off completely and put it in a drawer where you can't see it. If you don't like how much you are on your phone you can either get a dumbphone which prevents you from using smart apps at all, you can get a smaller phone, such as the Jelly 2e which is designed to help people stop wanting to reach for it, or you can get a regular sized smartphone and dumb it down like I have. The other option is to use a dumbphone for work, but I'm not sure how well that would work. Have you looked into the Cat s22?
@theliopleurodon I didn't know about the Cat s22, it looks quite interesting. It's just not available in my country 😓 I think I'll have to do the two phones, I liked the idea of keeping it in a drawer away from me, where I can't see it. Thank you, continue with the videos 🙌

Just watched your dumb phone video, it's clear the phone you want is obviously the Qin F21 pro. Suprised no one has mentioned. Essentially a dumb phone form factor with smart phone features. The reason you want it is because it has smartphone apps available when you need them but has a small display and a keypad like a dumbphone. Due to the small display size it essentially discourages you from using the touchscreen as its just inconvenient due to the size but it is still there for when you do need it. You also have options of play store or no store. You can also install and uninstall apps that come with the phone. It really is the best of both worlds.
That's really a great setup and I have taken a lot of inspiration from this setup. But having a Facebook account saves you a lot of time creating accounts on websites or other apps and you don't have to remember any other logins if you're signing through Facebook. I don't have Spotify as well, instead, I use a Telegram bot to download mp3 (I repeatedly listen to the same music, and the Spotify free version really got so annoying). I own a Samsung as well, and I will consider changing the font to yours. I think you'll have to change your smartphone soon. If you want to stick with Android, do some research and try NOTHING phone. It's a brand which is aimed at helping you stay less distracted by your phone.
@@theliopleurodon omg i didnt expect a reply, im assuming the answer is no given the whole dumbphone thing but are u on anything other than youtube? just curious!! :0
What's the reason for having a dumbphone if you can just uninstall all the unnecessary apps from your regular phone, like in the video. The one downside is that you can easily install everything back, but living without an access to internet everywhere is hard. What's funny I found you videos by mindlessly scrolling reddit on my phone 😂

It's just not available in my country 😓
I think I'll have to do the two phones, I liked the idea of keeping it in a drawer away from me, where I can't see it. Thank you, continue with the videos 🙌
Get a blackberry or android flip phone with app store bro
Looking at a dumbphone on my smartphone !! Doesn't bear thinking about 📱👀😂
It's not too dissimilar to mine. I have a samsung galaxy from two years ago. It's been great. I couldn't manage without google ,though. With all the studying I do.
Thank you for the video.

Psalm 46:10 is one of my favourite Bible verses of all time!

Ditto.
I adore the psalms.
That particular verse mirrors what God said to Moses : "I am that I am."
Blessings 🙌
If I may , I'd like to recommend a sonnet for you. Sonnet 14 , the holy sonnets , John Donne , batter my heart , three-personed god in one. It's breathtaking
@@hermesnoelthefourthway I've never read it before but I'll definitely have a read of it! Thank you for the reccomendation!

Is it a Dumb phone its android fully functional
Lol that’s sort of what i did. Great job haha
You should try CAT S22 Flip phone. Trust me it's good.😌
I'd love to! I wish it was easier to get a hold of in the UK
@@theliopleurodon Really? It's much cheaper here in India. But it's carrier unlocked and shipped from US. It's 100 pounds UK (10000 INR)

Hi there Lio, do you have an email from wich i could contact with you? Its for a DumbPhone related topic, btw, i wish u a great weekend!!
Hi lovely, you can message me at leahscott2003@gmail.com
What's the reason for having a dumbphone if you can just uninstall all the unnecessary apps from your regular phone, like in the video. The one downside is that you can easily install everything back, but living without an access to internet everywhere is hard. What's funny I found you videos by mindlessly scrolling reddit on my phone 😂
Atlest use a iPhone 5s 😭😭😭😭

Because you are religious and have a good relationship with God, I advise you , it is very important for you to read the Qur’an and know the extent of Christianity’s connection to Islam, Jesus, and the Qur’an. Love you from Irak❤️
hey, do you have discord or a server I could reach to you on? Im struggling to have a hard life reset as I go on the path of self improvement and would like to hear more of your experience without a smartphone
