      As a mature student there was a huge drop out rate. I went to lectures at night after work on site for 4 years and didn't have a holiday and spent my weekends in the law library. First year I studied so hard and just passed. Second year was better and by 3 and 4 years I was flying and had the presentation skills that were required. I think about 400 mature students were there for the first year. Graduating there were about 70. Almost everyone who passed did not have families to look after. It's kind of selfish as you have to throw yourself into it. People with kids it would be very difficult

      @@TimeServedPodcast Absolutely. Seriously this is what people getting out need to hear. Thankfully I've never done time but a few family members and friends came out and had no hope, drive or want to improve their situation. Other family who knew business, had a skill or trade have came out from a 7-10 bid and immediately started back in vehicle sales, detailing and other work. They're sober and went from weekly PO visits not allowed to leave the county to being able to travel, grow their business, even getting support from their PO who basically told him. "Give me a reason to send you back" to "Great work actually turning your life around, keep doing the right thing and you'll be off paper in no time.
      Seriously inspiring story. I wish some people I know could get out of the cycle of scams, hustles and nonsense just supporting habits. One guy I hadn't seen in 15 years, strung out on subs, and was proud he didn't get caught siphoning gas from work trucks because he was smart enough to use camera blind spots. Followed by he lost his Job and apartment because of it. So now no job, no fixed address and stopped seeing his PO. I said to him, "bro you are out and doing work that pays well. You fucked up over some gas? Was it worth it? You know you're going back at least 90 days unless you get booked on new charges. Then you are back in for years. You have kids and you are smart enough to do something" He made some joke about the time won't be that long and he'll be good. Yet first thing he shows me after that conversation is where he got stabbed 2 different times over debts. Others in and out in dumb shit like thefts, burglary and other things. Sadly I've had to separate myself from them and where they are at. I need to protect my own sobriety and freedom from reckless people. 17 years, I'm not risking it for people who aren't ready to work on their own situations

    1:02:00 I lived in the Villetta apartment complex right next to that place when I first moved to the city after college in I think 2014. There were 2 shootings and a stabbing on the apartment grounds before the lease was up. One night I heard a cop on the loud speaker of his car yelling, "Come down the stairs with your hands up slowly!" The next day I walked to check the mail qnd there was police tape and a cruiser out there with no officer in it. And at least a 20 foot long very wide bloodstain, like someone had been shot or stabbed and someone else dragged them under the armpits. I went to the office and asked what happened and the staff acted like they had no idea what I was talking about.

    Great episode! Michael must be an incredible salesman. I say this because when he was talking about his business he said he had about 400 of these TV's his company has installed at businesses for free in exchange for running ads in the TV's. I definitely see the upside for the business getting the TV, but for the companies advertising, not so much. Your average Gym, restaurant, bar, may get 30 views per hour at say 14 hours per day = 420 views per day. You can run city specific/zip code specific ad's on Google/YT for 1,000 views for $10 or less. I'm not at all questioning him, just wondering how he makes it work, financially -; especially after paying the sales staff a huge cut?

    • @TimeServedPodcast
      @TimeServedPodcast 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So we are a volume based business, our average sale is $400 and we close about 20-30 sales every single day. For a local roofer $400 for an ad is pretty affordable so that is how we mainly make our money by selling to multiple new clients every day. We have close to 9000 clients nationwide. I appreciate your comment though you were definitely paying attention lol

    I love these killer come back stories - can’t believe there’s actually a love story in there too. His wife is incredible woman - just like that the other guy who came out with a 100k in his account and his wife moved everywhere with him until he got release. These guy have so much knowledge and wisdom, they should write books despite their other ventures. Matt, set up a book publishing agency. You love literature, some
    Of these guys have much to write about. You have an audience you’ll be launching these guys. Just a thought

      Cool, not to worried about your opinion. My kid is a genius and regardless of what she chooses to do she will be more successful than me, considering I just sold my company for slightly north of 7 figures I am sure she will be fine.

    2:28:00 completely agree with the wife helping keep you accountable. I did almost 3 years all together my second trip was married when I went in (all drugs and dwi’s) been sober since I got out and I credit my wife with that 100% for the first couple years it was tough because I’d never existed on the street sober and I’d tell her I’m just gonna have a couple and she wouldn’t stand for it. But she was right I’d probably be in prison now for DWI if I had just had a couple on that day. I’m definitely blessed, she came and saw me once a month kept money on my books, even paid the motorcycle payment. When I got out she said never again. I’ll leave next time and I knew she meant it. Not worth it!!

    Okay so as a salesman in a previous life i feel confident that there is no way that dude was making exponentially more than every other person ever without doing something underhanded lol. I am totally blown away they didn't catch him, or anyone else for that matter, doing anything that got the entire place shut down lol. Also.... he made 180k and went home without any significant savings? My wife would be fired. 😅
